Torn ACL

i found out that my acl is completely torn, so basically the ski season for this year is obviously out the window. i live in ontario canada, and i was just wondering how long did the rest of you wait to get your surgery. i saw my surgeon close to two months ago, but have yet receive any information regarding approximately when the surgery is going to take place. therefore i am trying to find out on average, how long does it take for most ppl to get their acl surgery done.

america fuck yeah, we can get surgery when we need it.... haha silly canadians with you retarded socilized medicene

holy shit thats terrible. I can't believe the back up is that long for a torn acl, which is kind of a routine surgery. I thought the canadian system was better with everything being covered, but i could see how everything could get backed up like that. Wow.

it sucked big time. i screwed up another part of the same knee in sept 05.. ohm my meniscus. so i had to have double surgery. my original one was planned for july 05 but it got pushed to dec 05 and then all of a sudden people started effing up their knees because there was a sudden surge of ice on the ground hahha.

yea we do get free health care, but the catch is the waiting list is super high. maybe i should just go over the border and get it done. how much does it cost anyway just south of the border. waiting for more than a year to get my ACL done is ridiclious. i actually torn my ACL Feb. 04, but didn't know i torn it till this year when i broke my scaphoid(while skiing, good thing i didn't tear anything else when i was skiing with a messed up ACL). like i said before, i saw the surgeon almost 2 months ago but have yet to get a single word from them since then. i even tried calling them to find out approximately when the surgery will be taken place. 10+ phone calls and still nothing...

bottom line is, how much is it going to cost me to fix my knee in the state, and maybe someone from ontraio will give me their approx. waiting time for theirs. so i can judge if it's feasable to get surgery in a foreign country or sit out for 2 seasons of skiing...or sports of any kind.

i tore my acl february 25 and got sugery march 17.. st pattys day.. yup.

didnt take long to get it all scheduled. but. it sucked, needless to say.

im from ontario

took me 3 months to get it (start of the summer till the end of august)

i skied with a torn ACL last season, i just had to be really careful and wear a knee brace.

of course now its all repaired and i need to go rehab the shit out of my leg.

I tore mine Jan/Feb 06. Got surgery in July of '06. It just took a long time to see the surgeon because he was away. Once I saw him I was in within three weeks. Public healthcare too so it was all good.

I tore it march 10th and had surgury april 29th but the surgon was a family friend so we got bumped up, i live in quebec

thats my birthday.. waiting is also shorter in quebec because they get so much more federal funding than any other province. but yeah i have heard of waits being up to 15 months, but some as short as 3 weeks.. i dont think they ever operate earlier than 3 weeks because the injury is still so acute.

i tore mine a couple weeks ago, scheduled for surgery late october..........for those of you that have done it before how long have u taken to rehab and get back to sports and stuff? cuz im hoping to make it back for baseball in the spring. i tore it playing soccer and im pretty active so im in good shape and stuff and motivated to get back, so has anyone made it back in like 4 months??

i tore a diff ligament in my knee and i waited 4 weeks for surgery but it all depends on what doc you go to some could get you in quicker then others

hum...looks like it doesn't take too long to get it done with. on average about 6 months(cause that one person got it a little over a year). maybe i should wait around and see when am i gonna get it done. it just an annoyance that i called them so many times and they have yet to call me back regarding an approximate date for the surgery. i skied last year too, without a brace, and let me tell you acl does cusion your knee if you do case the landing.

haha dude I have the best of both worlds, I live in Ontario and we just got a brand new hosptial, and if I'm gonna be put on a waiting list I have health care for in the states and the Mayo clinic is only 6 hours south.

i tore mine in the beginning of July but by the time i went to see a doctor and got my MRI results back it was the end of July and they scheduled mine for early september. It would have been sooner, but there were alot of accidents in the summer, so it was booked. They told me i wouldnt ski at all because i had to have 2 surgeries and i skiied in the beginning of march, but it takes a good 6 months recovery, so goodluck.

im from Alberta and i got mine in 2 months, but i was rushed through to one of the better surgons in Alberta (sweeet) because i play high level rugby and had contacts through that, my sports doc even played for Canada so he knows exactly what i need. I was in good shape when i got injured and im 6 months out of surgery and still cant play, it depends on the sport, i cant wear a knee brace so it will take longer, i can ski though.

buy a knee brace (donjoy armor is a good one) and ski until you can have surgery. I played hockey and lacrosse and skied with that brace until I had my surgeries done. As long as it's just the ACL that's torn, there shouldn't be any pain, just instability.

that's what most doctors will give you (not necessarily that brand or model, but that kind of brace).
