Okay, so here's a nice topic of discussion...

Do you support a lifting of the Cuban Trade Embargo? Offer your ideas and fully back them.

Personally, I fully support the lifting of the embargo. it is doing nothing other then destroy the economy of Cuba. It is an old throwback to the Cold war and it's time that we leave that behind. By lifting the trade embargo with Cuba, not only will the United States open themselves to more potential goods, but they will be making a humanitarian gesture as well.

the trade embargo is bullshit. Why is it that the USA feels like it has ANY RIGHT WHATSOEVER to change the way some countries are run. They don't. Period. I just read in time magazine that there is some big 'plan' for an occupation of iraq followed by reforming the middle east (think hitler!). It's crap all of it and bush should just die.

jibs obviously can't make the distinction between the words genocide and reform

the embargo is a throwback to the cold war, but also when other countries had some manufacturing business in cuba. Really cuba has shit to export to the US and lifting it isn't gonna help much.

Trade Embargo... WITH CUBA

By dropping this throwback to the Cold War, we can import Cuban products such as sugar, and yes, cigars into a massive market. Thus helping the economy of that nation. Giving them a huge boost. This will benefit them as well as give the US a wider option of trade.

Also, it will show some compassion and humanitarinism and maybe promote good vibes around the world and promote us as actually HAVING good intentions in the world. Right now, the embargo is just a stubborn throwback that is doing no good in the modern world.

I agree with Steve. It will not do too much for our country, but it could sure help out Cuba. There is no real need for the embargo and lifting it would stimlute the Cuban economy. Anyway, Castro is old and will be dead soon anyway, so there is no need for the Usa to hold a grudge.

Ya, the Cuban literacy rate is absolutely steller. Give them a little more economic opportunity,a nd they can easily become a developed nation. But without US support, there is no chance in them becoming a developed nation because the way the world economy is shaped by US goals and policies.

sometimes american foreign policy reminds me of those missionaries that go deep into the rainforest or wherever to teach the bible to natives. It's an attempt to make everyone the same, push personal views on other people and kill the variety in culture and politics in the world.

anyways, i can't seem to put my point on this whole thing into words.
