To All Those Who Got New Skis...

FUUUCK

If you're one of those lucky kids who bought new side wall construction park skis, with glossy topsheets and poppin' grafix (yo). I have some dire news for you...

SKIS AREN'T INVINCIBLE

Even after your first day, your side wall and top sheet will chip, especially with those brand new shop tuned edges. You glossy topsheet will get scratched, a lot, might even crack a little here and there.

You might feel betrayed, the pro who rides these same skis said in an interview he didn't break a single pair all season. You might be bummed your new skis look like shit now. You might even go as far as make a thread to proclaim this injustice to the freeskiing community! (https://newschoolers.com/web/forums/readthread/thread_id/401064/)

Before you go and do that I have to let you in on a little secret. No one cares, this happens to everyone. You should also know skis are desposible, your edges will start to wear out mid season, eventually you'll see a few cracks and once the snow starts melting your bases will get scratched.

So please, unless your ski delams or your bindings tear out, stop making threads bitching about topsheet damage... it's really annoying. Stop worrying and ski.

Hahaha, took a look at the other thread and those skis are spotless!!!

Damn! I can see wood all the way down my skis, (Anthems) and i don't give a fuuuuck!

IT'S GONNA HAPPEN! DEAL WITH IT! - or just quit, that works too ya know (trust me, you won't put a scratch on em then!)

that guys in the thread you posted actually has a legit warranty claim. its a manufacturers defect and he has every right to bitch, its not simple topsheet chipping. use a better example next time...

thank you for making this thread. fortunately, yet unfortunately, my brand new bacons haven't been scratched yet because i haven't skied them yet...

when i get new skis and the top sheet chips on the first day i'm upset but after about 5 days on the skis i get over it and realize that if they arent chipping then i'm not skiing enough or not skiing hard enough

You forgot early season damage. i got an epic core shot today since coverage is.... sketchy to say the least at big sky. i stomped that 180 to rock landing though hahahaha

my new invaders bases are so chewed up right now, 3inch by 1 inch core shot filled it in with green ptex looks kinda sick

He was complaining about his glossy layer that protects the graphics having lines in them, and no that has never been under warranty on any skis I've seen do that. It doesn't affect the ski, they just put too much icing on the cake and it cracks under pressure.

Amen brosky. the first day you use new skis they're gonna get scratched and chipped up. Thats why sometimes, if you know who you're buying from, lightly used skis can be just as good as new ones for a lot cheaper.

yeah six days skiing and my topsheets are raped but who cares your skis are covered in snow the entire time youre skiing so no one sees them anyways. yeah it bugs me when my new stuff no longer looks new but hey thats just how it goes and im not surprised since i got armadas theyre like the chip kings

used my new skis for the first time today. just a frontyard rail session. my topsheet is already starting to chip. oh no.

thank you for finally saying thisi got some shiny new skis but i've been skiing my rock skis early season, common sense, right?rule of thumb: once you put your skis in the snow and ski on them, they are no longer new

To 416 I was told to finish the season on them then send them in for warranty so I am not out for 1 month.

ya i just got a new pair of skis and im going out agianst better judgement on low coverage just to get a few scratches and get it over with...like ripping off an old bandaid

You can reduce chipping by running a razor at 45 degrees along the edge of your topsheet and thus reducing the angle at which the sidewall meets the topsheet. Razor then finish with a medium file / sandpaper.

I am guilty... I made a thread asking about the structural reliability after the edges get chipped out easily among other questions... Wasn't complaining about the skis, just asking a simple question to those with more experience than me...

To be honest man, that sounds like a horrible idea. Dont think that will help your case when you contact them about warranty.

thank you! im tired of seeing threads about kids who had their topsheets get scratched the first day, and they dont realize that it happens to everyone

Think this is under warranty?

I definitely agree that there are too many kids that complain about chips and other stuff when it is normal wear and tear.

When it comes to this guys example however, it is a legit warranty situation, and I've already dealt with Salomon regarding this same problem with the 07/08 Arnie 5000 snowboard for a couple of customers. The defect is purely cosmetic, but Salomon has replaced them with 09 boards in both situations.

I would take the guy's advice to keep riding the skis until you have a month window, but I would definitely get a Return Authorization number now in order to document that the damage has already occurred.

Hope this helps.

yeah, fire in the back of my truck due to a carbattery being shorted out by edges of my skis, 5 pair toasted.

oh they will i guarantee itunless you ski powder with no a single bit of rock or iceeven then i guarantee they will mine did

i know what your saying, but you cant tell me that when you ride those brand new skis of yours, and they start to chip, althought they have no affect on your riding, it just makes the ski look somehat trashy. but this is just for the first bit, eventually, atleast for me i dont give a fuck. and yes, no more threads about it
