Timberline Parks

Keep up the work Park crew the park is dope rode it toady and it kills meadows park!

only change i would make is don't bury the tire so for under.

I really want someone to explain this to me.......how can timberline not have a halfpipe all winter at all...then summer comes and they are everywhere. Does the timberline park guys not know how to make a pipe? So when all the camp people come their people use your shit to make the pipe. Timberlines park is sick ....but so is meadows but guess what they have a pipe all winter and the terrain is way fucking better to ski on pow days. Thats exactly why I bought a meadows pass instead of a fusion this year!

true, meadows has a pipe and is better on pow days, but it is also way more crowded and given their resources and the size of the mountain, their park blows in comparison to timberline

I heard a long time ago that timberline shares a superpipe cutter with another resort... they have it in the winter and timby has it in the summer...

The reason that I was told is that it takes a ton of work to maintain. Durring the winter at Tline, so far I have witness this, a half pipe would get filled in with snow in a matter of hours with the wind. We are still thinking of building one, or a substitute of the same likeness. Half pipes are the hardest features to maintain and take the most cat time. I personally think time is better spent in the park working on jumps and jibs but I wouldnt mide a pipe more towards the spring time.

for sure.... that makes sense to wait till spring time ... or you could put the pipe in the old secert ninja spot on that littile run from walts baby to west leg road.. like 12 years ago they had a pipe there and there would still be enough room to get down to west leg road and it would be proctected from blowing snow that the pipes on norman face. i could se it hard to push snow up to it. but its a thoght and i know it would not get a good to go from kruse and ned flanders. but we can wish. at least by march have a pipe up. its really sucks. that in essence timber line aims it most prolific park skils to the summer scene. but i understand timby makes a killing. but the parks are great as always and i have no complaints on them. keep up the good work. and quarter walls allways fuck people up..

oh yeah. more hips. but dont use the cutter make those park crews work!!!

We have made attemps in the last 2 years. And we all do know how to build them. I started pushing one in spraypaint 2 years ago, got 3/4 of the left wall done, took me about 20 hours of cat time. Then three days later a storm hit and erased most of my work. Not to say I couldn't have restarted the process but it would have meant neglecting the jump line for that week. It's kind of a trade off. The other issue is that spot in spraypaint worked fairly well when we used to cut a 15 foot pipe in there, but that pipe was still only about 3-4 good hits before it got really flat. Now with an 18 foot pipe in there you need a little more hill and steepness to make anything worth riding. If I put in the extra hours to build it up it's probably going to be just a couple hits and out.

Having sad that I do think pipes are important and I hope to have one when it's feasible, it's by far my favorite feature to ride. The cost benefit and ridership level of a pipe up here in the winter is the issue. The last year we had a pipe (2008) it was literally open and ridable under 10 days from it's opening day January 15 through April 1. Still though we spent hours each night digging it out re- stepping, re-stacking and cutting, all to not have it open the following day. By the end of the year the push out pipe from that pipe was literally 100 feet deep. And just to reiterate we don't have a pipe right now not becuase we don't want one or becuase we are lazy, We simply feel that pipe ridership on the whole is not as important to most users as jumps and rails right now, so we instead have shifted our availabe resources into building better parks. You may also notice that a day ticket at meadows is 69 bucks this year. Things like building an in-ground halpipe, and maintaining one are direct expenses reflected in ticket prices. We would like to maintain our ticket prices as well as offer the best park experience for our guests, we feel strongly that the winter pipe could directly affect that.

As far as the summer pipes are concerned we do build our public summer pipe in May and keep it going through most of July. It's a lot easier to maintain that summer pipe simply becuae its usually not snowing in the summer. The other 2 -4 pipes in the summer are located within the private camp areas and are payed for by the camps. 2 of those are built and cut by our grooming staff wo do a really good job with them.

In the future I am always interested in feedback concerning halfpipes and ridership levels. It's something we discuss quite often among or Freestyle Team. If in the future we see a greater demand for them we will look to have them again in the winter. If I could find a great spot for one with the length/pitch and protection from the wind I would jump on it immediatly, but in my quest for that spot at Timberline in the last 10 years I've come up with Spryapaint, which does not excel in any of those 3 criteria, or in the main jump line of Paintbrush, which would mean no more big jump line. So you guys tell me if that's sometihing you want to see we would consider it for sure.

Lastly I would not rule out a spring pipe of either 18 or 13 feet this spring in spraypaint. It's something I look at every year. if the snow keeps up like it is and then kind of mellows out in March I will look that direction. Last year that plan did not work out so well becuse, if we had build a pipe by mid March, it would have been closed most of the spring becuase of the wet/snowy spring.

So that's the word for now. Like I said, if pipe riding is what the masses want then let us know...Also I would be intersted to know if you would rather ride 13 foot pipe that had 5-6 hits or an 18 footer with 3-4.

damn.. logan.. you got ned flanders old job!!!! good work.
i know the time and effort for pipe... like if there is a pipe after spring break that would be tits.

Personally i'd rather not have a pipe. They're just too complex and not super fun. But however I think we should have a big quarter pipe hit near the end of spraypaint and where the other one was last year on conways!

well thanks for your amazing generosity. I was stating an opinion. I was not stating your opinion. I still have fun but personally i'd rather have a nice jump line.

Pipe is awesome to ride, but only when its maintained obviosuly and in the winter I think those resources could be better spent on other park features. Come spring time though when the weather hopefully clears up a bit a pipe would be great, but weather on mt. hood is always unpredictable

Im really kind of stoked to get a reply! I never thought they timberline didnt have a pipe out of laziness. I just didnt really understand how we couldnt have one through the winter. Thanks for clearing my questions up!

man i have not had pills since i sold them to silky, Gretchen and bacon!

but yeah i should lay off the douche comments. i feel the idea but in the end the park will be sick

dont spend any time on a pipe its a waste.... spend that much more time making a 60 footer with the snow you would have used for the pipe, so we can all do DUBS

wait.. you cant do trips yet.. ouch....... jkbring back the step to the step don again. that feature had great flow.

I know, who the hell writes an essay on NS?

Good information to have out there though. I agree with you Logan that at this point in my life a good superpipe is by far my favorite type of freestyle terrain. But Tline gets some wicked storms, storms that fillin 100+ foot deep canyons up higher on the mountain. And riding a poorly maintained pipe isn't nearly as fun as a perfect one. I say do the job right or don't bother.

I'm looking forward to riding northstar and sierra's pipes this winter.

Speaking of jobs. Can I get mine back?

I know if someone can make 80 hrs a week happen around here its you ponyboy.

I promise to never cheat on Timberline parks with any ice coast jankiness ever again.

so how about it?

btw Brian: never seen the bottom of paintbrush so stacked with legit rails!

I think most park skiers at timberline will pick sick jump lines and a park stacked with tons of rails and boxes over a sick pipe right now. Anyone who skis the park at TLine knows that the pipe gets filled with snow too often and too fast and does take precious groomer time away from jumps.

Pipe is sick, but it makes more sense to focus on jumps and rails.

My dream park:

Conways: 4 jump line 3 mellow step downs: 25-30-35 40 or 45 foot step over at the end like last year with a huge transition allowing for lots of set up time (like last year..pics available somewhere).

Lots of fun boxes. Bring back the S-Box that a certain someone destroyed lol.

More banked c-boxes. Keep Conways relatively simple, fun, and stacked with beginner to intermediate features. Please no lips to boxes that are higher than the box. Lots of Jibs on the side. Don't go more than two features wide, and keep each line unique.. rails are cool too.

Paintbrush--

3 money booters..$$$.. 40-50-60 stepdown/stepdown/ TRUE TABLE

4 jumps is too much for Pbrush imo..better three quality jumps than four hit or miss ones.

Then a double line of technical rail features. I don't think that Paintbrush should feature down boxes with 20ft gaps to them, but instead lots of techy rail features.

S-rail should be by itself in the middle. I think all unique features like DFD, Flat-UP, DonkeyD should be in their own line! Keep flat rails and more basic rails set next to them. So one side of the line would be all super varied tech rails with urban on, while the other side could be all gap to features that are more basic. Or you could split it by flat bar and barrel rails.

I just want to be able to hit the flat up to a super steep landing, the donkey and the dfd in the same line!

Wall ride at the end! Just some ideas of what my dream park would be like.

Are you guys going to be doing some bigger features this year? I would love to see bigger rails over more rails in Painbrush. The DFD at the end last season was so sick, so this year why not make it a DFDF? Or kink it left or right? The wall ride was fun, but how about building a bigger one? Everyone loves the S rail. The ridership level of the local crew has definitely gone up, and I would love to see Timberline step the big park up a notch to continue pushing us.

i was up there today and parks were okay didnt get to painbrush cuz i didnt have my skis, u guys "high performance" rented me cruzers S80 rossignols and tried to tell me they were freestyle skis. That aside i enjoyed the mini park and i did it with my friend who was still learnin. Hoping to make it up again soon, you got a decent quarter pipe like last year off of conways cuz that was sick

S-Rail is going out tonight, we will start to make stuff bigger as the season goes on. We try to get through the holiday break before making stuff too big for the masses, then after we can step it up. The wall ride is drawn up, going to build it next summer looking at something closer to 30ft long 12 feet tall. thanks for the feedback.

Park was orgasmic today! When ever we get more snow though push it all to the jumps! Keep it up guys your killing it so hard this year so stoked for the rest of the season!

Be sure to check out paintbrush X mas day....and jumps will be soon, been trying to get the brush up and running....look for a rebuild next week.

Paintbrush on Christmas? I'm there haha. Saw the s goin in the other day, so stoked! Bottom of Paintbrush is awesome, love the big up down. Do you guys have to keep it small for the USASA comps? We all can't wait for the big jumps, or even ONE big jump in Paintbrush would be sick. Conways is so sick right now too, lots of fun features. Keep it up guys!

STEP UP, and make it floaty as fuck

And IDK if that quarter/hip is still up at the bottom of the conways jump line, but that things needs to either be a fat hip or just gone

the jump on paintbrush monday was dirtyyyyy! I loved it make another one a little bigger where the cannon box is!

rope tow. = bomb holes and more maintinence. cool idea for a rider . .not for the park crew...

skibowl has a rope tow jib park.

not true. ski bowl parks suck ass (old news is old) as of right now. Went there on new years eve expecting to hit some sick rails but all they had was like some shitty boxes. not next to the rope tow.

So thankful for timberline's parks right now...meadows JUST pushed their lower parks off of daisy...seems a little late to me?
