Tobogganing down a bobsled track...

So some kids snuck on to the bobsled track with a toboggan at COP in Calgary last night. Apparently while they were cruising down, they crashed into a gate that separated the bobsled and luge track. Two of the kids died and 6 others were injured. I know there are a bunch of Calgary locals here. Hopefully it wasn't any of them.

I've always kind of wanted to break into an outdoor waterpark and take a sled down the slides in winter, but this was a whole different level.

ohh shit yea I live in cochrane and saw that on the news, my mom has a friend whos kid knew them. She said that they can't officialy identify the kids who died yet cause there so mauled from the crash, the other kids are still in shock from seeing it.

look before you leap x9000

and i'm not being sarcastic or malicious or anything, seriously if these poor kids would have just scoped what they were doing first they might have lived to tell the tale. This is fucking tragic, two families loosing a teenager who just fucked up on a toboggan? That's horrible.

I have at least one friend that went to school with some of those involved apparently. Very tragic... But I have to say, I'm sorry, but at what point did that ever sound like a good idea? I don't want to seem harsh, but I mean...? Idk...

If people can get hurt or die on bobsleds that are specially designed for that kind of track then taking a toboggan down it with absolutely no steering or speed control just sounds like a terrible idea.

I feel bad for the families but I share little sympathy with those kids. That was not bad luck but rather inevitable.

Honestly thought it didn't sound like to bad of an idea in my head. Then I watched this video. Must have been so terrifying.

We've all made bad decisions when we were young and thought we were invincible, we learn from them, it's part of growing up. I feel sorry for them, I think they were maybe naive and didn't quite realise the risk.

No doubt about it, If they had watched the POV video above I bet they would have thought twice about going through with it.

I hope no one was pressured into doing it though.

I'm guessing they hit the gate at 1:10 in that video. Yeah everyone makes mistakes and doesn't truly understand or evaluate the risk and consequences very well.

This was a high risk, very high consequence stunt.

One of the 2 brothers that died went to my high school, i didn't know them. They were lifties at cop.

That sounds so terrible, poor kids who died, and their friends who are still alive and witnessed it. I wonder if it was 100% pitch black, or low light...

I personally think that sounds like a pretty awesome idea, in this case with some really serious/unfortunate outcomes. Maybe if they scoped it and figured out how to stop before the gate or start at it or something idk.

When I was like 15 I skateboarded down part of the Utah olympic park bobsled track or tried anyways, shit was SCARY, only to be kicked out moments later, only to see why later that day as I saw bobsleds training going like 80mph that would have flattened me

Very tragic but I have to say, how stupid were they to be doing that? Natural selection I guess

Get Sarah and JPs name out of your signature if youre going to be making comments like that. Theres no place for it here they were teenagers.

Ive heard it was a tradition for the liftys at winsport (COP) (the place it happened) to go down the track on pillows and flipped benches etc, there doesnt seem to be much risk if you go slow (even tho its fucking stupid) but the guys who went down the track after sneaking in didnt check the track before sliding down and there was a divider between the 2 tracks (luge and bobsled) that was in the middle and they hit it going pretty fast.

I had close friends who died in a drunk driving accident last summer and although I was extremely sad, it still made me wonder why the fuck they were so stupid to get in a car the drunk.

Oh my God, that's so sad. Praying for their families. Just bobsledding or anything racing on ice sounds scary af

So sad. One of the kids that got hurt in it went to my junior high school. He only had a couple minor injuries but he literally had to watch them die at the scene. They were all super smart kids too. Anyone saying they deserved what happened should seriously revaluate themselves. Have you never done something that probably wasn't the best idea?

my friend and I found some of the sleds for the alpine coaster at Ski Bowl and we bombed that shit in the middle of the night. This is just plain stupid though.

Been feeling for these kids and their friends and families all week. I'll be the first to admit ive done some pretty stupid shit in my teenage years...if alcohol was involved I hope it stays out of the media and their families can get on with grieving...RIP

ive heard rumours of people biking the whistler olympic track. not sure if its true or not, would be pretty insane. maybe with brakes and no ice on the track it wouldnt be so bad.

THIS IS AMAZING! I love this idea. We have a track just like this in Park City. I'll post up a video this weekend.

How are you joking about this? This is extremely sad. The parents lost two kids in one night. Think before you post

Dude, many parents lose kids in car accidents but it doesn't mean no one should drive.
