To anyone who thinks it's too hard to ride pow in your park skis

ive skied 2 ft of snow with my park skis and its definitely do-able. The only time I ever really struggled was a massive storm in tahoe I think two years ago where there was around 3 ft. Definitely couldn't move haha

i guess no one has need any ski movies pre-2003/4 here. what do you think people use to ski power with, and they loved it just as much as we do.

 
I've had first track's down some of the best lines in Spanky's ladder before on center mounted jib sticks before & felt it was a waste of time. You need to ride back seat, and I was going as fast as I could down the steepest section, the floatation was maxed out, and I ended up getting past by a patroler linking powder 8 turns... I wouldn't want to ride anything under 108mm on a powder day. 185+Cm 110-130mm Sweet spot
 
Top trolling! But yeah like anyone who knows anything has already said, yes you can ski pow on park skis, but why would you want to? I've lived in Niseko for 4 seasons, I've skied pow on every type of ski, and park skis are some of the worst, I prefer my groomer skis because they are actually stiff.
 
of course it can be done but it isn't exactly enjoyable. Under say a foot it's fine, especially if it's light snow but above that it's just hard work. I'd far rather ride fat skis in the park than skinny skis in pow.
 
Who cares. If you're having fun, that's what matters.
My park skis now are wider than the first pair of "pow" skis I owned, but like others have said, it's not about "too hard", it's about it being way more fun.
 
skied fat powder days at whis on out of shape 171 anthems. all about that ski race background, grip and rip. tho shit is way more cash on my benchets
 
Well it was 120cm in one night, that actually makes like 4ft?

The lifts were closed that day. 2 weeks back in saas fee.
 
Well yeah, fair enough, I was still pretty young at the time. We don't exactly have an abundance of 'real' cliffs or pow on the EC. It does kind of proves OP's argument though. I was fine skiing spanky's and other steep shit on my park skis.
 
sorry but this is entirely true. lots of mountains were closed due to too much snow and avalanche danger.
 
East Coast park skier. Not true for all of us. my mountain is not big but, when I go out West the skiing only becomes easier
 
the bottom line is i dont know anyone who buys pow skis bc skiing pow on park skis is too hard...they buy pow skis bc they plan on riding a lot of pow thats what they are designed to do. its not about being hard its about picking the right tool. Why would you ride a park ski in pow if you can afford a pow ski? you wouldnt, thats why you have both. if you dont have the money then it shouldnt matter bc ur lucky to be skiing anyway and youll still have fun. I have pow skis and i use them rarely but for those days it dumps, I AM SO GLAD i can make the most of the weather
 
It's not just powder skis that make a difference. Some of the best skiers I know struggle in powder as they are Australian and never learnt how to ski it.
 
No it's not.

3ft is almost 1m. 1m of snow falls roughly once per season within 3 days...

Even last year, which was one of the best season in years we only had that magical meter 4x times.

So no, 1m of snow does not fall in mid October, period.

Most people simply overestimate the amount of snow they ski in.
 
i forget who said it earlier in the thread, but it's true. Its alot different riding park skis in powder in CA rather than say utah. The snow is just so much heavier, and its a true workout.
 
Dub post, but could you possibly generalize a bit more? You're not even from where he's talking about, so why are you being such a smart ass about it, you have no idea what kind of snow they got.
 
this, i had my level 3 exam recently in thredbo and our "bumps" run was in a bout 20cm of pow, i was one of the only people who made it down without falling (i credited a season on japan and 2 seasons in whistler for this) and im pretty sure i got one of the top mark for that particular run ( failed the whole exam by 1 fucking mark) and there were guys who passed the whole exam who told me on the chairlift they could barely ski it, they had never skied outside of australia. we were all on 170cmish performace carve skis
 
Dude you have no idea what you are talking about. Were you in the area? At 3600m a shit ton of snow can fall at pretty much any time of year if the storm is right. There was around 45-50cm in the village nearly 2000m below the top lift.

Also they just had 30 inches in West Virginia at the end of October, so your dealing in absolutes is bullshit.
 
why even argue in this thread. That one kid who posted the pic is a weener prob like 13 years old. If you cant ski pow on a pair of skis that is 90mm-100mm you fucking suck. So many kids in this site are horendous skiers. Just go to a mountain and watch the park rats attempt to ski. Outside of the park its pretty pathetic. Not even worth an argument with them
 
Are you talking about me? I was around 15 at the time and I said I had no problem skiing fresh with tiny centre mounted park, don't know where you read that I was having trouble?
 
one of my favourite days of last season was when it unexpectedly snowed 14" and all I had was moment jibs. i was sinking straight to the bottom. you can do it if you know how but if it had been super deep or wet it wouldn't have been as fun. as for stomping cliffs on park skis, it's a fuck ton harder.
 
what ever, im not gonna argue with you, i just looked it up on their website that morning and it said 127cm of fresh snow. Lifts closed. but if you work there, then you propably know better.
 
I've never ridden pow with pow skis (midwesterner here so ive had maybe 2 pow days in my life). Is it really that much easier with wider skis?
 
Yeah a lot of kids i know are awful outside of the park and aren't strong skiers at all, because they started when they were 16. Learning how to actually ski when you're young is the way to go, but riding pow on wide skis is soo much fun, I'd rent for the day if I had to
