Times your ego has been boosted?

I had a middle school aged kid call me a "beast" for doing park laps all day. All I was doing was sloppy 3s by myself not really caring who heckled me from the lift.

Ego is why people get injured or die. Don’t take my word for it, Go watch like a lion.

don’t underestimate even what getting injured does to you. I don’t wish that shit to anyone. Resort thing aside, I don’t wanna see or hear about people getting fucked and this “ego” circle jerking is not something to laugh about.

God you're such a pussy. It feels good to be validated when you do something you think is rad, get over it.

*me skiing switch down any green/mellow blue and passing any random jerry* “WOAH! that’s cool!” I know we all do it, but always fun to here someone tell us we look cool

Standing on top of a cool but fairly routine line in the cirque at Snowbird called elevator. Basically a straightline through a narrow gap. Some kid and an instructor see me. The kid looks at what I'm about to hit and goes, 'no way!!!'

I just drop and head him go 'oh my god!!'

There's a popular youtube snowboarder who made a vid on this line and they never hit it because they're such pussies. Its fucking cringe but popular among gapers of course.

Being around kids that idolize their coaches skiing is kinda cool honestly. Anything you do gets kids stoked which makes my old ass look great! lol

Stfu. I had a few season ending injuries very close to me recently and I’m just thankful they weren’t life threatening.

pussy or not ego isn’t the right word for validation.

Like getting props from someone actually respectable in the industry might be cool, but who the fuck cares about some jerries thinking your shit is legit.

Dude, chill. It’s an innocuous internet conversation. Nobody is talking about dropping gnarly lines under suspect stability.

ayyy fuck off dude, pretty sure Dan did hit it and he's a good guy. Bored Progression, he does clickbait but hey, starting a youtube channel from scratch, you do what you gotta do.

He hit it in a follow up vid I see now

For me the biggest ego boosters are when my friend told me I was a local legend at our resort, when a dad tapped his son and said “wow look at that kid” as I did something going by them, and when I casually did a butter 3 and some kids yelled from the chair lift “that was the steeziest thing I’ve ever seen”. Got to love skiing at a small Midwest hill where doing an Ollie makes kids think your a pro.

Once I posted a thread of me doing a 360 and people said it was good

I did a switch zero spin into a switch 3 on a jump line. A bunch of little homies gave me high fives at the bottom of the hill and told me how sick I was. That is the peak of my skiing career.

haha today while I was standing in the lift line, I smacked my skis on the ground to get the snow off. I heard something and turned around to see 3 little groms doing the same thing

I’m gonna fucking piss and shit all over your driveway and put hot steaming pug dog shit in your mailbox if you don’t chill the fuck out right now mr “I’m too good to feel cool at times because I think if I feel cool I’ll just hurt myself” WAAH WAAH WAAH stick your bitchy cry baby opinion in your ass before I mail you to fucking China and turn you into a fucking manufacturer of 98% of americas product.

The one time I did a Superman frontflip at Boulder. I was a lil drunk and hit the fullest extension I ever have on the Superman. Lift went absolutely bonkers, ppl were patting me on the back in the lift line. I felt like… well, Superman ?

I just hope you guys are doing this risky stuff because it’s actually fun for you and not just seeking validation.

I just hate seeing people getting into riding because it looks cool.

and I just realized that this forum doesn’t really do anything for me at the moment. I’m not in the mental space for the cheap laughs and I don’t think anyone cares to hear sound advice.

ski within your abilities assholes. Ski patrol hates having to scrape up your carcasses.

What really makes me feel like good is when I throw a 3 and then everyone just stares at me or claps. That’s the best

Bruh I hate when people clap at me. It's always the gapers that clap

You haven’t given any sound advice. Just called people names and made assumptions about why they ski and progress themselves. Nobody in this thread has made any statements about trying tricks way outside their comfort zone or even made it seem like they’re seeking outside validation. They’re just sharing stories of when they were unexpectedly hyped up and that it made them feel good.

Nah ur right, I drive 3 1/2 hour just to impress Jerry n his kids… ?

the hype u receive is a byproduct of your own dedication, and it shouldn’t be looked down upon to enjoy your hard earned props! It’s a congratulations. But yeah ur right, doing shit just to impress the lift isn’t chill and will probably get you hurt.

seems like you can either laugh and be super serious and no in between. You also have to like skiing but not just on a surface level when you start. Just like having work experience for an entry level job.

Skiing at Heavenly is a huge ego boost if you're even a half decent skier. There are just so many jerries everywhere, standing at the top of every blue run like they're the great wall of gapers, that merely just zooming around without any hesitation makes you feel like a god.

Your condescending rambling is the truest example of ego in this entire thread.

The lady at the diner serving us the other day said I reminded her of a young Johnny Depp. I nearly made out with her right there despite her being around 55

Skied at heavenly and i felt this way, until chris whatford pulled up

Was ripping ass down the line under snake creek at btown, dropping cliffs and shit when I found a can of pringles someone dropped from the lift. Opened up that lid and like chugged the pringles out of the can and the crowd went wild

Where I come from "ripping ass" does not have anything to do with moving down a hill at high rates of speed.

sound advice: dont let the hype get in the way of being able to judge things clearly.

thats my message.

and yes, getting gratification from people does in fact inhibit your ability to judge things as they are. like its not even debateable, its straight neuroscience.

dude people have been shitting on your opinion on this topic unanimously, just drop it ffs

oh no! newschoolers disagrees with me. what will i ever do?!

i dont come here for upvotes or for a sense of belonging. who actually cares about fake internet points...

its something no one wants to hear but needs to be heard. dont let it get to your head. no one is actually as good a skier as they think they are.

This dude is riding through life with training wheels on.

Do you ever push yourself? Or try new things? Or care about progression and developing your skills?

you gotta learn to walk before you can run.

ive been putting the hours in. on snow and off snow. you could check the progression thread and see my post there, but clearly you dont spend much time looking at that stuff

ajbski takes the cake for the biggest ego in skiing currently, which says a lot because this is a sport 100% entirely built on egos

Sounds like you're being a little risky dude, I'd probably slow down a little bit. Don't want to get hurt, amirite?!?!

look im just defending my perspective. that should be admirable considering how many spineless douchebags there are here that shut up as soon as their karma starts taking a hit.

like i said before, i couldnt care less if you guys agree with me or not. im trying to steer new comers in the right direction as well as burn time at work.

plus, newschoolers wouldnt be as entertaining if everyone agreed to the same thing like rpogrammed robots. our sport would have never been created if everyone shared the same opinion.

Standing at the top of the park and I turn around to find some 5 year old and his parents just staring at my skis. Kid looks up at me and says "You skis are cool."

I said "Thanks, little man." Then I straight-lined it through my municipally run park into the serious avalanche terrain in the wetland by the cross-country ski trail. There I started hucking myself off of cattails, throwing sweet spins in no-fall terrain (on account of how wet the wetland was). After I tow-roped back up to the top a ski patroller asked me how I could be so reckless. I told him I did it for the respect. I asked if he was going to clip my pass. He said "Son, I don't give a shit about that. The only thing you did was drag a bunch of cattails into the terrain park." We fist bumped and I went home. After that the parks district that ran the terrain park and adjacent tubing hill decided that their closed boundary policy was BS. Ever since then we've had easy access to unlimited backcountry wetland skiing. It's sick, no one even carries a beacon.

so is band wagoning with other people, oh and telling people they have tiny pp energy.

how does that post contribute to the forum?

also found out that I am a local legend. not really for being good at skiing, but for being that dude with the fattest skis on my lil midwest mountain. I do love it when I stroll thru the mini park at the end of my day and just throw a 180 or slide a flat rail to switch off and all the groms and newbz on the lift get stoked
