Too much toe bang

I have the full tilt drop kicks from last year and last year I suffered some nasty toe bang. I dealt with it anyways and my toenails came of, etc. I had the shop punch out the sides because they weren't fitting my feet properly and they told me that I should just not land backseat to prevent toe bang. I was in pain for the rest of the season but assumed they won't hurt once they heal. Yesterday I skied for the first time this season a solid 12 hours. Within about two or three hours my toe bang had come back pretty bad. I realized that my boots were way too loose but I tightened them up pretty damn tight and then I was pretty much good except for the occasional backseat landing or any flat landings. They still did hurt like a bitch all the time though. My question is are my boots too small or can I get the toe box punched out a little for more toe room? I did notice that having the boots tighter greatly reduced the amount of times that I bashed my toes.

what are you trying to ask... to prevent toe bang cut toenails that usually helps a lot, if you have long toe nails thats what usually causes toe bang in the first place

Or your boots were not properly fitted and they are too big causing your feet to jam in the front of the toe box when landing

You've identified you're two problems here:1) You land backseat (this sucks I loose many a toe nail to this)

2) You're boots don't fit

If you are not landing backseat very often then it has to be #2. Ask a bootfitter the exact same question you are asking us and he will set you straight.

Another possibility, you could try switching up socks. Go for something thinner like a compression sock. Boots fucking suck, getting them dialed is always a pain in the ass. Best of luck.

Sorry my question is a bit confusing. What in asking is how to prevent it because I'm getting some horrible toe bang. I'm not sure if it's from long nail. Would it help if my boots are tighter because I usually wear them looser? And would it be possible that they are too small?

I think I do land backseat often and it happens whenever I have a lot of pressure on tails, like when I fall, which is often. They are definately not too big like what was said above.

Toe bang is pretty much unavoidable. I generally lose both my toe nails by the end of the season. It only takes one good backseat landing to fuck you, it's just unavoidable over an entire season.

If you have already gotten toe bang I find it's pretty painful the following weeks because the toe is pretty bruised. Just take some advil and suck it up.

Alright cool yeah I guess I'll take some time off to heal. And would a help somewhat if I got the toe box punched out a little at the shop? Boot Maitinence for the first year is free for me.

You need some footbeds. Foot beds don't only help surport your foot they can also help stop your foot sliding into te front when you land backseat. Get some good customs and have the toe box stretched and it should be much better.

This. Always this. If you do not have good footbeds, then any stretching or shell modification is not going to help you out. Here is what is literally happening inside your boot: your flexible foot is collapsing on impact (landing), becoming lower volume as a result, and sliding to the front of your boot. A footbed prevents this collapsing and sliding to happen, thereby keeping your foot locked in the back of the boot.

If you have footbeds already, consider upgrading because it sounds like your current ones are not working properly.

Probably too much extra volume in your boot. It sounds like your boot is too big or just doesn't fit right. Landing backseat or not I've never had toe bang in boots that fit right. Good chance you can improve your fit with an insole or wedge or something. Get an expert to check out your boots for you and try a different staff person or shop if you are not getting help.

Both what Tom and nerdy said is spot on, as well as moulding with a toe cap. If your shop did not mould your liners with a toe cap go back and have them do it after they build your full custom insoles.
