Tom Wallisch and Verizon?

Warning, stupid thread, but still wondering nonetheless: I saw the logo on his helmet, and was wondering: Why does a cellular company want to sponsor a freeskier?

Energy drinks, skis, outerwear, headphones, maybe cars make sense, but I'm not understanding this sponsor....although I get every bit of money helps.

Ideas, explanations?

Why wouldn't they. TW is going to be on TV a ton in the run up to the Olymoics, not to mention films, Dew, and X. I would bet the amount they pay him is nothing to a company the size of Verizon.

I'd say cell phone providers (especially ATT and verizon) make a hell of a lot more sense than cars.

They sponsor wallisch because they think they can use him to cell phones. I mean, that's how all sponsorships/endorsements should work.

Shoutout to Torin doing things big with poptarts.

Just a note about the olympics. Athletes aren't allowed to have sponsors during the olympics and a certain period around it so sponsors have to act now to associate the athletes with the brands before the olympics in hope that during the olympics and the sponsor blackout, the cosumers will associate them with the brands. Also, whoever wins the gold is about to have their stock value go up like cray.

toms been with verizon for like 3 or 4 years now, always thought it was kinda wierd but good for him probably makes a lot from them and free phones

Because he is an adspace for them. Same as why people are sponsored by Target or any major company not directly involved with the sport.

this is whats gonna happen when freeskiing gets involved with fis and the olympics soon riders will be getting sponsored by visa and it will all change

Oh certainly, publicity is good, I just would have never guessed Verizon Wireless as a sponsor of Tom Wallisch, haha.

I tried to look for it but it seems the video is now private but there was a commercial while the X games was on with Tim Wallpaper and a casio phone and he proved how durable it was by landing on it while doing wallrides and grinds etc. => phone marketing through freeskiers. Also alot of companies could sell their phones camera to people by doing ads surrounding taking pictures/videos of skiers and sharing them or some other marketing thing marketing people like to show about their phones.

Jeeze, it's like the concept of having an agent line up awesome deals is a complete mystery to you kids... that's all it is, YAAAPS.

Or I'm providing the most knowledgeable answer in this fucking thread. Funny how jackass kids like yourself thinks that I'm trying to "troll". Turn off your computer, take a step outside, enjoy nature and then suck down the business end of a hunting rifle.

as stated before, big name companies have been sponsoring skiers for a while now. look at target, dumont, he had target logo gloves like 6 years ago. and tom has been with verizon for quite some time now.

its all about marketability with athletes. props to companies like target and verizon for actually taking notice to the sport of competition skiing. slopestyle is going to become more mainstream, but i dont think you'll see them sponsoring guys like Sage and Pettit any time soon...

For Tom: do they pay? Does he get perks (free phones etc)? If so, it's a good deal for him

For version: do people look up to Tom? Does he have a chance at doing well in the Olympics? Does he offer an opportunity to get their name plastered on the screen at major events/tv? If so, it's a good deal for verizon
