To race or not to race

so next year im goin to be a freshman and my parents want me to play another sport beside lacrosse. since my school ahs a ski team that would be the obvious choice. the team goes up two or 3 days after school and races and practices. SO do you guys think i should race because my parents say its good becuz ill be varsity and thats good for a college resume. or should i not race and stick to lax and freeskiing and sports like blading and biking.

PS

(its not required to wear a race suit?race helmet so i can still rock the bad letuinet and jersey)

do whatever your heat tells you, not what stupid kids like me on an internet forum tell you

many people will say racing is gay, but racers are way better skiers than park rats. I bet u will learn a thing or 2, i raced for about 4 years and did freestyle team for like 2 and both were good learning experiences

it depends what you wanna do, racing is really fun and it shows you a totally different part of skiing, it helps your skiing in and out of the park...plus you can free ride a lot, and its also an excuse to go skiing, go for it

ur goin to wayne hills next year which is where i go and let me tell u this THE SKI TEAM IS A WASTE AND U WILL NOT BE ON VARSITY NEXT YEAR dont od its a waste of time my friends who r extremly good skiers didn't make varisty when they were frosh i suggest u dont do it evrey1 told me its a waste

it just comes down 2 how much u value skiing, and free riding, would u rather freeride a ton but not that many times, or would u reather ski a ton, and not free ride as much?

It will make you a better skier and give you a look into another facet of the sport. Do what you want, but I think it would be fun to at least try.

u gots 2 race. it will change the way you ski for life. it gives you a solid foundation and it makes you more comfortable on your skis. carving effecient turns is the essence of the sport. but dont just focus on racing. you got to do it all. look at pollard. he started as a racer and he still has more style than any other pro out there. racing will help you with big mountain, powder and everything else.

I was in ski team this year and it pretty much sucked. It wasn't really fun.The very best part was that My friend and I switched skis and I got a ribbon for 15th out of like 60 in a copper mountain slalom race. I was on someone elses troublemakers, with a huge coat and baggy snowpants and I beat most of the tight suit racers with thousand dollar skis. That was really satisfying. Other that that i wouldn't really bother.

well put. i think it is fun. its not really about the racing... at least for me. you meet a bunch of cool people that are interested in the same stuff as you and you just go have a good time. i would do it.

Honestly do it, it improves your technique sooooo much. You won't look like park skier wankers that skid all their turns and suck ass on big mountain anymore. Racing gives you the best technique, hands down. Seth Morrison, Jeremy Nobis (Olympics, World Cup), McConkey, Pollard all raced.

do it, it will help your overall skiing a ton. and they have air awarness drills with like big ass jumps in the course so that would help you with freestyle too

go for it definately, but do it to have fun and improve your skiing

don't take it too seriously. i've done a couple of race circuits on the shitty dry slopes over here in UK, and people turn up with fucking tents and workshops to service their skis...at the side of a 40m slope.

a few sprays of mr. sheen wins every time :)

man i use to race and it was way worth it. I became such a good skier because of it, and most of the guys like to hit the park too. We ushually would train racing in the morning, break for lunch and to switch gear, grabbed our twins and hit the park. It was soo chill and there were so many good times.

yeah do it. i used to race as well. and when my team did good, the coach took us to the park and tought us tricks. thats where i learned how to do a 5!

i used to race for my school. i d say do it. becasue you don t need to take it that seriously, and it puts you on the snow. i d rather be on snow all the time instead of just sitting around. and besides its always fun beating the kids who make fun of you for doing freestyle.

dude i got the same thing are u useing ur twins?

i aint buying a pair of raceing sticks all i will do is chill ski and when im not raceing practice butters and bail to the pakr

'haha

I started racing freshman year. it's fun. I've had a lot of fun doing it. everyone on my team is chill. we ski at a hill with about 100 ft of vert. no park. shitty snow. but hey, it is still fun. give it a chance at least. it can only make you a better skier. (even if you're a shitty racer, or don't like racing...more days on your skis = you become a better skier)

do it man, its ski time, and im do it also, exept our school team doesnt take it to seriously, there is no dryland, and its pretty much go light up and smoke for the day, but you get mad early dismisals from school

dude i race right now because i get to ski at like 6 different hills at least and i get to ski all the time, and 3 times in the park? maybe if ure a fuckin retard and dont try to make time, every lunch my friends and i would eat on the chair and hit the park, and no we oviously didnt wear suits in there i think there fuckin gay and only wear them on race days, but the point is I made tiem and i went there for about 1-2hrs a day

i raced for like four years mogul skiied for one and done one park season. before that i just skied by meself and with my parents till about age ten (started at three) and i see all these mother ....in park rats who think theyre better because they cant ski or let alone turn at all. all they do is speedcheck and shit. it ....es me off, cuz i saw freeskiing in Freeze about three years before buying twins. i waited and said i was gonna get my skiing rock solid before doing any of that shit. im fine now i can do so much more stuff and i can ski fast in powpow, do fives on the park kickers, and jib pretty well in only my first season trying rails. LEARN TO SKI OUTSIDE OF THE PARK BITCHES!!!!!!

Go for it. More ski days.

I'm a ski instructor at a local hill here, and we had this slalom set up. If its icy, don't try and ski it on noodles. I don't think I made it down the hill once. If only I had my Atomics...
