Touring on the SFB?

I’m moving to BC this summer and im currently going through the process of putting together a new touring setup.

Thoughts on using a Sir Francis Bacon with a shift as my 1 ski for everything outside the park. I’m going to be doing lots of touring in school and want something fun and playful on the way down.

Sounds great. I'd consider the vision too if you want something little lighter. And the shift is great in my opinion

I'd say yea, I think most all mountain/pow skis turn out to be okay for touring

thats coming from me though, I tour on Surface Balances

Bacon if your throwing a ton of tricks and landing switch else I think the vision 108 is a slightly better option since it’ll be a bit lighter on the skin track and has a mount set back a lil bit more. But either would be a killer setup. You’ll def have way more fun than people on 1300 gram flat tailed skis. What boots you have will impact your ability to walk uphill way more than 200grams on a ski or whatever probably.

Im riding a pair of full tilt ascendants, i enjoy riding switch when i can and also like to think i have a surfy eric pollard inspired skiing style. The bacons seem like the perfect option for that kind of skiing. The outlines also seem like a good ski but obviously they’re a bit wider and heavier. I really like the idea of having convex tips and tails for easier turn initiation. Also considering the JJ UL for that reason

I have both the SFB and the JJ UL and believe it or not the SFB is softer flexing to me. That said I love my JJUL for touring in that deeper snow and had no problems holding an edge carving on a groomer but the bacon does well too and being a little narrower may make it a better all around ski. I also use the Vision108 and ski switch without an issue. it has a slightly raised tail so its not a full twin but can handle enough switch skiing. I like the stiffness of the v108 for railing groomers and it holds well in the woods and steps. For something this light it shouldnt be this good at everything but it is. I'd highly consider the Vision 108 if you can. Lightweight, versatile and strong ?‍

Very helpful thank you. I’m definitely taking the vision 108 into consideration. Do you think the JJ is a little wide for an all around one ski?

No problem. Yes i think the JJ would be too wide at 116 as a daily. I ski the east coast so Im not sure what regular conditions you will see. I have been skiing at whistler on my Bentchetler 100s during a dry period and was perfectly happy. I've also been there on my mordecai and while it skis well up top, the groomers below late in the day were not fun. I'd stick with under 110mm at the waist for a daily and then get something 116-120 for the deep days.
