Touring. Is it worrh it?

getting out and getting exercise, not paying for lift tickets, no lift lines, skiing fresh lines, and enjoying nature. definitely not worth it.

I would maybe disagree with you on the Barons point. I have a buddy who just bought them, weighs about 170 pounds, only about 5'10" and doesn't ski particularly aggressively and he snapped the heel piece right off the track his second day using them, got them repaired and then while out touring a week later halfway through the day the mechanism that switches the binding from walk to downhill mode snapped on him. Had to keep hiking for half the day with one of his skis in downhill mode. Maybe the two sets he got were just bad ones but I would never recommend Barons to anyone

My brother has barrons on ep pros and does a lot of touring in Utah. He seems to be pretty happy with the setup.

60 touring days or resort days? I have seen a lot of Duke/Baron issues, and they are all seem to be with people that actually tour in them and don't just have a touring binding on a resort ski.

You put skins on your skis, so you can slide forward but won't slide back down. You got some touring bindings which work like a telemark binding, it's way easier to walk. Then you go away from all the resorts, and hike up where you want. You need (just like on a pow day in the resorts) equipment like beeper and stuff.

To OP it's definitely worth it. You got a better feeling going down and there aren't idiots everywhere. You can just enjoy nature and good powder.

@Cheg and @TimRiley,

so it is safe to sya, since I live on East Coast this isn't something I will ever experience?

I'm in grad school right now about to graduate in May. All I want to do is get a job out west (preferably Denver) and plant some roots and experience real fucking skiing,

Sorry for the rant it was Valentines day and I just banged some slut without a boyfriend and low self esteem and I am railed on percs and coke.

Well, you can do it everywhere if you have the equipment. You can do it in resorts or on some random hills. I just like it more in the mountains where there aren't lifts everywhere. But try it out, it's good workout and if you have a better feeling on the descent. But you can think for yourself it's more fun with untracked powder everywhere.

Sorry for my gaperness and naivete, but do you use Telemark skies? I should probably just google/wikipedia this so I don't get flamed, but this sounds like something for people that want to get a great workout, keep themselves in shape, etc. and ski.

I just recently got into hiking mountains up to 8000 feet. It kinda sounds like you are mixing both worlds, hiking/mountain climbing and than skiing?

I should pass out -- I gotta get up in 4 hours to drive to the slopes but I'm gonna PM you this weekend Chef.

No you use (just as for telemarking) an other binding. You get a touring binding so you can ride normally, but have the walking function uphill. It's pretty similar to hiking mountains, but a little bit more exhausting. But I like to do it more because you can still ride down. And people don't do it for workout, it's just more satisfying
