Timberline Spring Pass Might Be DiscontinueD Starting Next Year...

Yo boys,

I just talked to a T-line employee who was at the managers meeting last night for the lodge and ski area. He said Timberline Lodge and town of Government Camp are getting sick of the wAvE that we bring in the springtime to shred Mt. Hood. The trash, rowdiness, and camping in the Mt. Hood National Forest are apparently really becoming a problem, and they might actually discontinue the Spring Pass starting next year. It's all up in the air and undecided, but Timberline (R.L.K.& Co. LLC) already makes PLENTY of profit without us, so i'm just saying lets try to keep it PG as much as possible so that we and/or other skiers can keep migrating out here for years to come...

sincerely, a skier

people should organize some sort of trash picking event or something like that to show the town/forest service we care. I would help if I wasnt on the east coast.

I hate to say that I'm surprised, but is a long time coming. I know of plenty of skiers who go to mt hood, camp, clean their shit up and respect the forest, but I've heard way too many stories of people finding trash, not just paper towels and plastic bags, but full pieces of furniture, tarps, etc I've heard it all and I had a feeling something like this was coming.

Such a bummer, but that's what happens when people repeatedly don't follow the rules, consequences need to be faced for those actions and unfortunately it's affecting everyone.

Well Windells just found a way to charge even more money.

Most of the people who get a spring pass are older. Most kids have school throughout May.

Most of the people who go to Windells are in middle/high school and thus can't pull off getting to Hood for Spring Pass (unless they live in the area).

This is what we get for the heathens pooping in the woods next to the airstrip.

we might deserve this, people are foul

OP I don't believe you about the spring pass but I'm gonna buy a fusion pass anyways.

Also not that I think any litterers are on the forums but people that litter are the worst and they will pay the ultimate price in karma. If you throw your trash in my church I hope a giant raven picks out your eyes while you are passed out.

do you even know what that term means? That's probably the opposite of whos doing it

I would assume that the yuppies are the ones complaining about the gypsy life. As far as people littering and not respecting the natural world and the people in govy and at t-line I guess that they have this coming to them.

I don't believe that. All the areas on Hood benefit from the influx of capital and traffic that their spring passes bring. If you think that the main cash is from gypsies in the woods, then you are delusional. It's from the Portland metro area that actually spends money when they come up to the mountain by frequenting the accompanying establishements, and not eating sardines and crackers under a tarp in the woods.

I doubt OP talked to anyone of importance. Just another carny.

If anything I would see them ending the spring pass around the same time as Meadows, but even then. I doubt it.

It's true.

Keep it respectful this summer if your coming to Hood.

A lot of local business had problems, people where getting too fucked up on the hill, and I guess trash was a big issue.

I can't see them phasing the spring pass out completely...Too much of PDX buys spring passes.

Maybe some method put in place to discourage gypsies. Like a posted previously. I.E. shortening the season.

It's sad that whenever this kind of thing happens to a wilderness area they restrict access rather than enforcing the existing rules and laws.

Well after going to Mt hood for the first time, I could definitely see how they don't need our demographic. There were tons of other (and significantly wealthier looking) people skiing the rest of the mountain.

How is timberline at all responsible for enforcing forest service laws? Tline owns a lot of property in govt camp as well at their own lodges, and things get wrecked up and down every place in the spring. Its not them trying to screw our demographic, it's them trying to save money due to property damage.

Also, anyone think the nude t2b might be the final nail in the coffin? The shot was amazing and hilarious, but maybe not the best timing for that

Right, by restricting access instead of enforcing the rules and laws that are already in place.

What power do they have though right? Aside from calling the police or forest rangers. This isn't a dig at them, it sucks it's come to this. I blame the cops and forest rangers for never doing a damn thing about public (or private) lands getting trashed.

"People are fucking shit up so we're just gonna close" is a shitty mentality that's far to prevalent when it comes to forest access, hold the people breaking the laws liable.

Again, tline has no leverage on forest service/ the police. Instead of hiring security, they just eliminated a pass that they really didn't need to put out in the first place. They get constant complaints about the spring crowd acting like douches to locals, particularly the younger and older locals, and leave the lots caked in trash.

Why should tline be responsible for hiring security when they can just remove a pass that doesn't make them much money anyway

Yea, and it's a shame. For you to say that the largest player in the area has no pull with local law enforcement is bullshit though.

No local law enforcement up there except the occasional statie or sheriff, and they aren't wasting their time in govy. They have real problems to deal with

We used to joke that govy was about as close to the wild wild west as you could get near portland

Would be shitty to see this actually happen.

Hard to believe because all the skiers I know/met are extremely environmentally conscious and do everything they can to help preserve the area they're living in. Especially out in hood.

Feel like Portland gypsies are more to blame than the people who come to Oregon to ski.

Yeah I've actually never seen a cop around there, aside form the occasional traffic cop down closer to sandy. Not that I've spent a significant amount of time in the area but still.

Was thinking about make the drive and staying for a week or two in early july anyone know if I could just sleep in the back of my car in the parking lot? I always clean up my trash but I need a place to stay.

The lot has overnight spots, you can definitely sleep in your car there.

85 in a 40 mph safety corridor, came up on the cop flashed him not knowing it was a cop passed him then he lit me the fuck up. Did get it reduced to 200 though so it was cool

They definitely are, it's from govy all the way to Sandy, during the summer there's always a guy in rhododendron by the DQ becuase it goes down to 40 in that zone. My advice set your cruise control all the way from rhododendron until Mt hood village RV park til it goes back to 55 also be weary of that weigh station lots of cops there too. Clackamas county sheriff deputy's patrol the highway mostly and they don't have a class to take off your ticket. OSP does but you gotta go to Salem to appear and be eligible

Yeah i cleaned up a shit ton of trash throughout the past month. How hard is it to clean !! come on this is my favorite time of the year to ski, besides powder but shit lets save this!!

Gotta have a radar detector and know it well. Only had two tickets this decade and both were when I had a passenger distracting me and playing music so I couldn't hear my radar detector. Know the limits of your Radar detector though. Near that spot by the DQ there is a sign that will set it off so you can't tell if there is a cop or not.

So if I came in the early/mid-July Id have to buy tickets by the week/day proabably. I dont think they have a spring pass kind of deal then. Also I dont recall any stores up there so I should probably fill up coolers or something and just make a supply run to govy or hood river every few days?

Day tickets only through the summer. Sandy is the closest town with box stores its, about 40 miles from timberline.

BUMP. Anyone got news on this? I’m not seeing anything on t-line’s website and I’m fearing the worst...
