TOOL, 10,000 Days

haha yeah right

"hey let's just toss together a musical masterpiece to fuck with our fans for a couple weeks before the real cd comes out"

if i'm wrong i'll eat my words but come on dude. the only difference between the copies floating around online and the real thing is the shitty bitrate mp3 conversion and the intentionally added flaws (those little digital ticks) that pop up throughout the cd.

ACtually you can't look at 6/8 as 3/4. Unlike math, you can't "simplify" time signatures. The reason is because in 6/8 the emphasis is placed heavily on the 8th note, giving it a triplet feel where you can't pick up the triplet feel in 3/4 until start getting into 3/4 where you are counting whole bars simply as "1". But that's just my slice of the pie. And schism is in 6/8

hey jambi this was also posted on a couple music blogs. look at the album cover artwork or even your icon. does the new logo say tool or does it actually say fool. just some more to think about.

this was also post in the tool army september 05 newsletter, blair responeding to someones question

Now where was I?.. Oh yeah, TOOL!.. I'm not going to reveal my source, Mister Patience, but do you want to know the kind of things that have been going on while this record was being recorded? Okay, first there was the decoy record just to confound all those would-be bootleggers out there. This took, oh, about a year, just because the band members wanted it to sound pretty close to the real thing (so as to be believable), along with equally believable art design. When they weren't working on this grand deception, there were other pleasant distractions, such as July 4th 'barbecues with Boar's Head dogs and Icelandic Barbie totally naked by the Jacuzzi, concerts at the Hollywood bowl with a nest of diamonds overhead (alright, a planet, two stars and a noisy police helicopter), velvet-roped "Family Guy" premieres, sailing in the blue Pacific, watching the Dodgers lose while drinking eleven-dollar watered-down Budweiser because they don't sell Czechvar or Sam Adam's "Utopias" at Chavez Ravine (that will be the day... yeah, when Aloke is asked to play the National Anthem on his Bengali bongos)., and here I was with my severe cenosillicaphobia, sitting between Adam and Buzz with only thirty-three dollars in my pocket, watching home runs and fireworks behind the Orange Curtain with L.A.'s latest acquisition (i.e. the Angels),.. and free Hooter's Buffalo wings if they win by 10 runs or more... and they DIDN'T (the fix was on at nine!)

And then try to imagine what when on in the studio itself (this time while recording the real CD). "Sure we could send a runner for take-out from Arbys, but instead of Big Montanas, let's grill marinated salmon in the parking lot...in fact, let's pull the plug, board our Tool Lear jet and go to Alaska and catch the salmon ourselves."

just some more to think about. i dont know i guess we will all find out may 2nd. all i don know is that something is not quite on the up and up.

4 days to go but i think its legit. i know they are rumors but i dont believe it. a few years ago i read that they werent supposed to release a new record till 2009. and i seen a tv ad for the new record with the same cover art and vicarious playing so i think it is legit. even though i have a burned copy from the downloads, im still going to buy this record first thing on tuesday. now all ill need is a new aenema cd cuz mine got fucken stolen

for fucks sake there is no hoax and no fake album.

on another note though, i've been browsing some other boards and there are SOOO many people talking so much shit on this album, saying that anyone who likes it is just a "sheeplike fanboy." saying things like "it's just recycled tool and sounds like crappy perfect circle blah blah blah blah." i can't believe some of the things i've heard.

fucking ignorant monkeys.

i hasve already said that i like thier other albums better. it is not that i think it is bad its to me just not as good as previous stuff. so personally i am hoping that there is a clever ruse comingh to fruition. but i guess we will find out when we all buy the album may 2nd

Symphony X

Dream Theater

Audioslave

Velvet Revolver

There's four right there in 1 second of thinking.

Pretty much every rock band I have is better than tool.

The vocals aren't too great and the guitar is simple chords along with a small solo.

But they sound cool.

woah woah woah.... audioslave better than tool. i dont know about that. audioslave licks nuts compared to rage against the machine and soundgarden. tool is probably one of the most unique bands out there, which is why i like them. audioslave sounds way too much like everything else out there. its just boring when everything sounds like the exact same cookie cutter songs.

I am going to have to claim that you are not very music savvy. I see what you are getting at with Dream Theater. Portnoy and Petrucci are awesome... don't get me wrong. But, Audioslave and Velvet Revolver? You are just playing around, I am assuming. Although Rage Against the Machine is one of my favorite bands of all time... you just can't compare their musical talent to Tool. It just can't be done fairly.

Danny Carey and Maynard Keenan of Tool are musical GENIUSES my friend. If you knew how they constructed their album Lateralus, you would shite yourself. The entire thing is one long Fibonacci sequence. Look that up on Google to see what i mean.

Dream Theater are all incredibly talented talented artists who are all very technical. Petrucci shreds, but i don't know... you just can't really put a scale on creativity meshed with talent I guess...

Uhhhhhhh.....I can't think of a response worthy of that comment. Is Danny Carey an amateur as well?

tool shit really isnt all that simple to play. if your fucken super uber amazing then ok yeah but then what isnt hard to play? the songs are all long and theres so many variations. the songs are not just constructed of 4 different riffs. theres so many to remember for just one song.

^exactly. thats what i love about them. it is very organic... the sound just meanders from one rif to the next in between rediculous drum solos. the whole song sounds similar, but is never repetitive because they throw in small little changes everywhere. making a 10 minute song that isnt repetitive is an achievement in itself... now making it sound good, thats just insanity.

i'll admit that chris cornell has an outstanding vocal range and is probably ththe best lead singer in music next to maynard. but saying there rhythm section isnt very good is a complete crock. danny carey is the best drummer in the world right now and justin is no slouch on base.

i can respect your opinion that you do not care for tool that much is alright but to say they are not musically gifted is an insult

Okay, so it's released today. There is officially no giant hoax, the downloaded was legit BUT:

The art on this album is fucking insane, the glasses thing is pretty sick too. Also the sound quality is 500 billion times better then any bootleg so GO BUY THIS ALBUM!

there isn't another band named tool that you're listening to is there? because tool's lyrics are head and shoulders above any other band out there. but maybe you just think "the pot" is a song about smoking weed.

and audioslave is good, i really like them, but they aren't even in the same ballpark in comparison to tool. morello might beat adam jones in a skills competition but other than that......come on dude.

Dude...you know jack SHIT about music theory if you think Tool isn't that talented. They are basically the best classically trained composers the metal music world has seen.

give me a classical influenced song. That actually sounds a little bit classical.

Name one and show me the classical influence.

I know symphony x doesn't sound like tool, but they have a crapload of classical influence that you can actually hear.

i think it is just the fact that there is distortion in the songs that makes it sound like that. i bet if you looked at the sheet music it would look a lot like classical stuff. like pushit definately has some meandering classical style progressions in it, but it doesnt sound like it simply because of the guitars.

Simply because a band doesn't use an actual "symphony" like Rhapsody for example doesn't mean they aren't using classical elements. For one, the complete lack of actual riffs in any song off of 10,000 days, how each piece actually builds upon itself rather then repeating over and over. Also the chord progressions in a majority of songs are very classically influenced, rather then the normal shitty 5-3-5 below-1 chord progression you hear in a lot of metal and punk. Basically they know their shit.

i just picked it up today, and its amazing. the case is pretty wicked to with the whole 3-D lens thing
