TJSCHILLER.COM is UP AND HAS A SICK CONTEST

Yo Teej,

There was a picture on the home page of your website (sick site, by the way) in which you were holding onto the wing of Chug's airplane, and I was just wondering, what is the name of the orange gloves you had on in that picture, and where the hell can I get a pair? They're so ill!

I agree that there have been some instances in the past where companies have taken advantage of artists. That being said, the idea behind this contest was to involve newschoolers and artists in the process of creating TJ's new promodel ski - not to rip them off. This is a cool way for people to send in what they think is a rad design for a ski with the chance to have it featured on a pro-model and win a bunch of sick gear for the season. If a professional designer decides to send in a design to win some gear and make a legit addition to their portfolio, that is their choice. This is NOT meant to rip anyone off, which is why the fine print is there in the first place. I appreciate your input, but at this point we just can't throw a cash prize into the mix.
Keep sending those designs in, there are some sick ones! There should be an update on the site this week with some of the best designs so far.

And conversely thanks for posting an honest response.

I think it helps just to acknowledge the situation and state your stance.

That being said - thanks. It's now absolutely clear this contest is designed for amateurs looking for a chance to make it - not professionals.

Hope someone gets their big break!

Ok everyone - I`ve been on this website since it started out. I`ve seen the artistic talent and stoke level from all of you over the years. I worked with a SICK designer the last 2 seasons and was more than happy with him. This is something i came up with to try and involve everyone who loves what we all do. It is not a coreupt.com contest. Its my contest and i wanna give the designers on here a chance to show off their work and win some epic prizes. Think of this as the US Open of ski designing and a way to show your talents to the industry. If its money you guys are worried about - slang all the gear you win you`ll get a couple grand. I`m not trying to rip anyone off. The designs that have come through are epic already and i`ve already seen a couple i would be MORE than happy to rock. LETS HAVE SOME FUN WITH IT !!!

Really guys? As so called "artists", some of you guys sound like greedy assholes. Do you really think you are going to make a living making art and only selling that? Wow.......good luck.

This sounds like a sick ass contest, to bad Im not the greatest artist but I might have to try my hand at this. Im probably gonna draw it though on paper, I can get more creative and flowly that way.

By the way, here are the prizes, sounds fucking sick to me! over a grand worth of stuff! I dont' know of anyones art thats worth more than that, especially not mine.

What Can You Win?

After selecting the top entries, I’m going to hook up the final winner with:

* My full set-up supplied by Dragon, Skullcandy, Nike, Coreupt.com, POC, Monster, and Newschoolers.com

* Design featured on my new new pro-model ski, to hit the market in fall 2010

I’m also going to be awarding a ton of gear to the runner-up, most creative,

and a few other choice categories.

is there a limit to how many designs you can enter?

I have a few but I don't want to submit them if its one only.

I know, how dare talented people try and make an honest living in an area they enjoy working. I'm not saying the prize in this case isn't worth pumping out a quick entry, but you've got some pretty messed-up reasoning there man.

Where did I say I wasn't entering the competition? You need to settle down, man. The fact is, with the ubiquity of high-tech ski construction these days, often it's only the graphics that differentiate them from the competition. A high-quality design on a ski that brings increased sales merits a financial reward for the artist, just as someone who innovates in ski design to provide a higher-quality ski deserves a financial reward. The fact is, artists are frequently treated as a freely available commodity, and 'spec work' like this is ethically debatable.

well heres my entry i sent

i dont think i have a chance at winning cause its hand drawn but whatever, drawing it was pretty fun

this is what I entered. made up of entirely one life of ink. I changed ink when I got to the colored eyes and back when I moved on down. Started from upper right corner and ended with my signature in the lower right.

dude, that is such a rad idea. That had to take a lot of work, it would make a super sick for just a picture to hang on the wall. A ski design, i dunno, good luck though.

Its still on there website because i got it from them a few days ago.
On another note. If anyone wants the Coreupt logo in a illustrator file. I have it. Just pm me if you want it.

I dont get why people care so much about the company taking ownership of there design. The design is for a pair of skies and thats whats going to happen if it's good enough. Luckly I've been drawing long enough and have gotten good enough at it to know that when I give away my art I can just make a new one better than the last. I draw for the sake of drawing.

"this shit"? No, this is anything but shit. Deffs one of my favorite so far. Good Job! I would buy a ski with that. Colour scheme is awesome, design is awesome, detail is awesome. Fantastic.

What I like about this contest is that there'll be more than just the "ski I picked" award. He's doing other awards too for prizes and shit.

Just have fun and submit something, you never know

Anyone looking to use an illustrator ski template, I have created one. If you want it just email info@tjschiller.com and I will send it off. For those who have already submitted designs and wanted a template, don't worry, it won't effect the rating of your design. You can still submit anything for the contest, doesn't need to be an illustrator file on a ski template.
Keep them coming. 11 days left.

We are going to try to do a post in the news with a bunch of the designs. It has been delayed a bit just because of the high number of designs we have gotten, but we will definitely post all of them at some point for everyone to see.

I think you have a sick design, but keep in mind that whatever that brown thing in the middle is, will be covered up by boots/bindings

Dudes & Dudettes !
Tomorrow is the LAST day for submissions. I'm in Barcelona right now and back home tomorrow - been checking all the submissions each day - This is not going to be easy. You guys KILLLED it. I'll be posting my top fav's on my site for you all to peep ! btw... holy shit - its winter!!!!!
