Ticks! FUCK YOU TICKS!

So, I'm a tree planter up here in British Columbia. Have been for some years now, and dude - this spring is crazy. I have had to deal with ticks in the past, but for some reason (maybe the low snow pack this winter?) the ticks are out in force this year.

the reason of this thread is to ask how the tick situation is in your region? I hear they are bad just south of here in Washington, but is this a wide spread thing, or just the dry regions of the south interior of BC and northern PNW. I hate the bastards and have been analizing their behavior, and because I have to deal with them on a daily basis, have become quite interested in them. So, is this a widespread thing? If so, are you guys getting all tick paranoia as well?

Luckily the ticks in this region (Rocky Mountain Wood Tick mostly) don't carry Lyme Disease, but they do have "tick paralasis", which doesn't sound very fun.

Spark notes: I hate parasites, especially those that have diseases that kill! Ticks are crazy this spring. having tick problems?

i acidentally touched one that was on a dog. and i almsot blew chunks i have a phobia of leeches, and ticks are liek leaches with legs. I like the woods and camping but not pulling something out of me or off that is feeding on me while i'm still livng

yea, I'm not sure where McCall is, but anywhere in Idaho is probably close enough to have the same climate and eco-region (or whatever you want to call it) to have the same situation as we have here this summer.

fucking ticks!

I have not had the pleasure to find any on myself yet this year, but they get pretty bad here sometimes. In particular, last summer a friend and I were going to walk through this field of tall grass(3-4 ft) but the blades of grass looked really fucked up. There were literally millions of ticks covering the blades of grass, making them look black and more alive than they should. Long story short, we didn't walk through.

i think my g-ma caught that lyme disease stuff, not fun so jea, and i hate leeches/ticks in general

its worse then usual, and i live in ohio, ive never, ever had ticks on me in my 15 years at my house, and in the past 4 weeks i have honestly gotten 4 ticks on me, which i fortunatley got off before i got bite, sonsabitches

well, however you spell analizing.. whatever.

I do think they are smatter than the average bear... er - parasite. actually, I have no truly scientific information backing my study of tick behavioral patterns, just personal observations.

we have tons of deer ticks. picked one off me yesterday. i should probably go get some antibiotics. don't mess around with lyme. i have probably found 10-20 on me in the last month, but i walk my dog in a unkempt field near my house, easily tick heaven.
and we have an over population of deer. and they spread ticks like crazy.
plus my dog. pickedat least 20 out of his hair, and found tons of other dead ones.

ive had to pull off quite a few of the bastards this year, three deer and 4 regs bitten already, countless ones that i flicked off before the burrowed

shits gettin bad fucking airsoft and building my summer jib is where i got mine.

its kinda bad in ct this year. i pulled one the size of a button off my leg the other day, and i find like 3 a day on each of my dogs. i hate the fuckers.

ive found like 4 on my dog one on me and like 20 on my brother (he's in the woods alot) so id say its pretty bad here

i live here

a tick was crawling up my leg today at my friends house, it smacked the bitch and squashed it with his i-pod

Must not have many ticks in California then. I have never ever seen or gotten a tick on me here in California. The only time I ever had a tick on me was when we went back to Connecticut for my Dad's reunion. That's also the time when I realized how shitty the East actually is.

i dont see ticks here, but there are other fuckers that fly around all the time and theres like a million of them but you can only kill them one at a time. so discouraging...

The Northeast is tick central, stay out of high grass, wear pants when its possible, and always kids, remember to check for ticks after funtime in the wooooooooods.

i have actually never run into a tick before.....ever. dont even know what they look like but im sure id recognize it if i saw it. my cousin once got one lodged in his head. does anyone know the status of ticks in massachusetts?

i had lyme disease 2 years back or so. its pretty much the worst thing in the entire world. its like super duper next level mono, i couldn't do anything for months. everyone just thought i was depressed for a while too and just like kept telling me to get over it. you have no idea what my hatred level for ticks is.

I hear ya dude. Ticks are definitely more prominent this year than last. I went on a hike with my friends and pulled 9 off me that day. Then i was building some dirtjumps with my friend and I pulled 7 off me then. then a bunch of others randomly. I'm definitely scared of getting lyme because those kinda ticks are all i find on me, I had a scare where I thought I got it last year, and my friend did get it last year. Lyme is pretty scary shit.

i hate ticks so much. I have found like 4 on me from building dirtjumps in the woods but they suck so hardcore

yeah your absolutly right last night i picked 15 total ticks off my dog, they are like infesting the area. there is more ticks then ever this year, is it global warming?? i live on the cape

Im in Montana. They are always bad up here in the spring/early summer. A few years ago I had like 9 on me at one time (not embedded), I hate those fuckers and enjoy burning them. When I was alot younger I had one embeded on my ballsack and had to get my mom to take it off cause I was freaked out lolololol. But yea, when Im in the woods I always am checking for them. You just got to find them early.

Never dealt with a tick actually, but always keep my eyes out when I am outdoors. Lyme disease is pretty serious.

What are you questioning? I had it from the time I was 8 to the time i was 10 casue the fucking doctors said that we didnt have ticks in our area so i couldnt have it. Took some specialist to find out that it was lyme

Friends of mine in VT that have dogs and cats have mad ticks dropping off in their house all the time. some of the little bastards are the size of jellybeans. hella gross

up here in maine we got 2 kinds of dicks. deer ticks and regular ticks. they're both really bad in the spring. i go in the woods and get an average of 14 ticks when i come out every spring. its just something you gotta learn to deal with. i usually find them and kill them before they sink they're teeth but sometimes i get unlucky. the deer ticks are crazy small and carry lyme disease, so those ones suck but other than that its no big deal.

tick's found after one trek through woods record: 39 ticks all on my legs and pants.

tips for finding them on your skin: after you leave the woods stand verrrryyy still and if you have ticks you will feel them crawling on your flesh. thats how you find em.

ticks are no fun. They are pretty prevalent on the east side of the cascades in washington this time of year, but I didn't encounter any recently, although I've heard they are pretty frequent. Maybe the late may snow helped quell them for a while.

Ticks are one of the only bugs I have a phobia of. I went camping this weekend and found a huge one in my tent and almost freaked out until i realied how ridiculous i was being.

But I guess I have this phobia for a good reason. When I was like 7 I got a tick on my groin *warning, the following is kinda graphic* right next to my balls in that really soft area. It was so painful to get out that we had to go to the doctor and all they did was try to get it out with tweezers and at first all they could get was the head of it (no pun intended). Imagine some nurse digging around your groin with tweezers. I still have a scar to remind me everyday of how much I hate ticks and shitty nurses.

yeah for some reason this year is worse than ive ever seen it, i live in the suburbs, and ive found 4 ticks on my dog already, and my g.f and i just gt a puppy, and we have found 2 on her already, and i caddy over the summer, and ive never found so many before either, its weird
