Tom Wallisch commentator at the 2011 X games

why wouldnt they do this in other years?

i mean i always enjoy seeing sal masakela sitting on a couch in snow

but this makes so much more sense

good shit x games

Let me see if I get this right....

Next up is the man from Breckenridge, Colorado Bobby Brown! Bobby has been talking all week about how excited he is to defend his gold medal in Ski Slopestyle this year at Winter X. I've seen him practicing this week, and he has been on a mission. Armed with his switch, or backwards, double misty 1260, that's two inverted flips with three and a half rotations, he'll certainly be looking to repeat with another gold medal at Winter X-Games 15.

How was I? On a scale of 1 to Douglas?

Colby James West would KILL it. Twall could be good too, but Colby is infinitely faster on his feet when it comes to saying things when they need to be said... it takes someone who is extremely quick of mind (and wit is good too) to commentate well, and Colby West is the quickest there is, among pro skiers. Tom, though an awesome skier, does not compare.

colby would be great im not saying he wouldnt im just saying since wallisch has nothing to do have him commentate

Regardless if he's the pretzel man or not, if I had to listen to some terrible shittsburg accent the whole time there's no way I'd watch it.

yea but i dont think they should "dummy down" the language for out of the loop people to understand. I mean explaining why its called a 'double cork" about 50 times during the big air comp is enough if you ask me. I think it would be cool to use the correct termonology, and Tom would definetly know what hes talking about. And theres talk about his sentence structure and vocabulary, i pretty sure hes not an idiot, attending college, he would probably do fine

Tom hasn't spoken like that for a while now, not the ever really did. He's grown up a lot, and is actually quite eloquent.

In honesty though, I should do it. I know what stuff is called, have good diction, and annunciate

yea but i think it would be more depressing for him to not even be there or just watching from the sidelines. this way hes still kinda a part of the action. i think this is a great idea but i dont know how we could make it happen

thats pretty cool man. would like to do ur job for a day. seems fun

and yea i agree with the OP tom would be able to describe the action way better. he knows what hes talking about... the athletes always know more than commentators

yah thats wat im saying he would kill it, now some one with power needs to see this thread and be like shit thats a good idea.
^to the above commentI always wonder wat he thinks to comments like that as well

i agreed with the OP until I read this. Colby for sure.

Also, for whoever suggested Martini, did you listen to him in Revolver? No mic for him.

Tom may have the knowledge of skiing necessary to be a commentator, but I doubt he is as experienced or eloquent at public speaker as Luke. Just because you know what your talking about doesn't make you a good talker.

Thats like comparing the guy selling peanuts in the crowd who isn't getting any business to an injured Tom Wallisch.

I like Uncle E and Mike Douglas, but if I had to choose someone else LVV would be the best. He obviously knows what he is talking about and he is way more experienced than the other guys and is pretty good at talking

Sounds like someone needs a history lesson. Douglas might not be the hot shit now, but he certainly was back in the day. Instead of saying Ew, maybe just try "thank you." As in "Thank you for helping to pioneer the sport I love now." or "Thank you for inventing several of the tricks that put newschool skiing on the map" Like the "D-Spin" (Short for Douglas Spin, by the way). Granted, he is not as young as some of the other riders that are doing things these days, but he's also not out of touch with what it's like to be inverted over big jumps, or the feel of blind landings, etc. He knows what he is talking about, but he also understands that he has to relate his commentating to a crowd of 40 somethings who are watching the X-games along with their kids. So does it get lame at times? Yes. Is that intentional? I think so. I think it would be nice to have a Tom W. or Luke V. along with someone who has had a lot of experience commentating and could keep the dead space filled. Best of both worlds.

i have nothing against md he straight brought the sport to wat it is today and he knows exactly wats going down and still is a nasty skiier

Luke Van Valin does the live commentary at x if I am not mistaken, whilst uncle E and Mike D do the Tv. Why change it up, only person who fucks it all up is Sal Masakela
