Tips to stop smoking

replace your smokes with gum.

when you go to the store instead of buying a pack of smokes buy a pack of gum and whenever you feel like you need a smoke just chew gum ya feel?

I feel like pickles could help. Don't really have an explanation for it though. Low calories. Phallic in shape (like a ciggy).

Just stop cold Turkey, it's not that hard.

And just use one of those web pages (or apps) that shows you how much you have saved not smoking.

So I smoked for about 5 years and then stopped smoked for the last 8 years (yes I am older then 15). The first time I stop I didn't it cold turkey but didn't have a goal. Ended up dipping a lot and then started back up. Recently on Easter I have it up again. You need to be ready to stop, if you are then that us the first step. Next you need a goal, mine is I running a tri in Aug. So I knew I couldn't train and smoke. Make that goal, maybe you want to earn turns somewhere or you want to run a marathon... Do it cold turkey you need to, using e cigs or the patch only prevents you from stopping. If you have the will power you can do it. If you end up smoking a cig or two I'm the first week or 3 don't worry it is normal just don't get back on it. I went out with a buddy got drunk and ended up smoking like 5 or so cigs. Felt horrible about in the morning told myself never going to do that again. And haven't since. You also need support from friends and family. My wife and family are my support. The cravings are horrible the first couple of weeks they start slowing down later on. Don't give in do something else like chug water think get up and walk around. Smoking is routine you need to break that. The cig after you eat or when you drink. Do something else, take up running or biking. You are bound to be around smokers deal with it. I used to go out with my boss everytime he smoked to get used to people smoking around me. It was hard but you get used to it. Good luck. Hit me up if you need any more advice or support

You have to want to quit, truly, in order to be successful.

Quit your favorite cigs first.

Don't smoke when drinking.

Just remember your goal is to actually quit, so every time you smoke another - you're fucking up the results.

Not true.

If your urge to quit is greater than your urge to smoke, you can push through it. It sucks, but you can do it. The harder it is to quit, the happier you're going to be once you have quit, and the less likely you are to start smoking again.

I started smoking regularly at 14. I quit cold turkey at 21. I'd tried stopping before, but that was the only time it stuck with me. Knowing that I could have a smoke if I really wanted one, kept me from smoking. I wanted to be a non-smoker more than I wanted to be a smoker.

this for sure. you have to want to quit and be a non smoker. smoking is nasty - i smoked for 15 years before i gave it up. best choice ever.

no, you should put yourself in those situations to show that you're strong enough to overcome them. not subjecting yourself just makes you weak to the situation.

cold turkey and dedication is the only way. i've done it twice. i failed after 3 years the first time because my brother and sister were in a gnarly car wreck and were lucky to escape alive. going solid on two years now and have no cravings or desire to smoke

I'm not a smoker but I have a friend who was able to quit by doing this. I thought she made up this method, I didn't know it was like a tried and true thing.

Anyway good luck OP/anyone else trying to quit

I feel like you just gotta hit that point where you decide that for whatever reason this isn't gonna cut it anymore. For me, it was making me feel tired, gross, smelly, it was expensive and really ... fuck big tobacco ... but the only way I actually was able to quit was getting super sick and not having the energy or desire to drag my sorry ass down three flights of stairs to have a smoke.. Once you pass the three day mark, the majority of the chemical addiction has passed and it becomes about changing your habits... I won't lie, it's been about two and half months and I still crave a smoke every day but at this point, I've come so far and it was SO hard to quit that I don't think I'm ever going to go back .......... but, I also think that once you're a smoker, you're always a smoker ... and when you quit, you're just a smoker who's not smoking anymore.

If you're the only one smoking it, weed can last far longer than a pack of cigs.

My last two slices each lasted me two weeks, smoking everyday, twice a day. Just a pinch in the bong, get a couple rips, and you're set until later that day.

this. the more complicated you make the quitting process the more you will be able to rationalize slip ups and start bumming smokes all over the place. if you want to quit, quit.

although for me i smoked spliffs for like 6 months after i stopped smoking cigs. you can only have so many a day and you're sharing them usually, and as time went on i put in less and less tobacco until i was barely sprinkling any on and then i just decided to stop completely

If you are really serious look into Chantix. It is by prescription and the side effects can be gnarly (crazy dreams, paranoia, etc.) but it has worked for everyone I know.

as dumb as it may sound, ive been able to use chew to stop smoking. When i was smoking cigs, i had to have at least 3-4 at a time at least twice a day. so about a pack every 2-3 days since i was 15, im now 19. I decided to chew to at least get rid of the odor and secondhand smoke, but also to try to slow down. I use pouches, and at first limited myself to one a day. I've been able to get to about one pouch a week, and im about to try for 1 every 2 weeks. For me its easier to substitute gum for chew, rather than gum for cigarettes. I hope within a few months i won't be using any tobacco.

2 day fast. For whatever reason if there is no food in my stomach i hate smoking. The worst of the cravings are gone by 3-5 days.

This is supposed to be funny and it includes a doll. Hope it doesn't offend anyone.

Best way I found was patches. They get rid of your cravings all day so its supper easy to not want to smoke. Breaking the habit of going for a smoke is half the problem so if you can get rid of the desire to smoke its much easier. You can ween your way down on patches to. I tried cold turkey but patches make it so much easier.

going cold turkey is the hardest, but most surefire way to go.

if you want to make cigarettes so disgusting to you that you never want to have one, try ripping off the filters of your cigarettes. then when you get the urge to have one, smoke it, but put the end that you would normally light, in your mouth, and light the end where the filter used to be. It tastes really bad, and eventually you will get no satisfaction from smoking.

hope this helps.

I smoked for 8 years and then just quit cold turkey one day. Anyone that can't quit cold turkey is a little bitch with no will power. If you absolutely have to, use e-cigarettes until you no longer need them.

i understand that youre entitled to your opinion and all that shit, but ive never heard such a false statement in my life. spirits are great.

I quit via chantax. It was rough. I had plenty of failed attempts prior with patches and going cold turkey. The chantax had such rough side effects that after just three days smoking a cig made me feel like death. That helped me kill the routine I was in. If you want to go cold turkey you got to change up your routine. Form new habits. So hard to do I don't want to even explain..

My buddy quit using E-cigs. They have different inserts with lower nicotine levels so you can still smoke but ease yourself down. Then eventually you stop smoking all together.

if you did that to your friend everytime he tried to smoke he would stop very soon or just punch you very hard.....high risk high reward

Acupuncture works like a charm. Releases endorphins which tricks your mind into thinking that you are not craving nicotine. I am going on 12 years without tobacco products.

just replace the habit, i recently read a book on this actually.

so there are three steps in a habit - the trigger, the action, and the reward. all three are driven by a craving. you crave the cigarette, the trigger might be stress, or simply thinking about smoking, as a result of the trigger, you then light up a cig (this is the action) and as a reward, you get the head buzz.

you can't kill habits, but you can change them. the way to do this is to change the action. so from now on, whenever you feel your trigger (whatever it may be) you need to do something other than smoking. you could go lift, or you could snap a rubber band on your wrist... you could literally do anything at all, just STAY TRUE TO IT. the best replacement actions will reward you with a similar rush, so i'd say exercise would be a good one. eventually your habit will be changed, and you'll instinctively go to work out when you crave a cig... you won't have to force yourself to. and at this point, your craving for nicotine will be gone.

good luck man. you can do it.

It might be really hard depending on your situation, but I found that a complete change of schedule made it easy for me to stop. During the 2nd semester of senior year I hated my classes and basically all of them were really easy to skip, so I started leaving almost every class to just chill at a river near the school. If I had weed I'd smoke that too, but I'd usually smoke swishers or black and milds. Ended up getting myself addicted (I think) and wanted to stop. I couldn't quit at all during the school year, but as soon as school ended and I had a ton of freedom it became really easy to cut back. I still haven't stopped 100%, but I don't smoke on more days than I do. Probably smoke a Black and Mild like 3 days a week now where it was 7 before. Good luck!
