good to know that you only think it's worth doing if you have something to show for it. You might have put lots of "work"*** into your edit, but Jon definitely put more work into this event during those two weeks and now he is the one who has nothing to show (at least on the day your edit should have dropped.) I think it is totally fine to voice your opinion on the judging, that can definitely help improve it for the future. Heck, I remember Jon was upset when Simon beat him at big air. He complained about the judging, but didn't act like a complete tool because of it. Posting the edit early was very immature.

I do not know any of you guys, most of us don't. We form our opinions on you from what we can see you doing. Right now you guys seems like spoiled brats. Jon is not innocent from this image either, I mean he skipped out on big air this year. Jon however told the world that the jump was actually working well for others, and it was nothing but his fault for not competing, I really respected that. You guys however both need to man the fuck up and release a public apology, not a short one filled with excuses.

I remember back when skiing had no money and how awesome it was to look up to the pros. Some pros these days have definitely let fame and money get their heads. There is a reason I have posters of TJ, Bushfield, JP and Tanner on my wall. These guys just seem to be always genuinely stoked on skiing. TJ gets into X-games in like last place, everyone else is complaining about the course. What does he do? He pulls his balls out of his torso and wins. When is the last time you saw Rory Bushfield in the X-games? I think it was when they had to make it a big air comp and he went for broke with a switch double back, I am pretty sure he didn't leave pissed off and with "nothing to show" oh yeah I think TJ kept his head clear and won that one too. Hell even Tanner Hall can make a true apology after his drunken kanye west style comments.

I am ranting right now so I am just gonna stop, sorry for the messy writing I definitely need to touch up on my english.

spark notes: Simon, Tom step back and take a good look at yourselves. If you truly think that going to Sweden was a waste of time and you are upset that you "have nothing to show for it", then please just stay home next time. There are tons of kids who would be more than happy to take your place and I am sure we would see better edits from kids who are stoked to be there and not just "working"

Hey, If you put a lot of time and effort into a contest only to see your edit get out-judged by a comedic, less quality edit, I think you would be angry, too. Im not saying that Canada didnt work as hard, but the bottom line is that the judging of a major contest like this should be judged on SKIING, not laughs or fancy editing. Now if Jon wants to do something like Cold Rush Re-Cut, that would be amazing, but the judging should be based on skiing, a mix of features. Editing is important, but it shouldnt be more important that the skiing of the riders.
 
incredibly lame excuse. they're ruining part of the event and showing disrespect to Jon because their unhappy with the judging. pathetic. They should man up and give a real apology to Jon who's been working his ass so they could hit the best jumps ever. Until then I've lost all respect for Tom and Simon. They did wrong and they know it.

 
This letter just seems like slap in the face to Jon, just like posting the video. Remember that all of the other teams did not win and post their videos. Just because Team America (minus schlopy it seems) doesn't like the judging and does not want to come back, it does not justify potentially ruining it for everyone else; whether directly intentional or not. This letter is pretty much saying, "sorry but I'm not sorry." This loses even more credibility for Team America. If they believe the judging was off and other stuff, just come out and say it and stick to their beliefs instead of sugar coating it in BS of half-hearted apologies.

What really sucks is that Tom really was the posterboy for enjoying shredding no matter what all the time. When he comes out and says that they didn't get anything out of JOSS because they win, he makes it seem like he did not have any fun skiing/progressing with fellow skiers and that makes me lose a bit of respect for him. In the end, although it is their jobs, skiing to enjoy the sport is the number one priority. If it's not, try a career change.
 
It also needs sponsors in order to gain the funds to run it. So by releasing edits all over the place will reduce the amount of views Jon will get on his site thus lowering the 'proof' of how popular this event is within the ski world.
 
How I see it is people were upset with the judging last year so Jon changed it up this year and now people are upset again so Jon will probably change it again next year to make it more fair.

Honestly this whole online bickering seems very unsportsmanlike and very unprofessional which is what Jon, Wallisch and Dumont are supposed to be professionals.

This whole thing could have been solved much better on both sides but meh love skiing
 
I have lost alot of respect for dumont and wallisch. They need to grow up and should be happy they were even invited. Now not only will it be their loss for not returning, it will be the skiing world's loss for not being able to watch their awesome edit next year. Wallisch and Dumont I'm disappointed in you.
 
So you've seen team Canada's edit, and from your perspective, it's "less quality"?

JOSS is about taking ski filmography to a higher art. The winners usually catch shots that are completely unique and mind blowing. They use para-gliders, helicopters, basically anything they can to get those shots that just make the viewer's jaw drop. They transform skiers into Super Heroes. Jon knows exactly what he wants JOSS to be and he is not trying to model it after any other comp. Maybe the judging can be tweaked, but as long as all the teams were judged based on the same criteria, then it's OK. If you judge it based on the degree of difficulty of the trick, it will just be another Dew Tour event of X Games.

I mean really fuck that Simon and Tom (I keep schlopy out of that) worked super hard, they had to go in Sweden, which is far from their house, ski the sickest features with their friends, film, and party but not too late because they had to go ski the day after! Then after all this they don't even win! They got NOTHING out of all that, except a free trip in Sweden, and probably even got money from their sponsors for going there. I feel bad for them shit!
 
team america is weak, shit isn't right. even if you disagree with something, atleast honor your agreement.

That's complete bullshit that "Jon should be thanking them for coming". There are hundreds of skiers lining up for this event that have just as much of a right to be there as Wallisch and Dumont. Why are they acting like it is hard on them? "We worked hard for two straight weeks." Ya you fucking partied all night and skied perfect features all day. Poor you. They should learn to have fun for once. Skiing is not all about winning. Dumont and Wallisch are just butt hurt and they are too embarrassed to come back next year. I would much rather see Hornbeck/Bobby B/ and Scholpy there. They would actually appreciate it. /rant
 
on and sweden are both gay its team americas video and there skiing they can post it if they want to and hell they dont have to come to joss next year. FYI skiing will not be the same without simon and tom and neither will joss. you know why they did it its cause america is a bunch of bullys yeah i said it you know why america is bullies its cause our economy is bad. yeah not like jon ollson driving lambos and shit fuck jon and everyone that is not american or an alien.come on let me get the hate.

I think they are voluntarily saying that right now, because they don't want to look like the losers when they wouldn't have gotten invited next year anyways. This is just really immature, ya the judging sucked, but that doesn't make it right to bitch and release your edit before agreed.

You did'nt get anything out of it? I was there and watched a few sessions and everyone seemed to have so much fun, while shaping the jump all the riders jumped a small sidebooterjump that HH made. Everyone laughed and had fun. That is what makes me jealous of all the riders, they are with their closest friends having fun in good weather.
So that is what you got out from it, having fun with your friends.
I'm from Sweden so I cant express myself that good, but i think fuck Simon and Tom is enough. I hope they are proud of them self knowing that they lost respect from many of their biggest fans.
I remember jon inviting Tom to JOI about three years ago, that must have been the coolest thing ever for him, just beeing invited. And now he is bitching about not winning. Imbarrasing.
And for those who says that Canadas edit is unserious and sucks, wait before you see it. They didn't won best trick or urbans or something like that. But their movie had it all in a perfect mix. It was funny, had good skiing and great filming and editing. So see it before you judge them just by rumours.
And once again, Im from sweden so sorry for bad spelling.
 
i wish everyone would release their videos because i don't want to wait to see them all.

By leaking the edit they just fueled the fire, making it available for all the little NS kids to watch before its supposed to be released....what did you expect would happen? Why cant we all just grow up, be patient and wait for the edits, I dont get why wallisch says, "we worked so hard, you should all see it asap" that doesn't make any sense. I'm sure everyone else worked just as hard. I mean, they obviously weren't happy and just said fuck it, lets release this shit and be done with JOSS...thats a lame copout, but I don't know, I didn't compete and they all have a better perspective on the event, but as a fan of skiing, I just think its childish...I watched the edit and it was fucking dope, but I could have waited until it was supposed to be released, still be stoked on it and not have to read these drama filled threads...

I'm not against Tom or anyone, I'm actually on their side. But honestly, Simon and Tom do you think that loading your JOSS video on Empire.com where it is easily downloadable for two hours, and then taking it off is going to do anything at all? Might as well have kept it up there to piss Jon off even more. There's like 20 videos on youtube as it is...
 
What is all this BS hating for trying to win? Why would you enter a contest and not go into it with the mindset of performing your best, which for these guys would be winning? These guys earn a living from events like this and if they feel they lost because of how the event was judged they have every right to be frustrated.
 
Hate to say it, but Jon has bitched and moaned in a public forum about judging before... quite often... mostly Xgames and City Comps preseason....

Just saying... i'm on nobodies side... its all a gay situation.
 
It is their careers, there's a difference however between frustrated and immature.
This is all real bullshit. Once all the other edits drop everyone will forget about it.hopefully.

Here is what i think happened with the judging. canada won the overall impression category, because the edit that the made (from what i have heard) was funny, and interesting to watch. this gave them six points, since that category counted twice. Im pretty sure that they won the filming category as well, because tem norway won the other three categories, and canada needed nine points to tie for first. Since they won the most important category (overall impression), they won the contest. This allowed them to win the contest without even placing in the skiing related categories. I really think that canada winning was almost an accident, they just got lucky because of the way the judging was set up. I dont think that jon, or the judges were really even looking for an edit like canada's to win. It was just an unintended result of the way the judging was set up. If the judging had been the same as last years, canada most likely would have placed much lower, and a more "serious" edit would have won.
 
pro skiers are such babies. wallisch talking about filming for two weeks and having nothing to show for it. hitting the sickest features, partying in sweden chillin with homies and slayin european bitches sounds like a like a shitty time to these guys. then you got jon constantly complaining about something that doesn't please him. everyone complains about the weather when in reality its not that bad. grow some balls and enjoy what you guys got to experience the last two weeks. sound like a bunch of spoiled bitches.

Being pissed about the judging is OK. Making comments about the judging is OK. Releasing a video when you have been instructed not to by the event organizer; not OK.

I am done with the half dozen or so threads on this topic at this point. Hope it does blow over and that all this turns out to be a publicity win for Jon and next year's JOSS.
 
I'd like to see Jon, Dumon, and Wallisch in the same room discussing the situation. Until then I have no business speculating who was more wrong or right.

I will be waiting for simon and Twall to post up their footage of this year movies asap, cause we don´t deserve to wait....
 
guys,

1. it is a lot easier to critique some one elses actions than practice what you preach. none of you guys can back up what you are saying with actions.

2. These guys are on a totally different level for you. being at a contest like joss is normal for these guys. What people in here say they'd be totally appreciative of really isn't too big of a deal for some of these guys.
