Toy Cameras

Like the Holga 120 or Lomo LCA and such. Does anyone use them?

I just got one, so if you have one post what you like/dislike and maybe some of the shots?

I have a holga. I like how fun they are, and how you feel as though you're being brought back to the roots of photography.

I dislike, however, how people think that a shitty photograph that happens to be shot on film is transformed into an amazing one. I don't think holga's are often (if capable at all) used to create professional photos.

dislikes: I don't even own the camera yet and I'm already perceived as a hipster.

I am sorry I can't hear your insult over my phonograph playing something you have never heard of on MTV while I drink some starbucks drink in my sister's jeans and v-neck thick knit sweater. Kindly fuck off

Only a hipster would take what I said and turn it into something about them. You sure know a whole lot about the hipster lifestyle bud..

Jane Goodall lived among the chimpanzees for over two decades observing their behaviors. Last time I checked she wasn't a chimpanzee...

I don't want this thread ruined wiht my accused hipsterdom, just let me know about the pros and cons of this camera and type of photography. You don't have to participate or even like it, just let me decided whether I do or not

So you're saying that you willingly surrounded yourself with hipsters in light of studying them? I don't get your analogies..

Once again, I never accused you of being a hipster, I wouldn't care less if you were. Hell I like hipsters more than I do most other social cliches.

I don't use a Holga because I think they are dumb. If I didn't want to be able to control my camera I would just throw that shit on auto, I wouldn't spend $50+ on a 'toy' camera. I did have a holga however, got one roll of 35mm through, and about 6 frames of MF through then realized how much time I was wasting on that garbage and picked back up a real camera.

Yeah, to be honest I wasn't real sure where I was going with that analogy either.

Thank you. That post was actually helpful (not sarcastic, actually).

sometimes people will shoot a couple rolls through to get that random, "edgy" or "cool" film look for advertising, i suppose you could call that professional work as it's commercial haha.

But yea, you can't control anything really. I have enjoyed sending rolls through toy cameras because it's fun, but I don't mess with holgas. I like finding random toy cameras at thrift shops, they cost less and I don't care if I break them.

I shoot with a Holga all the time, it's a nice contrast to the 4x5 I usually use.

I also have a plastic 6x12 made by Holga.

If you think you're too rad to use a certain camera and resort to stereotyping it, then...well that's a bummer, shitty cameras are pretty fun to shoot with.

this is hilarious coming from the guy with a whole album of hipstamatic photos on his flickr.

Ha yeah I should probably get those off there, I love hipstamatic though, plus they send me free shit so I love em even more.
