They should be a bit taller than you since they’re so intensely rockered. You could also play it safe at 171. I’m 5’10 and rock 183. They’re taller than me but ski like a perfect fit. It’s a jib/rail ski, not a stiff all mountain thing by any means.

There's been other similar threads on this topic but anyway:

With longer vs shorter skis there's a tradeoff - longer skis are more stable and look better imo while shorter skis have less swing weight and are more maneuverable. The important thing to consider is that vishnus are generally very light, especially the wets. They also have less effective edge which makes them feel shorter than they are. With all that in mind, you should definitely size up relative to whatever skis you were riding before. Even if they feel weird at first, just go skiing and try not to be too conscious of the differences. In no time they'll feel great, even if the length takes some getting used to at first.

nah you should get 183s

if you're 5'5 the 171 are gonna be taller then you already don't listen to these clown 171 is fine i feel that over sizing up vishnus makes them lose the superpowers!

Go for 171 if you arent sure you want a super long ski. 12 cm over your head for a park ski is crazy, especially when you are still not insanely experienced. Go for 171, its 6cm over your head. Still long, but not that long so it drags on switch ups and spins.

respectfully, 177s would be only 7-10 cm taller than OP is. I agree that 171 would be fine, and it's all personal preference. I'm just saying it's worth considering sizing up based on how light the ski is and how it feels shorter than it is.

189s

I had a friend who was also on 164cm bdogs, about 5'6ish, and he ended up getting 180 keys, a ski that will feel MUCH longer than wets since they're rockered much less, and he loved them. you wont regret getting 177s.

Yeah, again, the whole goal of the ski is to feel shorter and to have more pop n flex then other classic skis of you size up to much the ski feel like a regular ski that looks longer instead of being this unique ski that let you do more. I can still do all the regular tricks on the 189 but they feel stiff, my nosepress look better on the 183 cause i can bend them good. I dont get why you would buy wet or wide and try to make them feel like a regular ski by sizing up it lose the purpose lol

I low key agree, I’m 5’5 and have 171 and 177(had)

Both will work, 177 will defo be more stable for jumps but you loose the snappyness of them while 171 will be less stable on jumps but super fun to jib!

both 177 and 171 will work hands down, just depends on what you want to sacrifice and gain

Finally a real ass take by someone who knows what they are talking about. Tired of all these size queens on NS always trying to convince people to size up

Just do the 171's

A lot of the kids who've been finding out about vishnu in the last year have been getting 171s even if they're like 5'7-8 and then you always find them selling them for retail on snowshare because they're too short for them

Op said he was 5’6 and 18 which probably means he ain’t gonna grow any more if you’re saying that these kids are reselling them it’s probably because they are still gonna grow which would be alright if they upsize but like raf said it makes them lose the whole purpose of the ski which is the ski feeling shorter to allow for easy maneuvering

exactly this, this site is so dumb sometimes. 171 is already 5cm above OP's head and will be great. vishnus have their specific attributes to make them perform as you want them to for their use, not for decorative length added on the end

i'm a big ski size guy but there is no way you want or need park/street skis to be 10cm over your head. especially if you're new enough that you're asking for size advice. literally almost nobody uses park skis 10cm over their head. big mtn shit, sure. park, no. these people commenting to get 177s are idiots

Keep in mind that 6 cm won't make a world of difference - that's 3 cm on each side. 10 cm is where you start feeling the difference in ski length and even then it's a matter of taste.

It is always best to at least hold them in a shop because not every brand measures the length the same way.

171 seems like your safe bet. 177 might be a bit long unless that's what you are aiming for.
