To rivet or not to rivet?

I have a question for you guys. I was looking at the new K2' and they are all rivetted. Does anyone here just rivet their skis from new to prevent a delam and does this effect warranty. My Skogens delamed and they replaced them no prob. I am thinking about rivetting the tips and tailes like the K2's just in case. I heard alot of pro have put in rivets in alot of different twin tips over the years. Is this a good idea and where would I find rivets similar in size to the K2 rivets? I have never seen them at the hardware store.

Thanks

I don't know for sure, but I would think that riveting them would void their warrenty. I would just leave them how they are, and if there are problems talk to the manufacturer. But thats my opinion only

Makes sense. I guess just wait to see if they delam then rivet them when they do and get a free pair. We have the technology to stop delamination lets use it!!!!!!

don't tamper with new skis. the rivets do prevent some delaming, if it occurs from the tip/tail down. about 5 years ago there was a thing about how to make your own twin-tips with a blow torch and vice, and that involved rivetting them afterwards. i woudn't think a professionally made ski would need re-enforcment rivets, especially the front tip, have you ever seen just normal top of the line skis de-lam from the tip?, if so, not very often at all.

the do protect against delam and dont screw with your lines.

what did they give you for warranty on you skogs?

Delam is always covered by warranty, so you should WANT your skis to delam. It'll get you a new pair every season for free.

pro might do it but they dont buy their skiis either, plus, wait till they delam, if company wont replace, then rivot them back together, some local shops might attempt it too

don't get lackety

I ride my skis until they delam then I rivet them for the rest of the year. At the end of the season I send them back and they always give me new ones.

actually, rivets will increase vibration on the tip tail part of the ski, wich is not that good for the core. Well, it doeswith snowboard so i ant seewhy it wouldnt with skis.

Still, rivets will surely prevent delaming

i had a pair of salomon 1080's. i skied the shit outta them and they wre dead. i was finishesd skiing one day and bam they were peeling apart. i showed em to my dad and he decided tha if i didnt figure out a way to keep em together i wasnt going to ski. i riveted it together and it fell apart and i got water in teh ski so they bubled.

my ski coach happened to work at sporting life so i took em in. he said that aint supposed to happen, and i got a free pair of armadas.

so what im saying is rivet ur skis after they delaminate and u get armadas out of it.

actually my Skogs delamed from the tip. It was jsut the one ski and it started to do it in the middle as well. I guess just a bad glue job. They said I could have the new 05 skogs but i opted for the chronics since i ski in the East mostly and the new skogs are big. I won't mess unless there is a problem. Thanks guys'

just so you know all of the rivets in all fo k2's skis are for astetcis for the most part, yes they do help aginst delams, but the k2s dont usualy de lam from tips, so basicly astetics, not function!

I just thought that the rivets on the K2s were just there to make em look punk

the only skis from them that i have seen with delaming tips were factory defects, though i have seen many from doing things like sliding rails, but genraly unless the ski is butchered they will replace them

If you make your own twin tips you should rivet, its the coolest ever! Cause they fall apart really fast, then you just put like six rivets on each end and BOOM. You're skiing for the rest of the season.

k2's rivets are vibration control, therefore they are not rivets. And no, i laugh at the people who rivet.
