Jeremy Clarkson and his Top Gear co-presenters have been forced to flee Argentina after the cars they had been using were pelted with stones by a mob of Falklands War veterans incensed by an 'offensive' number plate.

Video footage shows the three cars which had been driven by Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond speeding away under police escort after coming under attack near the town of Tolhuin on the way to the Chilean border.

In an incident which has proved to be PR gold dust, members of the production team, who were driving the vehicles at the time, were later forced to abandon them at a police checkpoint after learning another mob was waiting for them a few miles up the road.

It was: Andy Wilman, executive producer for Top Gear, said on Thursday: "Top Gear production purchased three cars for a forthcoming programme; to suggest that this car was either chosen for its number plate, or that an alternative number plate was substituted for the original is completely untrue."

Pretty sure this has less to do with the numberplates and more to do with the fact that they are still angry about some stupid patriotic war that the Junta propagated to the public in an effort to gain support.

The Falklands are an archipelago in the South Atlantic Ocean, Argentina has been claiming ownership for ages despite the British settlement existing before Argentina existed.

In 1982 Argentina invaded the Falklands, what then ensued was a war in which Argentina experienced deep visceral rape by the U.K.

Yeah, basically the dictator was losing his power in Argentina, and in an effort to broil up a last ditch option to get support, started this war where they took the islands.

Thatcher was in office, and... as dumb as a lot of her domestic policy was, she was the female Churchhill... and you don't fuck with anything like that.

So the Brits sent in a couple ships and some planes and mopped up right quick.

Argentina then got revenge 4 years later when Maradonna scored with the hand of god goal.. and since then there have been tensions between the two.

He's the star of the most popular TV show on the planet. He was never on probation. The local newspapers always try to make it seem worse than it is or they try to blow any story about him out of proportion. Clarkson is outwardly critical of them and they've always tried to smear him and turn the public against him. They have a history of taking quotes out of context as well.

I feel bad for these guys some times. There's a large populous of the public that would like morning more for them to be kicked off air. Everything they do is under a microscope. Especially clarkson. With that being said do I think they would go for that license plate on purpose? I doubt it. But even if they did the reaction doesn't justify the occurrence. I don't know. I'm probably rambling.
 
They were so upset they made a cartoon showing how awesome they are and how much the brits suck. Like basically all propaganda, it portrays the Argie's as super awesome and heroic, and the brits as evil. Also The Brits didn't steamroll the Argie's, both sides lost way too many men for a shitty fucking rock.

More news about this coming out. Clarkson said they had to hide under beds from the locals and that the whole thing was a set up but the Argentinian government.

I think for once Top Gear actually didn't do anything wrong. I am not disagreeing with the fact that they troll everyone and everything, but once the license plate was pointed out to them (two days into the trip) they changed it. I wouldn't put it past the Argentinian government because of what they have done in the past and they are still butt-hurt about the whole Falklands thing.

i remember reading in one of the comment sections of one of the news sites that the Porsche's plate was registered to the car years before it was ever purchased by the top gear production crew (yes production crew, the car was not purchased by clarkson)

It really is fucking stupid... and the Argentinians need to fuck off of it. The British only care because the Falkland Islanders are legitimately UK Citizens, so it's somewhat of an obligation now... There's almost no real purpose to a couple of Islands when Argentina has just an assload of unused land - seriously, I don't know why Arg doesn't have a bigger immigration issue, as it's a pretty strong economy in comparison to many of it's neighbors... namely Paraguay and Bolivia.

Seriously, it has the same population as if you took California and Oregon and put them all into a country slightly smaller than INDIA. to make matters funnier, Buenos Aires makes up like 30% of it's entire population of the country. It has so much fucking space. Having the Falklands and South Georgia is legit just the Argies trying to swing their dick around harder.

Doesn't matter though. Argentinian women are super stupid fucking hot.

pretty much, and the newspapers/tabloids/media just EAT it up. like fuck, they wont even post a letter from third parties because it would show that the TG guys are innocent and didnt purposely try to start a rock throwing veteran shit storm?
