A sport, to me, is one that can be played. Therefore skiing isnt a sport.

you can't say that something that dominates the winter olympics is not a sport.. im not even going to argue this with you because tahts such a rediculous statement for example you cant play wrestling but that is deffinitly a sport and you dont play track and field and that was the first sport ever created

a sport is basically any streous activity or a game which sking is only part but as a lifestyle i guess you can live by a sking motto so i guess i would say its a bit of both

I consider it an exhibition more than a sport, but I dont really think it matters either way, most strenuous activites have competitive competion to see who is greater than who whether it is solo or as a team.

it makes me cringe a little when people call skiing a sport. Its way above petty sports. My father once told me that this old austrian codger said to him in a heavy accent, "Skiing esht not a shport, it ish a way of life."

well just freeriding in general is not a considered a "sport" persay but events like downhill, gs, slalom, pipe, skiiercross are sports cause they are competitions. thats how i see it

Well its not really the same. In English, you have to differentiate between the differnt types of play. In spanish(and probably other langauges) there are differnt words for "Playing" sports and "Playing" an instrument.

french also you use faire for "to do" like an instrument and jouer "to play" like soccer(football)
