The IOC is just forcing it this year to fulfill their TV contracts with networks. The Japanese people are being used as pawns in a game that they cant even attend.
As for the vibes around town and what it's actually like being here..You wouldn't even know that the Olympics is happening in town. Nobody is interested because there is basically no reason to be. It's as if the Olympics were taking place in Egypt or something rather than literally just down the street.
I was in Yoyogi park all day today - literally a 15-20 min walk from the stadium and it was just like any random Tuesday. Walked down to Shibuya for dinner and it was as normal as you could ever imagine.
This whole thing is so surreal haha fuck

But...
Just thinking out loud...
Skateboarding seems like the most un-olympic thing ever.
And I say that with the most love and respect for skating as a non skater.

Also this is a far-cry from Dream Teams of yesteryear. Absolutely some serious pieces missing. No Curry. No Lebron. No Kawhi. They have Durant and Booker and Lillard and that should be enough, but Still, the team is missing the best players in the league...
That, and also some of the absolute best players in the League are not from the USA. Giannis is Greek. Jokic is Serbian. Doncic is Slovene.

I don't care who you are, do you know how many people would have given anything to have the opportunity to perform in her place. You're a goddamn Olympian. Kerri Strug vaulted after tearing ligaments in her ankle, and you're saying you didn't even try because you were under stress? Fuck off, I can't think of something I've been more personally disgusted by in a long long time.

Yeah, I agree that the US women's gymnastics organization has been past fucked for a long time now, but can't you see how fucked up it is to go and drop out?

That alone carries huge feeling when being in a space you were sexually assaulted and having to carry a massive hype. These situations are why alternates are brought to the games. She didn’t take a spot, instead someone get to step it to hers.

And the common "fuck her" reaction to her decision is symptomatic of the wildly fucked up situation we've put her in. Again, she owes us nothing. We have no idea what's going on behind the scenes, what politics are being played.
Anyway, can we go back to laughing about MVP endoing off that drop because he didn't show up to practice, and then our lord and saviour Jolanda stomping the nose case to clean up in the rain?
14307402:BigPurpleSkiSuit said:Yeah, that's true, I forgot that alternates are brought to the games, so it's not like someone was missing out. I'm definitely overreacting because of the way I treated sports growing up. Especially as guys, we're taught not to show any kind of weakness at all, and compete because your teammates are relying on you at all costs. It's not the be all end all for life, and you're right that it's for sure a traumatic situation. In my opinion, after the whole Nassar debacle came out, the women's gymnasts should have formed their own organization and not participated in any events with US Gymnastics since it was clear they enabled that monster.
