Tips on Making a Movie

So this season i got a lot more into filming and stuff(got a concussion and couldnt do anything XTEME) and make a lot more edits, and now im starting to save my footage.I now have around 600 shots of around 10 different people, and im finding that they are starting to clutter my hard drive big time.(im on a macbook) I started making different folders for each person in the shots, even though its a really boring process.Ive been using Imovie for my edits so far, and want to use FCE but it really seems much more complicated and i just cant get the hang of it haha.but anyways, what are some tips on making a season movie for not only editing, but storing the she files as well.

You know ive kinda always wanted to know what everybody else does on this too.. how do people log and store their clips. By date? By rider? By location?

my way if i sort all my footage into folders by date. and then every clip i will include the riders name. that way when i edit i just have all these folders and i can search say "joey" and i get all of joeys clips sorted by date dropping down from my date folders/

well its a combination. i start by making a folder for the day filmed with location and date. then i capture each clip individually with the persons name and description of clip in it. then i save. and in a folder called capture scratch i am able to see all the raw clips with names, trick types and from each individual date...

i make a project for each shoot that i do (ex. Urban_dfd or march_13). I clip all the good shots and group them togather for each person(if i have time). That way when i go back and am looking for clips for a certin rider, i just open all my projects and copy and past what i want.

I tryed relabling a couple years back but its a shit ton of work and problems arize with orgionazation and whenever 1 file has multiple shots. With my method all the files are already cliped out and ready to be dropped in an edit.

*sorry for my horrible spelling, im not going to take the time to correct any of it.

quicker than trawling through hundreds of clips a while later when you can't remember what they are. Using sub files with names etc helps alot though.

so u make a folder of the date of the shootand within that folder are other folders of the riders with their clips in it?
and is this what most of you would suggest?

i think thats a step to far.

if you just have folders by date and then the clips labbeled with rider and trick.

import all your date folders. or make them "bins". and then all you have to do when searching for a clip is search the riders name and it will drop down all the clips of that rider under your bin/dates.

similar for filler shots i always add filler to the clip name. or crash etc.
