Anybody torn it? I did yesterday and now I got a big splint on. What can I expect?

Here's a picture for the curious folk.

I gota go to the Ortho surgeon next week and the ER people said I'd probly need minor surgery cause they could bend my thumb in some crazy ways. I think its cool though, they bent it backwards easily.

ouch, sorry man, yea, youll still be able to at least ride i think, my break on my arm was really bad, it was all swolen and on the x-ray it was like, the part where it broke, it was all like, twisted and stuff because i was doing a spin in the air as fast as i can, didnt clear the table, went corked and landed on my arm...

oh damn! I think I did that to mine, at least a partial tear. my thumb is like totally loose and i can make it do all sorts of gross things, i keep reinjuring it too. Today i think i tore the tendon that goes over the second knuckle, because I can hardly bend it, it's not painful, but i can't bend it. so it's like pinched or torn, i dunno. I decided fuck it and kept skiing haha

My left thumb is totally incapable of doing anything (well, it can move), it's foiled by the simplest of tasks, such as turning taps.

It hurt damaging it on snow, getting it caught in a dry slope was worse though.

welcome to the world of skiers thumb...torn the ligaments in both hands. Its not too bad once the pain stops. Tape up your thumbs while skiing for the first while to prevent it from getting all stretched out over and over. Oh...and expect garunteed early athritis...I am starting to feel it already

I had UCL surgery two years ago…3-days after I tore it, straight forward procedure, about 2-hours long, easy recovery, had to play lots of x-box to get back my thumb strength, was skiing about 2-weeks later.

It happened so easily when I fell on it, I thought I sprained my thumb, and when I went to take off my goggles, my thumb bent back like it was no longer attached, when I went to pick up a beer and could not hold it, that’s when I really knew something was fucked

i have a question. i hurt my thumb like 4 weeks ago skiing and i thought that it was just sprained real bad but when i move my thumb sideways like the picture shows it makes a noise and it hurts. is that what happens to you too?

^^ If you tore it completly it would not "pop" around...it would feel completly disconnected, with no pain and little swelling....you probably have a small strain (or it sprain) of the thumb...give it some time

i tore mine, the upper part though ripped off the bone and brought some bone with it, i had to get a cast. how lame is that?

Ya, that is lame. I have a splint on now, goes from just below my elbow to my hand, just like a normal broken wrist one, cept my thumbs solid too.

i did that skiing, two years ago. but i also broke it really badly, so i had to get surgery on it. i was in a cast for a month or so, it sucked. did it on the day the mountain closed.

i tore mine less than 2 weeks ago, i gotta wear a splint for 4 weeks, i still ski but i can't hold a pole so i justy use one. my hand was swollen for a week and its still bruised. it's gay but whatever at least it's not my knee.

same thing just happened to me a couple days ago... i am seeing another doctor on friday to tell if i need surgery... sucks...
