Tips for riding rails?

Getting huge air, and jumping off cliffs...I'm fine with. But rails scare me....everytime I try them, I come away with a brused nut.

make sure u turn the whole 90 degrees on the rail bend your knees and look at the end of the rail and u'll be fine

....

If you feel like you're going to fall off, then just get off, if u try too hard, thats when you nut yourself.

center you weight not to fall off and keep your feet about a foot apart for balance, I just understood that and it works really well.

Freeskiing is a lifestyle, and true skiers are the ones who live this lifestyle, not the ones who follow it.

hard to explain on a computer...let's say get good speed, not like if you would hit a booter lol, but enough speed so you can grind all the rail without slowing down in the middle of it coz you didn't go fast enough...sorry that's the best I can do lol.

yeah thats how i am, getting better though. i use to beable to drop a 30 footer before greasing a rail. the main key that i learned was to look at the end of the rail. starting out you can get more speed then normal, then when you are comfortable with it slow it down and add style. just judge what others are taking it at

u know what helps me, as gay i think it really is. gorilla steez, stay low getting onto the rail to keep a low center of gravity and u'll have an easier time keeping your balance...not 2 low, but lower than u would normally ski

hey.....i liek 2 ski!!!

not sucking works, not for me though - it just takes balls and keeping balance, you prob just lean back--DONT, simple

Listen to dad---shit in the woods not the toilet

yeah i'd say speed is key when I was first trying my friend was doing so much better and it was cuz I was going to slow and if you don't have that speed its impossible to balance so try it with just enough speed that you don't feel comfortable. good luck

I pussed out one time and rode straight onto the rail. Needless to say I have greased every rail I have attempted with a certain sense of respect, and a sense that my testicle got hurt before.

put most of your weight on your downhill ski... if you dont, you get funny black and blue marks all over your hip and a seperated shoulder

you guys all forgot the most important thing.... RELAX. you have to be super compfortable... relax, and think it will be fine, then go into it at a medium speed, turn your whole body to 90 degrees when you get on, look at the end of the rail, and keep your weight forward.... and RELAX. it is the most important thing.

hmm, for speed i would think just average speed, like 10 km/h. im starting to like taking tons of speed in and not popping off the jump much. that way you grind the rail really fast and you launch off the end

its true gorilla style, as much as its pretty flaming, it does help on rails, if you are low and thuggish than its harder to fall and if/when you do fall it doesnt hurt as much

What the hell were they doing with a car on the moon?... havent they gone far enough?

royale is sooo sick

but yeah just get your feet over the rail, and kinda just gotta let your self chill out..keep both hands in front and don't lean back and don't lean foward...might want to de-tune your edges

now this may sound silly, but what do i think of as i go? do i have think about the rail or something else? would it start off natural? thanks

You have to own the rail. Like I find that yelling at it as i approach gets me pretty worked up so that my attention is taken away from only trying to stay centered on the rail. But yeah, don't let the rail intimidate you!

the best thing is to get relly coky a picture your self as tanner or someone and think that its the easiest shit ever and you usually do it pritty good

whos the pussy now, pussy

don't check within like 5 feet, if you have to , do a pizza or somthin cuz doin a regular check will mess up your being square to the rail.

'what are you a mountainier, hes gat ropes and shit hangin off him'

Sounds good! Thanks for the info! As far as detuning my edges....why? Is it really possible to catch an edge on a rail? Or does it keep you from blowing the edge?

put more weight on the leading foot, and it helps me to kinda point at the end of the rail, then i have a good focus point

just come up to it with a good amount of speed with your legz shoulder width apart and then get low and just do 90 degrees n ure pretty much done itz just getting on to the rail thats the hardest part when ure first starting them

IT'S JUST LIKE A WOOKIE DUDE!!!

Here...this is the easiest way to figgure it out.

Put a skateboard about 10ft in front of you and run and jump on it...if your weight is too far back you will fall on you ass...same with the rail. You have to be committed and balanced...

Most (60%) of your weight whould be on your front foot.=, looking at the end of the rail...

And it is better to fall forward then to slide out and land on your hip on the rail, forward you can at least brace yourself...

work to live...not live to work.

work to ski...but only if you ski to work. The simple equation to skibumming 101

That skateboard thing is gold.

It seems like everytime I get comfortable with a rail, whether it be a flat, or kinked or otherwise, I go a little too fast, or get too cocky, and fuck myself up. What's with that?

Also, I've never had the balls to try a rainbow...

No one on their death bed has ever said 'I wish I had played it safe'

i didn't read most of those ^^ but...get low do the whole gorilla steez..its way easier...bend your knees and just go for it...you usually fall when you're not going to 90 and jumping onto the rail..

If you're not above embarrassing yourself and looking gay, find a pair of inlines and a low rail. Then go at it. You should get it within 30 seconds. Then you'll more or less get it when you're on skis. At a minimum, you'll understand what to do a little bit better, and you'll feel more confident when you're sliding on skis. The more speed, the better.

Whistler Sucks.

for the speed factor, just watch videos, whether they be pro videos, or the ones of this site, just watch them and get an idea of how much speed should be carried into them

what

if your weight is back, you are going to slide out and fall back and land on your hip...that sucks worse than falling forward...trust me...

just think of the skateboard...if you lean back then your gonna stack it hard...

work to live...not live to work.

work to ski...but only if you ski to work. The simple equation to skibumming 101

Almost forgot, never try a new rail before you hit the kicker in front a few times and you know what is at the end. There's nothing worse than greasing a huge ass rainbow first time and then finding out that somebody decided to build a pile of snow just at the end...

On my way to goddom

wow, that a lot of good advice

This year I went to Outdoor school Camp with my grade. My teacher was in a Field talking to his Girlfriend at 11:30 pm, my friend and I were suspicious so we flashed a flaslight in the eyes of my teacher and they were closed. We Burst out laughing I said 'His having phone sex'. So the Next Day I went around and told EVERYONE in my grade what happened last night. I said to them 'on the count of 3 we'll say MR. GIBSON were you MASTERBATING last night. My teacher we so red, it was fucking Hilarious

you guys on the east have mountains yet?-CJ

what fucked me up was leaning the oposite way i was goin and landed strait ontop of the rail. keep your body leaning equally with the angle of the rail, even if its a strait.

Latvians rock harsh

i find the trick is just gettin the rite amount of speed then itz super easy

IT'S JUST LIKE A WOOKIE DUDE!!!

if you take a really harsh bail, then that is the worst that can happen, so go at it and just commit, there are sometimes where you do everything right and you just catch an edge on the rail, make sure the rail is not garbage also, becuse you can be more prone to catch and edge which is not a good thing.

turn the full 90, and don't go from the side, go right at the rail or go at the side where you have to pop over the rail to get on, that way you fully commit.

'Keep on rocking in the free world'

^^^ yea u make a point, if the rail is shit yo will most likely catch an edge, cuz at the end of last year, im a pretty decent jibber, i took a really harsh bail on my backyard rail cuz it was all rusted at the end of the year

IT'S JUST LIKE A WOOKIE DUDE!!!

keep your knees bent, have the speed (try diffrent speeds) make sure you feel comfortable poping off the jump onto the rail, look at the end and KNOW THE RAIL IS YOUR BITCH
