so, not to bash canadians, but here in MT at the resort i work at, they tip sooo bad. like once in awhile they tip frickin awesome, but for the most part like 5-8%. is that cuz gratuity is usually included in canada?

Dogs fucked the pope, no fault of mine - HST

i tip 15-20 always, only 10 if service is bad, and i work at a 4 star restaraunt, and people tip 5% wtf?

Dogs fucked the pope, no fault of mine - HST

at the restaraunt that I used to work at, the only customers that tipped were from out of state, because vermont is filled with a bunch of ignorant rednecks. Twix_1182 included

V-TOWN Bitches!

dont like it? get another job

tipping is becoming sooo mandatory the server usually forgets he has to work his ass off for it.

give people a reason besides "this is a 4star resort and you HAVE to tip me" and they will

you probably just suck at serving

Word.

dude if gratuity is included, why would they tip besides that?!

i usually tip almost double the tax. i probably tip about 15%

no, gratuity is not included here. i serve fine, i work my ass off, i'm not complaining. i was just curious.

Dogs fucked the pope, no fault of mine - HST

its because canada is a socialist nation. they think that their grand master or whatever pays for it. its in the taxes.

I don't carry a calculator around with me so I always leave either a twonnie or a lonnie...is that how you spell twonnie? anyway I guess that means I'm cheap, but hey I'm 15 and my bank account has 2 cents in it right now....seriously I just took out teh last 15 nucks

i usually give people the greater benefit, as long is its not a ridiculous tip. i usually round up to the nearest dollar (from 15%) so i tend to go slightly above that, unless the waitor was a jackass or slow or something.

stick that in your pipe and smoke it!

i think tipping in general is getting out of hand. Tipping shouldn't be seen as mandatory. I ussually give pretty good tips but if i feel that the waiter didn't put in any effort to make my dinning experiance better than i don't feel bad about being cheap. I know people that work at wal mart that work harder than some waiters i know and get paid less so should i tip them when they help me look for something. Don't get me wrong i always tip i just don't think it has to be expected.

BE YOURSELF

when you go to other countries like europe and shit tipping isn't even expected. Maybe they dont think they have to either. Or you just suck and your gay

Usually tip double the tax amount.

But it depends on what the tax rate is.

Here at SF its 8.25% so I double that for my tips.

I guess I pay about 16% tip then.

I think what he's trying to say is that eating isnt really formal at all anymore in america. I think its better this way. U just go in and eat some food, nothin more to it than that. No one worries about etiquate(sp?) anymore. Its more fun this way.

"is that cuz gratuity is usually included in canada?"

it's not included in canada.. except sometimes they tack on 8% if its a large group. but i usually tip about 15%

~meghan

this lady was being a bitch at this one rest. once, and like heard us talking about it, i still planned on tipping 15 percent, but she heard us saying she was being a jerk, and the service was bad, and she came and was like trying to cover, i still tipped 15 though

Dogs fucked the pope, no fault of mine - HST

oh, and if they really don't deserve it, i'll put the small change in a glass of water, take one of those comment cards and put it over the glass of water, flip the glass of water upside down, and take the comment card away. Only the smart ones know how to get out of that one.

I think that a lot of people don't realize why tipping is important. Your service staff has to 'tip out' a portion of their tips to other restaurant staff (ie. kitchen, bar, door, etc). The tip-out is based on sales, it is NOT based on the amount of tips they accumulate in a night. Therefore, if the server didn't receive any tips, they would have to tip-out from their own pockets - essentially having to pay to serve their tables.

Most service staff are young kids trying to pay their way through school, etc and depend on their tips to be able to pay their student loans. Depending on where you live, these kids make minimum wage at the very most. In some areas, servers are paid less than the standard minimum wage.

That said, North American tipping customs generally call for anywhere from 10-20% depending on the quality of service.

one time i bought a margarita and it was like 3.50 and i tipped 4 dollars. i didn't know what i was doing though

------------------------------

......."Wh
at's a fuckass?"

having worked in the service industry for way too many years, i tip at bare minimum 20%, unless i get really shitty service, and even then it's still like around 15%. usually 25%-ish.

and on a side note, you should tip your pizza delivery driver two (2) dollars and change or more, regardless of how much you order.

no no no if service is bad you just round up the bill and pay them change basically, GOLDEN RULE. no matter if its $.03. so if ur bill is $24.67, just round up to $25 and they get .33 cent tip, all you need to know.

now if service is decent its 10%

if its excellent around 17-20%

if your bartender is the shit 30%

i tip the same as tax, which is 15%. But Ill tip more if i really enjoyed the service and I'll tip less if the service was shitty. Tips are not just a right, and the second a server thinks that they deserve a tip for just doing their job is the second i tip less. If you arnt makeing my meal slightly more enjoyable, you arnt getting a good tip.

I don't usually go by percentage at all. I go by the service that I received. If it's shitty service then I usually just leave couple dollars no matter how big the bill is now if the service was excellent then it's 20% easy.

-People say marijuana ruins your life, I just say I take the scenic route-

I always tip well. I know a bunch of people who worked in the restaurant business, and I know they can get as little as $3 an hour before tips. Tipping should be mandatory in places like that I believe.

^ Why should it be mandatory? It's not our problem as a customer to come in and pay someone to do their JOB! Plus tipping is used in a way to thank the waitor for taking an extra step to assist the customers in whatever needs they have.

thats Canada for you... i think it breaks down 7% and 8% to federal and provincial governments respectivly. Its kinda shitty when i think that i spend 30%+ extra on a meal.
