Time lapses are PLAYED

i'm sick of buying ski movies and getting 20 minutes of skiing and 15 minutes of time-lapses.

it's time for a little innovation - we need something new.

by the way, i think a zip line shot of a ridiculous line through the trees would be the most insane thing ever. mountain bike videos anyone?

yeah agreed. have you seen the movie "ROAM" its pretty much all in whistler i think and they set up mad ziplines and its the illest footy ive ever seen. deffinantly needed in a ski movie.

absinthe films does the whole zip line things down lil bc lines and booters.

i think there's definitely a place for timelapses in movies, especially new and original ones, but too many of them in one flick can definitely get tired quick.

Ziplines are the shit! If only we could figure out how to simulate that in skiing without the ziplines it could work for just the average dude!

i dont mind them if they are nice, or they pan in any direction, or pan in or out.

now most ski movies arnt original at all, we need more innovative films like MDP "Picture this". They use lots of follow cams, camera crane shots, and they use true hd cameras, but from what i know they have much more money to spend on camera equipment compared to ski filmers, and another point is that thier riding is also inovative (im not saying that in some movies skiing is not original)

well apearently everything is played...tightpants are played, baggy is played, double grabs are played, spins are played, regular twin tips are played, poles a played.

Well i guess for everything to be perfect we would all have to ski naked, on racing skis, with no poles, watching movies about carving.........man it sounds fucking awsome. I normaly don't get pissed, but at all these " Ohh this is played, that is played......every fucking thing is played" threads. Its just FUCKING DUMB. GROW FUCKING UP. You guys seriously sound like those bitches on MTV....fuck.

They could set some ziplines over a park line, this would make great shots and it would be easier to do than over a powder line. They could try it over the X games, sinces it's covered a lot and they wouldn't have any problem spending a bit of money on that.

i love timelapse. most people don't know how much work and time go into those. You don't just set the camera on "record", hell most people don't even know that most of them are all done with slr's. To capture those insanely long exposures over a couple hours is so sick.

some are used in a sense to label the film "this is a legit ski movie because there's time lapse". i agree that they can be overused in teasers, but i still appreciate the really good ones.

ski movies are so played now.  seriously we need something different like snowblading, for god sakes imagine how sick that would be!

Thats like saying skiing is played.

There are so many different types of timelapses you can do-so many different variations of techniques etc.

some timelapses suck. Some are awsome. Same goes for follow cams, long lens, anything!

yea i no what ya mean bro, i like watching lifestyle, but some of it can be boring. and the whole zip line thing, my god. i have seen some of those mountain bike vids, such a dope shot.

im fed up with the "in the car" timelapse like in that skilife edit. i fucking hate looking at traffic. especially when im supposed to be watching wintery slopes. maybe ill take a timelapse of wating in line at the dmv or working on my homework.

Don't just focus on the content. That is like hearing a song and saying "oh well that song sucks because I don't like the lyrics," and not even paying attention to the music!

Take the movie Seabiscut for example. I didn't like the movie at all. The plot bored me. YET, I still really enjoyed watching it because it had amazing colors.

Perhaps its just a filmer/photographer thing, but I enjoy just seeing just about ANYTHING as long as the colors/cinematography is good.

This also explains why I can't stand rap music. I hardly ever listen to the lyrics. I couldn't tell you the first 2 lines of my favorite song. All I listen to is the music, and rap tends to be boring and repetative to me because it is lyric based.

This is also why I favor instrumental music.

there are good timelapses and bad timelapses. good timelapses will never be played.

yea I agree, tho there is a place for them, it doesnt mean every little 2 min edit needs a min and half of time laps. It just irratates the shit outta mean cuz I would like to watch some skiing not the same time lapse of either a tree or grass blowing in the wind or clouds moving across the horizon, followed by another time lapse of the standard drive to the resort

I like rap because of its lyrics in some rap but not the mainstream shit thats on MTV. That's only good for fake-boning girls on the dance floor...awesome still though. A good beat can make a good song nevertheless. 300 would be the rap version of a movie because it's got the most badass cinematography and fighting ever, but the plot line's fucking terrible. Still, it's awesome to watch!!!

So if the skiing is terrible, a good cinematographer can mask it up and make the movie good anyways with some good nature shots anyways. If the skiers are amazing, the filmer/editor can enhance their amazingness by adding nature shots and lifestyle and timelapses to make the movie even more entertaining and make it a little bit more of an art than a business.

Either way, timelapses are NOT played.

time lapses now a days are fuckin played cuz its not made the real fuckin way.

Watch Baraka and thats real timelapses...

you kids think that leacin a dv cam on for 5 hours and fastfowarding it is cool, well its not

and its played.

i actually got so bored in a class the other day that i was admiring the different colors of the light sockets in the front of the classroom. of course it provided me some (ummm) entertainment? but it wasn't really the reason why i was there. but yeah im glad that you're a filmer/photographer and you like colors. thats a good thing.

my ideal movie involves almost no editing, definitley no slowmo except maybe a ramp on your hammer, raw tight deathlense shots on rails, not a single sound cut out, not a single gimmick pulled or word typed or spoken, and skiing that is diverse not in a sense of clothing and types of tricks, but hard tricks in all directions that only other skiers who really know the sport can appreciate rather than the dinosaurs that currently decide what tricks are gonna get you your next package. Something that you can watch with your ski buddies and find minute details in each part that you like, no forced style so each part would feel different even if edited the same to the same music without lifestyles. there are sooo many places skiing hasnt gone yet and im not even touching the tip of the iceberg.

my iceberg will also never be a reality.

it is also way off topic.

sorry, yeah timelapses could use a little sprucing up.

time lapses are dope and I don't think it is possible to have them be "played"

also, zip line stuff looks sick, but the cables are really expensive, so i don't think your average kid will be able to do too many of those...

best fucking movie ever. I've watched it over 100 times, just the entire thing is amazing. I'm assuming you bike too

no its not at all!

the only part of ROAM that was in Whistler was the second segment. it was entirely the Whistler Mtn Bike Park. after that, the locations were Prague, Idaho, Jordie Lunn's house, Moab and the BC interior.

zip-lines are hard to do through tree lines without disturbing the snow while you're setting it up. also, zip-lines are a bitch to film with because of traveling. those things, being steel cable, weigh a ton. try taking those on a plane and see the extra cost you'll incur

You see the zipline stuff in the field movie? They did a couple of street rails with some sort of a cablecam setup - it was cool as all hell.

I'd like to see a whole mivie shot just like if you were in the park and looking at a skier doig a trick. No complex angles that are not understandable. No slo mo. No intro to a part, simply put the name of the guy and the music like in happy dayz.
