Time lapse help

ok so heres the deal. im using sony vegas studio 8 and im have this segment, its a longer one and im trying to convert it into a tiem lapse clip, but when i speed it up it will only condense so far and its deffinatly not fast enough. so here is the question, how do i/can i speed the clip up any more using vegas? or should i use an exterior program to speed up the clip and then import it back into vegas? anyway just let me know. and for the record i have a pc so please dont tell me to get a mac and then get fcp. dont worry its on the to-do list.
 
I've never used vegas, but for most programs that don't allow you to speed things up enough to make a time lapse what you do is speed up the clip as fast as you can and then export it. Reimport the sped up clip and speed it up some more.
 
Insert -> Video Envelopes -> Event Velocity, drag the green bar up as far as you can. Then right click the video timeline bar, go to Properties, and set "Playback Rate" to 4.000 (max). It probably won't be fast enough if it's a long timelapse you want, so what I normally do is export it, then import and do the process over again.
 
so i followed youre steps and they worked up untill the part where you had to select event velocity. at that point you lost me because that opition wasnt there. the only 2 options within video envelopes were track composite level and fade to color. am i doing somthing wrong?
 
When you say it's not there do you mean it's not clickable (like light grey) or it's just not there at all? Make sure you've got the timeline video track selected by clicking on the strip where the video is on the timeline.
