To NS Staff - RE: Best Humor

I didn't feel like responding in the already almost four page thread, so I decided I would start my own.

Dear NS Staff,

While I do think that the ESPN article was not the most insightful, I say who cares. What you guys have done with this site is absolutely fantastic. And, you don't need some low-brow writer to confirm that for you. You also cannot control the content of posts, nor the quality of your members. You've maintained a hands-off approach, and therefore the website takes on the personality of said members, for better or worse. I think it is what makes the site unique and invites it to have so many members. I imagine being on this website ten years from now when I have my own kids who are skiing.

Being a member of this site and the online ski community for a decade (wow I feel old!), I can say with authority that the site is bar-none the most thought-out and well executed in the ski community. I remember when it took a couple of days to get a decent response to a thread about gear. I remember when there were maybe 20 people buying or selling gear. And, I remember when watching a video was a privilege and a new feature that we needed donators for because bandwidth could hardly handle a dozen short edits. Now look at it: No donors needed, hosting of great up-to-date content, tons of videos and pics, reviews, contents... it is a storehouse of ski info!

So instead of being frustrated at the opinion of someone who may not appreciate what you've done, let's make this thread about the things we love about NS and the people who make it possible.

I'll start. I love that I have a place where I can come to ask about places and resorts I've never been to, and people from all over the country (and world for that matter) can help me find deals, restaurants, and great parts of the mountain.

lol just kidding, i agree with op, who cares what ESPN says, they also air the x-games so clearly they dont understand what freeskiing is all about

Like you said, I like how raw the site is. The content isn't filtered by paid writers. Sites like freeskier only graze the tip of the iceberg and deliver superficial news no one gives a fuck about.

logging on to newschoolers has made my day sooo many times over the passed few years...i dont need some retarded espn article to tell me that

i love the controversiality and rawness of NS. all topics are open for discussion for example the progression of women's skiing which would be considered extremely offensive on a site like ESPN. also, you get mixed opinions on the olympics, xgames, triples, and more which ESPN would obviously just take the positive side to all of those topics. it allows you to see things from a different angle, it is no media machine. NS opens your mind up.

also, the community we have here is amazing. people learning their first 270s off can contribute to any thread, but then so can ahmet dadali, parker white, and a bunch of other big time pros. the admins are open to suggestions from any member is site discussion and often the picture or video of the day is from some underground east coast rider who no one has ever heard of before. the site sheds light on the unknown skiers who otherwise would not get any attention at freeskier, ESPN, etc. take for example - sam hurst. kid isn't throwing double corks and doing more spins off of a rail than i can on a jump, but everyone on this site loves him and the way he skis.

I think they are right. While NS does have the best content of freeskiing on the face of the earth, and it has done a lot for the sport, this website is literally the 4chan of skiing. 70% of interactions on this website are ridiculous and silly. This however is not necessarily a bad thing. being funny is actually way better than being a "serious" ski website like Freeskier, and I actually enjoy how there is a melding of the two. NS is a place you can fuck around, troll, and mess with the psychee of thousands of 16 year olds and have no real repercussions. enjoy it for what it is and don't make this website such a big part of your life (*unless of course you run it and are involved with it).

i dont care we got best humor. actually im happy. but i also feel like we do have more news than other websites
