Todd Akin: Legitimate Rape

While being interviewed by a local media outlet in Missouri, the republican candidate for senate said:

From Politico

"In an interview with a local Fox outlet, Akin suggested that the female body has a mechanism to prevent conception after rape.

“If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut

that whole thing down,” the six-term congressman from Missouri said on Sunday, before backtracking somewhat by saying he “misspoke.”

What should have been a very easy Republican pick-up seat is now surely safely Democratic.

watch the video, the guy actually tried to say that the female body has a way of preventing "legitimate rape"

what's even funnier is he is on the House committee on Science and Technology

And our vice president biden said Romeny is "gonna put you people back in chains."

People make mistakes, were only human. Grow up.

What he was saying makes sense too, not sure why people are freaking out, in the case of legitimate rape peoples body will prevent itself from getting pregnant. So when someone is legitimately raped, they most likely will not get pregnant. Versus if someone claims to have been raped (but there was consent) and might get pregnant they were not legitimately raped.

I guess I dont really understand what was wrong with his comment, seems legit to me.

yea, cause there are little signs in a girls fallopian tubes that say 'parties off' so the sperm know things aren't cool.

Did I say that? I was clarifying the words he said. He said he misspoke, All I did was clarify his original words in my own interpretation.

Excuse my hyperbole. What was going to be a very close contest and leaning republican is now likely to flop and lean more dem.

He really REALLY stepped on himself there, and it may be unrecoverable.

All of it, all of it was wrong.

Love all the conservatives running with this,

"uhhhh yeah.. He's right, despite the fact there is no biological evidence to support anything that he said, and in fact there are many studies that prove him wrong, we're sure that Akin knows something that medical professionals don't about the female reproductive system."

fucking #GOPlogic

it happens 32,000 times a year. this is the epitome of whats wrong with society in general, people with incorrect preconcieved notions or dispositions that they cling to blindly because they are too lazy to even the slightest bit of research or implore even the slightest bit of logic or rational thinking still get an equal vote. fucking loser.

Out of 683,000 rapes each year.... So what is that? 4% of rape victims? Thats a pretty small percentage.

Did you read the way I understood what he said? Cause Im not saying anything of what you just called me out for

Yes, you said that what he said kinda makes sense.

I'm not really calling you out, more calling out that horribly in-accurate statement he made.

Nah, just a statistic. Im not saying rape isnt horrible and ruins lives. Im just showing its unfair to post one side of a number. Trust me, I think rape is the worst thing ever, legitimately ruins lives. Playin devils advocate tho

He has until tomorrow at 5pm to drop out and be replaced, otherwise he remains on the ballot. NRSC states they will pull funding if he stays in. I suppose we'll have to wait and see what happens.

no Im not kidding you. the percentage is meaningless to begin with which is your first problem. your second problem came from either a) an inability to do the simple calculation or b) more likely you realllly think that single digit percentage is important so you incorrectly rounded down to bolster your case. if you were on the other end you would be rounding 32,000 pregnancies up to 40,000. so call it devils advocate or whatever but you're just trolling on a really low level

percentage pregnant means nothing in relation to a control variable such as non-rape pregnancies for the same amount of penetrations. 4%, 4.68% or whatever bear little resemblance to his statement that there are "legitimate" rapes which insinuates that there are illegitimate rapes. Which also relates to the term "forceful" rape which ended up in some (albeit DOA in the Senate) abortion bill that the House passed

you guys defending Akin/each other are just trolling, right? i mean, come on. y'alls are smarter than that, right?
