Tom Wallisch Speaks

nothing? i would like to fly around in a heli for two weeks, skiing with the best pros in the world, hitting awesome features, having sick parties, with hot chicks, living in a nice hotel and being treated like a royalty. how much sicker can an event be? i wouldnt consider this as nothing. the non monetary rewards are often better than the monetary ones. they should get real and love skiing for the sake of it, like many other pros, and not for the cash.
i wish, that the three would talk things out, apologize and have a better JOSS next year.now we have the pros crying like primary school girls, and two truly awesome skiers missing next year.

Jesus what a little crybaby. Are you gonna cry all day crybaby? You know everyone has problems, it doesnt mean you have to be a little crybaby about it. Come on guys lets go this Tom is totally not cool. Yeah thats the most uncool kid ive ever met. Little crybaby.

I know we don't know the full extent to the personal side of the story, but when it comes down to it, they broke the rules and posted the video. I know I'm guilty of not doing this sometimes, but YOU HAVE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY OF YOUR ACTIONS! By trying to reason your mistakes and trying to pawn it off on someone else is low... it shows insecurity. Also, that letter was no apology, an apology doesn't include what I just said, trying to reason your mistakes. I think that letter wasn't written by tom and dumont personally, there was a lottt of help from Dumont's people (have to protect his image).

Anyways, this will allll blow over in a few weeks when JOSS is all out of our mind, and I think all will be good in NS land, but it's always fun to have controversy once in awhile! Anyone remember when Dumont won X-games big air with a double front flip over the ground breaking dub 12?? "hey, I don't make the judging rules'. Yup that blew over within a few weeks.

WOW! Newschoolers is criticizing TWall? What happened? Is he not a god anymore? I always thought something bad is gonna happen if I'd do that...

the one thing that definitely needs to happen next year is they need to make the rules clear and then follow them. if your gonna judge on skiing talent then whoever skied the best wins. if your gonna judge on the best film, then the best cinematography and editing needs to win. if your gonna have an overall film competition then judge on the best film blending all the categories together. if you tell everybody one thing and then dont stick to your word and change how you judge the contest, people are going to get pissed...

I am a pro skier, I get paid to go ski and party in Are, sweeden for two weeks, but then some guys didn't like my video and the whole trip was ruined. Waaaaaaa.

Why can't the skiers just say, oh well didn't win that one, still had a fun two weeks, what can we work together on to make it better next year? That's what really seperates them from true professionals. They just chose to throw hisy fits instead.

"the jumps were wack! -X games

"no speed" - eco

"wack judging" - us open

the result is just more bitching

Because in 10 years they're all going to be unemployed or waiting tables and they really, really need that giant check to save for a rainy day when they have no knees left.

In real talk, they do take it seriously and that's great, can't have a good comp if no one wants to win it. But given the several hundred thou some of these guys are getting paid by sponsors, hire a half-decent PR guy to tell you what you should and shouldn't keep to themselves. This is childish and an absolute image nightmare for T-wall and if Simon had any further to tumble down the pit of "reputation as an arrogant prick" he's hurling himself onward with reckless abandon.

Not going to read through the whole thread to see if this has been mentioned.

Was there this much whinging last year when one of the vids leaked early? Don't think so.

Looking forward to seeing the first edits come out in an hour or so, but don't understand why Jon says the first film is only released today becuase it takes ages to convert to the right format etc. It just doesn't

I help run a similar event where 18 short edits are made and last year uploaded and released all 18 films the morning after the event. Not saying this is the best way to launch films; just that it would be more honest to say the films won't be release for x days in order to increase expectation and view numbers, not that it takes ages to convert formats.

OMFG, get off their dick.

Have you ever heard that people have different opinions? The real judges (iberg, pk hunder, some pro snoboarder guy and someone else) know what is good, that is why Jon chose them to judge. You think Jacob Wester knows whats better than Iberg, the guy who has been making good ski movies since day 1? That was their only job to judge the movies, and if you think that they played favorites, you are full of shit. The best movie wins, it sounds like Team Canada just had more creativity and maybe some more funny things in their vid. Simons and Toms movie had good skiing (alot of shit we've seeen before though) but their intro was terrible and not creative (I think someone else did a intro just like that in the past)

Ok, Tom and Simon spent a few thousand on their trip. How much do you think Jon spent? Fuck, I wouldnt doubt its over 50 thousand at least. Did you read his blog? he has a VERY good reason for people not to release the videos early. its because its the ONLY way to keep track of every video hit. Thus, when hes trying to get sponsors for next year (sponsors are what generate the freesking world if you didnt notice) is so he has hard solid proof of how much exposure his event is getting so the sponsors will be more willing to help. Do you understand that?

All 18 of these Tom vs Simon vs Jon threads are based on rumors and speculation since no one has seen the other videos..

I can find you a ton of guys doing way more stressful jobs then these guys, most get paid less then pro skiers. Many have wives and children. Few will still have their job in 10 years, many won't be alive in 10 years.

It's not like professional skiers are completly worthless at all other aspects of life. They can get another career after their ski career fizzels out in a few years. One that does not require them to beat up on their body as much.

We don't have to speculate anything because Team America knowingly leaked their video. They knowingly promoted it on Twitter and Facebook. It doesn't matter how the judging went or who won, they broke an agreement and put their video online early. That right there is enough to know they are just being immature and unprofessional.

not really. walker's view strengthen's the argument that the judging was off, maybe. doesn't change the fact that dumont and wallisch leaking the video and then posting a weak fucking "apology" is weak fucking behaviour, doesn't matter who you are.

just would like to say my "tom/simon response thread" was clearly the best out of all of them /claim

Sounds like the band is breaking up. Nothing left to do but commit mass suicide.

i could see the dumont doing this but tom? i thought you were supposed to be mad chill, didn't your dad ever teach you to be a man and always hold up your side of a deal? even if it means people have to wait anothercouple of days to see your video? you didn't win fair and square, its a video contest and canada made the best video, you didn't, you didn't win, so make like all the other teams that lost and just keep quiet about your negative opinion, and thank jon face to face, and yes... you should have gone out of the way to find and thank jon, even if it took a whole day, becuase he gave 2 entire weeks for you guys!. instead of stoking us all out, you're tearing apart the skiing community right at the seams, at the sickest contest in the world with all of the best skiiers coming together and having fun. and its funny how i noticed that schlopy had time to show some class and talk to jon and he didnt have any part in this video leaking scandal, so props to alex, but tom, show some class, now america wont have as good a team next year, so becuase of you not thinking before doing, all american fans have to suffer

thanks a whole lot tom and simon, you guys are the best! /end of rant

i don't think team america was upset about the judging. like walker said, they just changed the format. on the JOSS homepage ther ist still the whole concept description with a total different judging format. I personally think it would have been better with the original judging format- because sending team europe and DU home with zero points is not really nice.

thats the format from the joss homepage (i think jon also described it in one of his blogs during joss):

[*]New judging format. We think that

the last year’s judging criteria’s promoted technical tricks a little

too much, so we have adjusted them to optimize the judging. It is not

an easy task, but we believe we have a great formula this year:
- Style tricks (16 points max)

- Tech tricks (16 points max)

- Urban (16 points max)

- Filming (16 points max)

- Overall (32 points max)
I have only seen, team down under, team europe and team america and hands down i would say team america has been the best. America had a pretty cool intro and it was well put together, i t was super chill and had the most stoke.

i actually agree with you for once. these guys are fuckin retarded. kinda glad i don't have to party and ski with them all the time.

So says Wester, who is 1 person. If the edit doesn't meet the criteria for judging..it's going to lose poiints. They evidently didn't meet the criteria for judging.

Yes we do read, and if you cant inturpit what Jon was saying here is what he quite possibly ment by '' I will rethink who i invite next year''

Implying that they are not going to be comming back.

God dont you understand writing?

idiot

"In terms of Jon speaking about considering more thoroughly “who he invites next year,” you don’t have to worry about us. As we have already told you and your co-workers at the event, we will not be returning next year. "

derp

Has Schlopy said anything about this or has he kept silent? would be interested in his side to the whole thing as it seems he has been pretty unspoken on the events.

It doesn't matter how upset they were about the judging releasing their video early is just pure childishness, they clearly cannot take losing! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the edits!

They knew what they were getting themselves into when they leaked the video. So, by leaking the video, they showed they had no interest in going back. Honestly, they should have just respected Jon and tole they weren't going back, but not leak the video, if they didn't mean any disrespect.

I don't know, it's really hard to figure out who is in the wrong in this situation and really i don't think that either one is MORE in the wrong it's cool that tom did write to try to explain his reasoning but at the same time simon and tom posting the video is a little shady...what i'm trying to say is that the ski world is too small to do stuff like this and when people do it's pretty cool that people at least try to apologize

i have decided from here on out to be a neutral party. both sides have valid, and strong points, and i think that if i try to pick a side, i will just end up liking my favorite contest and one of my favorite skiers a little bit less.

he is being the smartest one. tom and simon issue aside, handled it horribly. the freeskiing world is a small one. and schlopy is going to have a lot of oppurtunities coming up he is being smart and not ruining any of them

1. your hating on two of the worlds best free skiers.

2. your hating on one of the worlds best free ski film makers.

3. you probably have no actual understanding of the situation.

4. you cant ski.

finally, and now i think we can let gras grwo over it...i dont' care about simon!!!

Tom Wallisch is a stand up guy…

Just got a GREAT e-mail from

Tom.

Thought you guys should know. Everyone makes mistakes in the

heat of the moment (I will be the first to admit that I have done things

that I am not proud of) but the important thing is how you handle it in

the end. Tom handled it well.

Feels kind of weird to be updating

you guys on our little conversations but since we started it I guess

this is pretty valid info as well!

We are now all good so no more

stupied internet fighting!

thats nuts that jon got all worked up about that.

and i think that they should have spessified how they would be judging the event.

its sad that they won't be partisipating in next years JOSS.

but at least we'll be able to see them kill it in other edits!
