Tips for dunking

Sup NS, I need some tips of dunking. I'm 6'1'' or so, always played basketball when growing up. When I try and dunk I end up smashing my fingers on the rim and getting blood underneath my nails and bruising my hand. It'll sound like I'm a pussy, but doing that over and over get old.

I went to the Y last night to shoot since I had nothing to do, and they had bent rims so I figured why not. I still have the same problems on an un-bent rim as a bent one (ball bouncing out the back of the rim).

I know there's some tall guys on NS aswell as basketball players, try and help me

Start doing vertamax work outs, they'll increase your vertical leap by a few inches.

My friends 5'8 and he can dunk a girls ball no problem. Always comes up short when he tries it with a guys ball though
 
You simply just cant jump high enough. Get on a vertimax machine at your highschool if you guys have one and just look up different work outs for it. If you put in the work you will be dunking no problem.
 
instead of smashing your fingers into the rim and trying to go through it, go around it and through the top, it actually counts as 2 points.

I really don't know what kind of an answer you're looking for, its pretty self explanatory. IF you are getting up high enough and you have decent hand-eye coordination its not that difficult. It sounds like youre not getting up high enough
 
I used to jam fingers on the ball a lot when I was learning to dunk, but not once from hitting them on the rim. Practice doing a few dozen dunks with a tennis ball and a volleyball to lock down your jumping and placement technique. That helped me a lot.

OP do like 200 burpees a day, once that gets easy tie a weight around your waste and do more. You will have the ups to dunk soon enough
 
yeah that could be a problem. You need to easily be able to palm it. I have massive hands and can drop and cratch a ball with one hand (if that makes sense) and i still have trouble palming it sometimes when trying to dunk. I havnt figured out if its just because they are sweaty or not though. but yeah, unless you can get high enough to use two hands you need to be able to palm the ball well.
 
I was dunking (more like "laying the ball in" like the video in the 1st post said) on the bent rims last night with my personal ball, but I will start doing burpees thanks for the tip
 
Misread title, thought it said drunking. Thought I'd post since I was already here wasting my time. Maybe you just aren't predisposed to dunking. Maybe you should try some taller shoes. Thats all I got.
 
Didn't read past the title so I'm assuming this is about Oreos or other types of cookies. Try using a fork so your fingers don't get all milky and your cookie wont break!

I've been thinking...you know how when you get off the trampoline and try to jump, but can't because your legs are used to the assistance of the trampoline? Maybe try the opposite. Jump while holding a medicine ball or some weights for like 20 minutes, then go try and dunk. :/
 
doing some jumping exercise such as just jumping up and down touching the backboard or rim with either a basketball or medicine ball might sound and look pretty dumb, but it can help you out a shit ton. do it for a good 10 - 15 minutes every time your on the court.
