Touching the Void

As most of you probably know (or maybe don't?), the classic Simpson novel 'Touching the Void' has been made into a movie.

I recently had the privilege of seeing the film, and it's truly amazing. This is the one climbing film that is right on the money. I'd recommend checking it out.

On a related note, has anyone read any of Simpson's other books? He's a great author, one of my favorite, and his books give an incredibly accurate representation of climbing and the climbing life.

Check it out!

oh god, its really fuckin good. it really gets good when he starts losin his mind and hallucinating. even Job would would call this one a struggle.

'Le Mat snake village - (Hanoi) - is home to a slew of snake-meat restaruants which play to the tourist market with elaborate theatrics, including killing the snake in front of you. It's then served up in every possible form, from soup to snake-belly shavings. The guest of honour gets to eat the still pumping heart - beware, it's alleged to have amphetamine properties.' - The Rough Guide to Vietnam. First world countries are for pussies.

touching the void was a really good movie, wasnt it called into the void or something? I thougt they changed the names of the movie, so that it was simmalair to the book but not the same. i duno, but bottom line it was a good movie.

huck something

They kept the same name. The movie was so realistic- the footage of Joe stumbling through the glacial moraine made me feel like I was right there with him. Cool shit.

Has anyone read any of his other books?

Wasn't this film out a long time ago? I saw it on DVD about 3 months ago. Anyway, really good. Go and see it if you havn't - it's not really about the climbing at all.

ive seen the dvd and its good. The extra features are better than the film. The actual climbers go back to the place where it all happened and they both have such different felling towards the place. i cant explain but you should watch it anyway.
