Tom Wallisch Speaks

i cant believe they are complaining over a compition. twall is critiquing the judging and all but i highly doubt he could throw something together like this in the first place. props to all the other teams that worked there asses off got last and didn't complain at all

Speaking with some pretty intimate knowledge about this whole situation, I've got to say that I have Tom and Simon's backs on this one... Don't be too quick to judge them for how they handled this.

Hey tom, what about the guy who gave you a sick style to copy, don't you think he feels a little slighted by never getting any recognition for all the hard work he put into it haha. Skiing is mostly fun. hope everyone had a great ski season but it is officially thecomeupbmx.net and thecomeupboard.com season now.

Of course Tom has intimate knowledge regarding the situation, he was there. Either way it is a bit of a backstab to post the edit despite the event coordinators wishes to post them on his site. Jon does a lot for everyone and I think Tom is seriously lacking in gratitude. I have obviously never been to a Jon event, but the fact that you get to go and stay in Sweden and play on perfect features is enough, contest money is icing on the cake. I just think its a bit ridiculous that Tom (and Simon I don't know) had to pull off such a move because of his disliking of the judging format. Tom, you're a good guy, but damn.

Don't forget they are giving up 2 weeks of valuable time when they could be filming segments for movies to release in the fall, like Josh B's. Maybe part of the reason you didnt see Josh B or Jonny and Tyler from Poorboyz there....I think Josh is speaking from personal experience, not thru Tom's experience from this season.....

That's the choice every skier makes between competition and filming. No one is forcing anyone to be there. And the segments done in these 2 weeks get as much if not more recognition and views than the ones we will see this fall. From the point of view of a a filmer that sells his movie, not to their advantageFrom the point of view of a skier, it gets them a bonus segment, which like i said earlier, will probably get more views.

Yes but as stated previously in this thread, Tom and Simon CHOSE to go to JOSS.
On a side note, to anyone who sticks up for simon and Tom, that's cool but remember Simon's history.
You only have to look as far back as the Dew Tour to remember simon throwing a hissy fit when Jossi scored higher in the pipe. ANY other pro skier out there would have let it go and bit their tongue. Sure its ok to be pissed and feel like you've been hard done by, but as soon as he opened his mouth and started complaining, that's when its gone too far.
You can guarantee if it was Andreas who got nudged by Jossi, the first thing he would of done would be put on a fake smile and go congratulate and give Jossi a hug.
Simon on the other hand goes and sulks... which is an interesting insight into his personality.
Its the same thing at JOSS. Regardless of how good they thought their edit was, getting all angry because they didn't win was NOT COOL.
At the end of the day skiing is JUDGED. So there's a subjective human element involved. You can get all angry and complain about the judges decision or you can live with it and accept a difference of opinion. If Simon and Tom can't handle that then maybe they should go take up a sport that has a clear winner. I'm sure there's a million other skiers out there happy to fill their spot and go party in Sweden for two weeks and you can guarantee some less well known replacements wont give a shit if their edit doesn't win.
Simon and Tom = most immature pro skiers right now. That's saying a lot when there's people like chug on the scene. Kidding... Chug's immature in a funny way, not a douchey way.

I don't care what the circumstances between Tom/Simon and Jon/JOSS but to act so unprofessional is disappointing. They made an agreement to let Jon post the videos on his site first, be it written or verbal. They should be grateful to be invited there out of the numerous skiers that could of gone. They obviously had something make them post the edit on the Empire site and promote it all over Twitter and Facebook. Very unprofessional of them. Doesn't matter how mad they were, or if Jon pissed them off, etc. you don't act childish and break an agreement. It will ultimately hurt them in the future and lets hope Jon sticks to his word and doesn't invite them back next year.

wow that was allot to catch up on reading that thread....I really dont know which side to take....lets just wait and see the edits before we start bashing! But that edit was pretty dope

I don't know if this has been said already but: So Tom says that him and Simon spend thousands to go out there and make edits and such but they get no money or anything in return? I thought they get prize money (if they win or place of course i mean) And don't the skiers sponsors pay for alot of stuff like airfare and hotels? Please feel free to correct me if im wrong, i might just be being naive

Im not really on anyones side as of now, maybe leaning a little more toward Jon but idk.

Wow this is interesting.

Im def with Jon on this one.

Yes Team America had good skiing in it. The Intro was fucking stupid though.

Obviously they should have known in a film competition that unique/interesting shots are going to be better than just ski-porn.

thats fucking stupid they leaked the vid. Very childish. They spent thousands? Lol yea maybe 3-4 g's over two weeks, MAYBE.

Nobody likes a fucking drama queen seriously. Grow some balls and man up for fucks sake

Tom has been repeatedly posting this on his facebook page. I just watched it, although the skiing was good I thought it lacked in creativity. The intro was okay, the skiing was good, the creativity/quality of the shots were not at the level of last years winner by any means however. Very not cool to be posting this

so i wasn't blown away by the edit. Good skiing. I guess i just didn't like the way it was put together. I didn't think that the song went with it either. However, not putting the video out is the dumbest rule ever. This makes me think that Jon is a rich stuck up asswhole and if everything isn't exactly his way he crys about it. Its skiing and it is an edit that is made for the comp and the public. Way not put it on the net as soon as its done. Wgy wouldn't u want to get everybody stocked about skiing? Don't make us wait for no reason. I mean WTF is up with that?

From Jons' blog - Thought I would start my blog comeback with a "video release explanation" as many seem to wonder whats up! This is a rough explanation of what the week end looks for the JOSS organization.Sat- [/b]We get all the videos in HIgh res, we stress all day to get all the movies in the correct format and frame rates (some export in US format and some in Euro) and get them on the big screen. Sun-[/b] We are dead, JOSS organisation takes a day off after 14 days of barly sleeping.Mon-[/b] Crill collect all the vids from Awards producer. Starts converting to Vimeo format. (A lot of big files to convert)Tues-[/b] Re-design website and get it ready for "final videos" Make sure all is on point, get ready for Wed. Coordinate with all websites and get press releases out.Wed-[/b] Crill uploads and we release first video at 18.00.[/list]So as you can tell, it's not like we are sleeping and delaying the videos on purpose

my 2 cents

Tom, Simon, get over yourselves.... youv made this whole situation about you, and about how you need to get something out of it etc etc, SHUT UP..... Jon puts so much money and more importantly time and effort into one of the most sickest events and anticipated events of the year.... and for you to say it costs you thousands of money etc to go there, so you feel you have the right to pre release,, the you shouldnt of gone... because all your being is selfish!

If you feel this way, and that you guys need to get something out of it now, then you contridict everything you pros say skiing is, you should be greatful an event like this happens for you guys, man you guys are lucky, and your starting to stop realising it, and its lame...

Show some respect, set an example, and grow up

my 2 cents

dont get me wrong i know what your sayin. Im just sayin that i dont see anything wrong with it being released on youtube before jon's website. I means its not just his edit. His name is on it but its simon and tom's and everybody elses that helped too. Thats how Tom got so big was Youtube so why wouldn't he put his newest edit up. I just think that it helps get people excited bout skiing. No hating on JOSS though. I think that it is sick and they do an awsome job. Just don't get why simon and Tom can't come back next year. I mean they are the best and the event is for the best. U know?

because when the edit is put on youtube there is no links to sponsors. Thy are who payed for he event and so they are going to be pissed that they paid for the competition and now there is no end product for them. 30000 people have already watched the video and this is the market that the sponsors are missing out on. De to this the sponsors may drop out as there is no benefit them being there and the event will be harder to put together next year.

Simon have Dumont cup and better manage his own thing going on there, its not the end of the world with a JOSS without him riding? I rather see Tanner, Candide, B Brown and new riders next year!

you getting involved is just making you look like a dick to im sorry....

Tom and Simon fucked up, and look like total douche bags, and its up to them to sort it out.... not for you to come in and take sides and create more hate in the situation and ultimately divide the ski community.... you need to grow up bro, it has nothing to do with you and for you to get involved and take sides is pointless and childish

ok well i do understand that and yes there should be a link to all the sponcers that made this happen. Really good point.

You are a filmer, why not send us some new footage so we can put it up on Youtube? Why keep the kids waiting for it? Why buying movies at all?

Duh....

firstly, i am not trying to pick sides, as i dont feel the need to, but i will say that tom and simon did act quite immaturely by posting their edit early, regardless of their intentions.
Jon, it is impossible to say that the leak of their video is going to hurt the stats and retain sponsors, because as far as i know, due to whatever reason, you have never been completely successful in releasing all of the joss edits on your site, therefore you have no solid set of previous statistics to base from. I personally believe that the leak to youtube and facebook will improve your statistics, as it is exposing your event to an even greater audience through various others that may stumble onto, and in turn share the JOSS videos with their peers.
Also, from what I understand about the judging format, it seems that the overall impression was really the deciding factor in the judging, and turned the final results into a "judges choice" rather than a best edit based on the other judging criteria. in my opinion, the overall impression should be used strictly as a tie breaker, or at least have less impact on the final scores. i would also like to emphasize that i am not trying to put down any of the other edits, especially since i havent seen any of them yet.
with that being said, the leaked edit is not as big of a deal as it seems, yes it was inappropriate for tom and simon to release it, but it will not detract from the end impression of the event. also, tom and simon, what did you honestly expect to get out of the event, through winning or not, the shots you got from joss in previous years, as amazing as they were, couldnt be used any more than another mid/end season edit, and the two of you should realize that, as simon, you have been to joss three times now, and tom twice, the two of you should know better, and realize that in the end it is the same as any other competition.
it is really truly unfortunate to see problems come from an event like this, and to see such backlash and drama from an amazing event is upsetting and disappointing.
i mean no hate to anyone, you all have reason to be upset, but it isnt nearly as big of a deal as it has been turned into.

Are you fucking serious??? You're going to bitch at him for having an opinion in this when you're last post started with "my 2 cents"?? You don't think he should be allowed have an opinion on the matter when you just threw in your opinion? Fucking hypocrite!

yeah i do think that

because,.... all he is doing, along with team america... is creating bitching and politics within the pro skiing community... new schoolers always share their opinions, whatever... but when pros start taking sides, they are the ones leading our sport, so they will be the ones who ruin it

Yeah thats why one third of team america's edit is about the rookie doing stuff for them two and trying to make a comedic edit.

simon's skiing also isnt anywhere near schiller's or cosco's

no, but if your a pro you need to asses the situation and detirmin if your opinion is going to actualy help or just create further problems.... Josh's input did not help imo

"Best video of JOSS, hands down. You guys slayed it" Jacob Wester, team Europe.

http://www.freeride.se/jacobwester/2010/04/18/team-america/

Pretty much sums up Tom and Simons frustration. You have peers saying it was the best edit, and the video goes on to win "Peoples Choice", then it places 4th in the competition. I'd say the judging process is very flawed. No wonder Tom,and Simon, are angry. Persnally I don't blame them one bit for releasing THEIR edit.

tom and simon may be pissed or actually may have been hard done by, but the fact is its jon's event u go to this event u play by the rules and that means u leave the edits to be released when they are supposed to be. Jon has every right to be pissed about this as people pay him to put their company out their with the edit and his website. But i dont think it needed to be handled on the internet bitching about each other just looks unprofessional and as if they are 13 year old girls at school fighting
