This week Snow Sport For Sheffield officially launched, I attended the press release. Anyone watching look north (regional tv news) may have seen me mit kamera. We have backing from Sheffield City Council, we have immense public support even beyond the petition. We have an optimistic level of support from the lease holder.
To clarify on the situation with the land - the area is owned by Sheffield City Council, but leased unconditionally. The current lease holder has applied for planning permission to develop. At the press launch he said that housing and ski village were not mutually exclusive, i.e. we could have both.
We have good reason to be cautiously optimistic. Although some of my friends seem to think this is won, we're far from it. Support from council =/= the millions of pounds required to redevelop. It does, however, give us far more leverage than we would have had.
There is far more hope now than when I posted this thread.
