I think nirvana. and the beatles. and I don't think any one said black sabbath. I think sabbath definitly has to be on there. they were way ahead of their time. back in the happy monkeys and beatles days and sabbath was talking about witches burning and stuff. they should be on there.

I think you guys are forgetting one of the greatest rock bands ever, the first rock band to spread mass hysteria and break ground on what can and can't be in music...KISS

and Aerosmith too...

I was born, a six gun in my hand...they call me Bad Company

ac/dc? what the fuck? they were just another band...they were no milestone or groundbreaker

I was born, a six gun in my hand...they call me Bad Company

Me- come here doggy

Karl-I dont think he understands english man

Alex-yeah, it is a GERMAN shepherd

they were the first widely controversial rock band...they brought sex and rock n' roll together, and were the first big show rock band

MAN THE FUCKING RAMONES, they are number 1 or 2, depending on how you place the beatles, no questions asked man,

'Keep on rocking in the free world'

Ramones definately, and Nirvana too. Yes, they did nothing new, but they certainly inspired a whole load of bands. Dead Kennedys and Bad Brains have to be in there too.

uhhhh actually buddy Elvis was the first to have a big controversial effect on the world for 'shaking his hips'. then the beatles when John Lennon said that they were more popular than Jesus Christ. They were banned in South African and some other countries for that. KISS was a good group but I wouldnt really call them groundbreaKing.

my personal opinion is that 70% of the kids on this site dont know shit about music. there is no way you could mention and punk band because punk has done nothing to affect anything. besides the small group of teens that listen to punk nobody even knows of it. punk is a phase (no affence to anyone) but it has done nothing to music. think of it this way, in 20 years do you accually think anyone will care was some punk band did. punk bands are nothing more then a phase that only lasts 1 or 2 albaums for the most part

'. . . thou shalt eat the herb of the field ' (Genesis 3:18)

'. . . eat every herb of the land ' (Exodus 10:12)

'Better is a dinner of herb where love is, than a stalled ox and hatred therewith' (Proverbs 15:17)

“He Causeth the Grass to Grow for the Cattle, and Herb for the Service of Man” (Psalm 104:14)

sure derek, how can you mention black sabbath

soundgarden and sex pistols. sure they may be a big imfluence on your music but overall they have had very little impact on society. you need to look at groups that have accually made a wide difference to music today. groups like the beatles changed the face of music, and i dont know a lot of jazz history but all rock music today can be traced back to jazz

well i think maybe you are in that 70% also and don't know what your talking abot,, i don't think you can even grasp the amount of influence the ramones had, they practically changed a society, their influence was ridiculously wide spread and carried on NOT ONLY into the punk classification, but to all rock bands afterwards

for example, bruce springstein, considered one of the all time greatest rock and roll superstars, once said his biggest influence was the ramones, pearl jam the same, bands that you would not suspect from maybe their sound because such a sound has progressed, but the ramones invented a whole different genre of music, a whole different way to play the guitar, and a whole different way to put on a show.

'Keep on rocking in the free world'

i dont recall saying anything about the ramones. i am not to familiar with them but it sounds like they had a lot of influence. im just saying that punk bands have had an influence on nothing other than punk. and personally i think bruce is a great musician but his current band sucks majorly

-jason-

freedom, tolerance, love and peace

a little factoid to impress your friends with . . . Bruce originally wrote Hungry Heart for the Ramones but his manager convinced him to keep it for himself and it turned into his first top 10 single. It would be interesting to hear how the Ramones would have recorded the song, because it is a pretty light poppy thing that doesn't even sound like Bruce. Bruce and Pearl Jam took inspiration from the Ramones, and Eddie Vedder is one of Bruce's biggest fans. A nice little inspiration triangle.

Operation Ivy , they invented ska for cryin' out loud!

No No No. operation ivy is great but they did not invent ska. Ska WAs created in Jamaica and trinidad in the early 60's. the first ska bands were probably the skatalites or the rude boys. Op Ivy is #rd Wave ska.

Bo Didly is tyte
