Tips on Edits

So, I'm an extremely amateur filmer and editer (Same as half of NS) and I want some tips. I don't have the nicest camera, but I recently found my D90 takes better video, and also lets me play around with focus and aperture. I make ski edits in the winter and tramp edits in the summer, and I want to make them better. Here is me and my friends last edit:

I also want to know why the quality only goes up to 480p, even though the go pro and my camera both shoot in 720p. We used imovie to edit it, and I am hoping to get fcp soon. Any tips will be nice.

Thanks guys

your quality is only 480 because you probably exported it in standard definition. never used imovie but it probably supports hd

tripod and or Steadicam to get rid of the shakiness, obviously if you edited it in a better software you could export at a higher res and make the colours better, ummm maybe try and film when the light is better aswell just cos the shots where it was sunny were much nice to watch..

-i liked the occasional helmet cam

-try to film steadier

-try to sync the edit with the music more

-make use of 60p slow motion from the gopro occasionally

-get closer on fisheye shots

Thanks dog, i agree with everything except the music syncing, you didn't think it fit in well? We tryed to make it flow with the music :( Good call on the changing settings, never thought of that, thanks +k to everyone

Invest in a steadycam 2000 pro.Try to sync some of the beats/kicks in the song to the cuts in the edit. A really good edit makes you see that the song and visual are working together.Try to film on sunny days hah.Watch ski movies and good edits, they will help you. You don't need a great camera to make great stuff.
