Too old to start competing?

I want to start expanding from the BC comps into competing in the park, and I'm 16...is it way too late to begin to even think about competing in slopestyle?

Kids nowadays at 12 years old are throwing down cork 9s in the park...I'm just trying to learn that cork/bio stuff this winter. Is it worth it to spend the money on comps if I'm just going to get shown up or will comps help my progression incredibly?

the more you compete the better you will want to get

they are a really fun experience..win or lose, you never know with the judges.

but I ski the park for fun!

dude, i'm 21 and was in the same boat as you trick wise when i started competing at 18. To answer your question about progression, last year i did 12 comps and placed in 9 of them. It's never too late!!

I rarely ski park so yeah...it's kind of a problem since my home mountain doesn't have one. I practice on BC booters.

get a pass to a new mountain, or 2 mountains. and just hit up the park

I am really not that good on jumps, so if you get good in at least one area and mediocre in another you can place for sure...I have placed in quite a few and won 1

im 16 too dude, and i want to enter a rail jam here and there, but im bad. i guess the more comps you enter the more you push yourself to get better, ultimatly progressing yourself as well as your trick agenda

come out west bro

you know me. I'll lend you a place to stay if I'm back at that time. There are a couple in february and one big one in march. They may move it to earlier though.

isnt the reason we ski is to have fun and enjoy winter? who cares if your "too old" rock it and have fun with it, everyone is forgetting this nowadays

I have fun with my BC comps and skiing in general but I worked really hard last season to get better so I want to take it to park competitions.

I am really looking to see if I can pick up some extra cash and gear for free since I depleted my bank account this year basically buying new skis/clothes. Puberty blows...

ahh man this is good stuff *wipes away a tear*. You are 16 dude! Compete as much as you want. I will be 27 this winter... I would kill to be 16 again. Who am I kidding, I could barely ski when I was 16

Who cares just do it, I'm gonna be 19 and hoping to go to the US open and aspen snowmass open. You'll be too old when you can't ski park anymore.

wow dude 16 is definatly not too old, not even close, have you realised some people still ski park crazy good well into their 30's? newschool skiing is too new to have alot of older people in it, but there are still a few that are getting close to 40 that are still crazy good.

chris turpin started skiing when he was 19 i think. and turned pro 2 or 3 years later.

if i had to put an age on it id say 30 is too old to start competing. you could start when your 25 and thats still pretty damn young.

look at skateboarding, there are tons of crazy good pro's in their 30's and 40's.

You arent too young to start, BUT say you do a steezy ass bio nine and some 12 year old does one but its shittier, you know whos gonna win? the 12 yearold

well, if this makes you feel any better, chris turpin started skiing when he was 20. not that hes in any significant comps but hes better than a lot of people at park and hes not that much older now (i think hes like 26-27 something like that)

the comps at my mt. are so fun. my whole age group gets fuckin ripped and we just have fun. cept for like 1 kid who takes it wasy to serioulsy.

Ive only done 3 comps in my life, and Im 17. I did one out of town, I was there late, and didnt place. I did 2 in town, and placed 2nd in Mens Rail (no ski catagory, I was against all the snowboarders), and 4th in Big Air. I would have never tired some of the stuff I did if it wasnt a comp.

he's got it right.

im 15 and more less just started compeating at all, I have no plans to not try as hard as I can just because some other people that are 12 are better then me.

Believe it or not, not all comps are spin to win. I have placed 1st in every local comp, and the biggest spin I've ever done in any of them was a 3.

yeh man i had my first comp when i was 15 i beleive. had so much fun. got SMOKED. but still has alot of fun. its a good way to also show others that dont know you who you are. meaning gettin lots more ski buddies to shred with. also you can really work on style and shit.

haha I was expecting a 25-30 year old to be starting this thread! Dude your 16! Its the perfect time! Get on that shit.

i compete and i'm 13 but i suck shit and to it to have fun. i usually come in the bottom 2 but i still have fun.

Competing isn't just about winning. It's about pushing your limits, meeting cool people, and having a good time. Even if you're never close to pro, it will make you a better skier. As for age, I'm almost 27 and still compete.

I wouldn't call it losing. I'd call it... not winning.

Stay positive. Go for it! Unless you're tight on cash, it won't hurt to push yourself.

hey man what big mountain comps do you ride in?

cause i go in the one here (red) and lake louise and fernie

im 19 i started skiing at 17 and competed last year..ive placed in like almost every comp ive entered..they are fun..i can only do a 540 as my biggest spin and i got 3rd in a big air comp and won myself 50 bucks haha

i read an article about a female snowboarder who never went snowboarding until she was 18 but she knew she wanted to be pro snowboarder before she ever went. I dont think its ever to late to start something

My boss is mid 40's. He enters our comps and throws down the dirtiest backflips you'll ever see. 16 is a perfect age. You got a lot of time to progress and improve.

thanks guys, this reply sums up what I decided.

I'm going to save up some cash for competition entries only and start practicing my stuff. Cheers for the upcoming winter season, y'all.

dont you have to be 18 to compete in big mountain comps???

but anyways 16 isnt old at all you still have so much time, fuck it just go out there and have fun, who cares where you place just go out to ski with new riders you normally wouldnt ski with

i first started to do comps last year, im 17 now but i wa sleik alright at park and just learnign cork and stuff

and i won about 5 and placed no lower than 3rd in all of em all year. there was liek a bunch cuz it was thei s series. its soo fun to jsut burn and chillin the park with kids cuz u get all amped up and it helps u learn new tricks.

once i was super baked and i thought these guys were doing 10's off the jump and i was liek wholy shit these kids r sick. so i decided i needed to step it up cuz i love throwin down int he park. so when i went i tried a cork 10 for my first time and i totlay stomped it. and it turend out that the guys wer ewjust doign 7's and i won. it was a sick supprise.
