Tool....Fuckin A, Maynard....

Ok, so I'm visiting some friends in San Antonio, TX...and while browsing the newspaper, I see that Tool, without a doubt the most talented and creative progressive rock/metal band on the planet(and if anyone cares to disagree with me, you will recieve the most brutal and disconcerting open hand slap to the face of your entire life), happens to be playing on Sept the 12th...so I delay my flight, find a good ticket on ebay, pay almost twice what it sold for originally, and wait...well lucky me, it's the 12th and I get to see some fucking amazing-ness....so I grab my ticket and head out the door to the SBC/AT&T center, the venue for tonights show...which happens to be about a 50-60 mile round trip drive....no biggie, it's fucking Tool...so I leave and drive to the venue, upon arriving, I see a mostly empty parking lot and think to myself 'Score! Getting here early paid the hell off' and I look up at the scrolling/flashing light type billboard sign, which says 'TOOL' in huge letters...and I think to myself 'Awww, fuck yes! This is going to be the most amazing concert I've ever experienced'...then the sign flashes the word, 'POSTPONED'....and instantly my thought pattern shifts to 'FUCK ME!'. So I flipa bitch in the middle of the road at the first opportunity, and hit the curb cause I'm driving this big-ass fucking truck of my friends, and head back to the main entrance, where, when I pull up and guy hands me a piece of paper and says the shows been postponed cause one of the band members is sick (and on the local rock station, on the way home they said Maynard James Keenan was ill)...just my fuckin' luck. So they are supposed to re-schedule it, but I'm supposed to leave here Oct 10. which is already starting to encroach on my ski season, and if it's not before then, I can sell my ticket back, but will only get half of what I paid for it...so this is just me blowing off steam and sharing with you people how the most amazing concert of my life, turned into a shitty night, and I might end up losing cash because of it, and I wasted alot of gas cause that damn big truck has a V8....shit.

Ooooh, that sucks. My sister saw them in Denver and said it was awesome, I hope you get to see them! I don't know about them being THE most talented band though, I think Opeth might edge them out there.

I'm wearing one right now....apparently I'm a tool. But it has the eye of Shiiva on it so I'm quite fond of this shirt. Prying open my third eye...

I really hope they play before I leave here, and I dunno man, Danny Carey plays in some crazy hard time signatures, like Schism is in 12/8 I'm pretty sure, and Justins bass line in the start of 'The Pot'....freakin' ridiculous. And to the other guy, I hope you're laughing cause Tool owns you, because they do.

i have to disagree with your first coment tool is a horible band and i think you are to much of a pussy to slap me

Yeah, they're definitely awesome...you can probably tell I like them from my icon. I'd say they're in the top 5 metal bands right now for sure. And Danny Carey is GOD, I would kill to see him play, whether it was with Tool, Pigmy Love Circus, or VOLTO!

Tool have more musical talent and creativity than you, your aunt, your grandma's boyfriend and anyone else you know combined...and don't think I won't knock you one for talkin' shit...maybe learn a little about music and then actually listen to the pieces they put together, if you can turn off the new phat beat from fuckin' 50 cent or whoever is droppin' the rap shit like it's hot these days, you're nothing more than a rank, arrogant amature.

theyre like an orchestra togethere. its not just ok you play 3 chords and ill give you a simple drum beat. they take theyre time when making a record and include alot of classical influences even thouhg it doesnt sound like it. btw, i seen them 5 years ago and it was fucken sick. they had the big grapes floating in the back ground

psh.

im going to see the all-american rejects, motion city soundtrack, the format, and gym class heroes in new york city.

Sucks man, have had the same thing happen to me before, made a long ass road trip go see Tool on the first leg of the lateralus tour, but it was 9/11 and things changed. Anyway i'm hoping he gets better, i got tickets for monday.

i have tickets to the DC show sept 30th cant wait. Maynard must have been really sick because when i saw them in the spring at the tower in philly he was under the weather but still put on a kick ass show

Holy fuckin' shit, you kick so much ass right now...I read your post on the breakdown of Lateralus, amazing, even though I know Maynard and the guys would never admit to it, because they want everyone to draw their own conclusions, I think you may be 100% right about that song. Superb reveiw and analyzation of a extremely comples song from a complex band, I give you a whole bucket full of kudos.

True, I wouldn't mind seeing Motion City Soundtrack, but if I have to choose between them and Tool....pretty much ANY other band and Tool, I'm gonna be going to see Tool, thanks very much.

Some typos there, it should read:

Basically I think the way he analyzed and broke down the song was really good, and that there's a good chance he's absolutely right, but the band would probably never admit it if he was, because they don't like to say what their songs are about, they like people to listen and draw conclusions about what the song means to them personally, and I'm giving him kudos for writing a great peice on a very interesting and and comples song.

i didn't even read your post before i said that. i was randomly quoteing random people in random threads, and asking what the hell they were talking about... you were one of the lucky ones that got away with your life.

first off i saw tool last night in hartford it was amazing. there was a large black curtain with a head height white back that was used as a video screen and the whole stage was white and video images, lasers, and lights were reflected off of it. the vocals were a little dominated by the instruments at times but it was still the best concert ive been to yet.

second, i like the way you analyzed the song if you think about it the music fits your theory as well because it starts off with a more quiet and simple style, then turns more melodic/complex/climactic as he is being urged to "cross the line" and "reaching out". have you thought this deeply about their other songs as well?

No, not really. Lateralus is one of the songs that really means a lot to me so I've thought a lot about what it could mean. Of course it's completely open to interpretation, but I just explained it in a way that fits me.

still a very good interpretation. looking back it seems to fit the video footage that they chose to use when they played it live last night too

I was never a fan of tool or even that kind of music, but my friend had leftover tickets and brought me free to the concert at the tweeter center in MA and im safe to say it has changed my whole perspective on music. Seeing them live is such a great experience and there influence has helped me chnage the way I play guitar.
