Tom Wallisch Speaks

My bad. I thought that the ski industry was great because skiers were all friends and didn't really give a shit about money and winning.

that was simply a terrible apology. If they would just give a true apology to Jon and stop whining, I'd respect them a lot more and I'd hope that other people would as well.

would you like some fucking knee pads while your down there?

jesus christ, they are just normal people. Its not like they were born under a full moon on a mountain top at midnight midsummers eve.

They have different jobs then we do. I couldn't do theirs, and I am willing to put a shit ton of money down that non of them could do mine. But all of us should act professional in our jobs. Something very few pro skiers seem capable of doing.

That sucks, both for Jon and the sponsors, as well as Simon and Tom. There such fun skiers to watch, and i'm so bummed that they won't be returning next year.Does anyone know about Alex?

I kind of feel where they are coming from here but I defiantly would not be disrespecting by posting the video on my facebook or saying you would not come back next year. I would be pissed that the judging was different than what I expected. All the hard work to make a banger edit not rewarded because of some confusion in the judgment. Like tom said it was as if "My friends a pro" would have won this year when last year it came in dead last. Something very similar happened at a video contest at my mountain and I was pretty pissed. However this did not stop my friend from entering the next month. The Mountain listened to what people had to say and the next month the rightful winner won. Im sure that the judging will be extremely explained next year and the event will be dope as always. This is why T Wall and Dumont (and maybe Schlopy, but I doubt it. he was just mad stoked to ski at such a big event) should get over it and be stoked they get to ski such sick features and attend such amazing parties. And I want to see them ski those joss jumps.

They are, for now at least. They just withdrew from next years contest to save some attention and humiliation.

anyone else think Tom and Simon lost money by not winning. I know most athletes get money from there sponsors/get more sponsors by winning contests. so i'd be ticked too if i lost for no reason. I feel they could be mad just like jon. it can go both ways. or maybe im just an idiot.

i do agree that the terms on which the judging was going to be done should have been publicized long before the contest even started. I also think, though, that whining about losing money on traveling expenses is bullshit. All of the other teams spent money as well to reach sweden, and to prepare for JOSS, and now, unfortunately, probably more money to find a way home because of that damn volcano, but they are not complaining. Spending money to compete, and risking not winning is an accepted risk of competition. So maybe someone had to say something about the judging, but nobody has to say anything about not making payback because they didn't win.

Tom was not an asshole in the first place. I mean, don't me wrong, I am extremely dissapointed in everything that went down with the edit and i guess being a douche to Jon from what i have gathered, but i have met him and skied with him a couple of times and he was a super cool, nice guy. This whole thing seems really strange for him (and simon, but its understandable for him) to have done.

and thats where the problem is. They need to step back, and look at how far skiing has come. To the point where they get to hit a amazing features by day and party by night. 10 years ago there was no money in skiing, there still isn't much compared to other sports, but for an event like JOSS to happen is amazing. They said they came out of it with nothing, after all their "hard work". Filiming, editing and skiing is not work to most people on this site, it is what they love. That event is an experience of a lifetime From what I've seen in his videoblogs, Jon works pretty much year round for this contest to happen and for them to disrespect him like that, is absurd. They honestly have no argument saying they didn't, because the instructions were pretty clear. They say that they took it off the empire site, but then they post youtube links all day. I'm sure Simon knows what it's like to organize an event, and the dumont cup would probably be easier to organize. I'm sure he'd be pissed too, if somebody disrespected his event. Not only does Jon have to build the jumps, but he has to arrange lodging, awards etc, etc. Its sad that the skiing community has drama like this, but if I were Team America, I would delete that apology and write a real one. This must suck for Jon.

All this drama on one of the most holy days of the year? Can't they just smoke a joint together and get over their enormous egos?

When Jon and Simon worked together on the north american open, it was blatently obvious who the brain and muscle of the operation was. Jon worked his ass off organizing and shaping the jumps. Simon was there as a novelty.

And saying "I'm sorry but...." means that you aren't sorry at all you cocky fuck you're just trying to save face

yeah he probably shouldve waited.. but he wanted to get people stoked about seeing the edits.. contest shouldve been about the skiing more than the video work.

ok fuck tom and dumont prissy little babies grow the fuck up u are complaining to all your tweener fans to complain about how u didnt get first really there a people starving all over the world and you guys ski every god damn day, not only that but on the best features in the world and you got to come out here and complain about not getting first what the hell suck it up and be gratefull for what you have.

Haha I would like to hear where Alex Schlopy stands in this whole mess. Tom only tagged simon to that whole letter or whatever that was. Definitely wasnt an apology but I totally agree with him on the whole judging part.

Hey guess what Tom/Simon! Everyone else was working their asses off at that event, Jon included. What makes you guys think you are above all the other teams, and have the right to break the rules and release your edit early.

The little respect I had for Simon Dumont and Tom Wallisch as people has completely gone after this. As skiers they kill it, but they're douchebags.

the judging criteria could have been more clearly outlined though. I mean when the film makers came into this comp all they could look at was what had won in the past, which was an intro to the riders followed by porn. Ibergs judging of filming, editing, graphics and sound design was really good but it would have helped if the teams knew thats what he was looking for. They probably should have had a meeting about it the same way the judges do at at a slope or big air when they talk to the riders about what they are looking for. Canadas movie is super sick though and it definitely makes me want to go skiing.

Who do you think paid them for going to Joss? they dont get anything extra for this and you have to fly your filmers out there.

if they are saying they had no bad intentions against the event i dont see why they wouldnt return next year

theres definitely something were not hearing

u dont hear rookies complaining about it like schlopy cost them money too. Some people are willing to make sacrifices to just have fun skiing and partying with friends not living and dying on winning

that was pathetic, i cant believe wallisch responded to jon with that. I no longer respect that kid. Jon is a legend and has been for a long time now. I'm glad to see people taking jon's side in this. dont fucking disrespect jon or his event by telling us "not to worry, you wont be coming back."

I am STOKED reading all of these posts in support of Jon. He is one of the absolute hardest working people in skiing. Sure he may not be perfect, but who is? He is trying his best to make an event work flawless. Anytime there is judging you will have someone who disagrees with the criteria or the result. But that doesn't mean you go and break the rules and piss on the organizer of the event.

The Tom/Simon leak shows a complete lack of class and intelligence. The leak is not surprising from Simon -- his ego is ginormous and he already thinks he is above all others. But it is surprising from Tom. I see this as a turning point in his career -- a turning point in the wrong direction. Big mistake, Tom. Maybe, just maybe, you can salvage some of your reputation if you distance yourself from the remarks and issue a true apology. Otherwise you're written off in most people's eyes.

sounds like some folks (namely Twalls and Simon) are loosing perspective on the sport here. Just a quick trip down memory lane here. I remember when simon was WORKING to get shots into the PBP movie, just super stoked to be skiing (in fact his first season hit the cutting room floor. watch the credits of happy dayz.. Twalls is even newer to the game. It wasn't that long ago that skiing was struggling to get the dollars to put into events like this. The original newschoolers like J.P. Auclair would have killed to have events like this going on in his prime. Instead they were hanging out on couches, eating Kraft dinner in order to go film sick seggies and get to ski all day. That's the point that people like Andreas H. hasn't seemed to have lost. That love and awe of skiing. I would hope that's what Jon had intended for this event. Allowing young dudes the opportunity to hit stuff that would make most people shit themselves, and have a blast doing it. I agree that the prize money doesn't matter here. It's fucking peanuts compared to what these guys make annually. and so what if you didn't win. At your age Simon, you should have the presence and maturity to model some fucking restraint, despite the fact that you aren't happy with the results. It's a little thing we here on newschoolers like to call "growing up." I know I don't know the whole story, but in order for the story to have gotten this far, it's seems a few pro skiers have gone alittle too far into la la land and need to hear the reality. YOU ARE LIVING OUR DREAM. WHEN YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT IT, YOU ARE BEING UNGRATEFUL AND GET NO SYMPATHY FROM US. GROW UP TEAM AMERICA.

word , andreas is always so happy and stoked doesnt give a shit that sweeden got dead last neither do any of the rookies they were willing to put down cash to go ski and have a hell of a time like lj schlopy , sherpa, matt walker congratulating canada those are the real skiers

It seems like Wallisch and Simon have the right to mad about the judging cause it seemed unorganized and whack... although they did act foolish and should have written a more formal apology instead of blaming jon. You are completly ignorant if you think any of the money that was used to expense this event was from jon's pockets. I would be saddened if simon and todd did not attend joss over this drama bullshit and on the other side if jon did not allow them to attend. Didnt simon win this shit a few years back?

FUCK THIS DRAMA SHIT... LET'S SKI!!!!

That was intense to read, but first off i think that simon should just be grateful that he can go to such a great event, and i think that team america could have just given an apology to jon and worked it out like that. But i also think that Jon should not have made that blog post and just talked to team america.Had this drama not been created, no body would even care about the leak. Simon needs to chill and so does Tom...No one should ever forget, your here to ski and thats it and whatever happens doesnt matter since you at least were lucky enough to ski!
