Top Rated Videos Sorting and what's up with that?

I have noticed when seeing either the "Top Rated" videos from my videos, or using the sort by rating that the order is not correct as for ratings. I assume ratings are thumbs up's.

When I sort by views, it all looks correct.

Is there a way the "Top Rated" sorting can be fixed? Not like it's the end of the world, yet it would be nice if the ordering was correct. Like 188 up's is before 75 up's etc.

Much love, Jacques from Mt Bachelor

It's based on an algorithm that is not just upvote/downvote, but comments, views etc. You might see a video with more upvotes below one with less upvotes, but it likely the video with more upvotes has more downvotes, or less comments, etc. Everything is all good

Algorithm. Hmmm, that's deep! "a process or set of rules to be followed in calculations or other problem-solving operations, especially by a computer."

Well, that explains everything!

Thanks for the explanation! "a statement or account that makes something clear."

So it seems "rating" is much deeper than just votes up.

Much thanks again for the prompt reply.

If you want to nerd out on the math behind it, its loosely based on this post:
https://www.evanmiller.org/how-not-to-sort-by-average-rating.html

We have made a lot of modifications to it, and weighted in other factors - but that is the core mathematics behind it.
