Ticket, court or no?

Ok I was driving along and got pulled over for speeding, the cop said that I was going 82, and I was in a 55. Also my insurance card was old, and past the expiration date, however I did have insurance, I just had forgetten to switch the old card and the new one. She wrote the ticket and said I was going 79 instead of 82, so it would be a lesser charge/fine, and she didn't write anything about the insurance. The ticket was for $135. I can either pay the money or go into court and try to get it reduced or dropped. But she said if I went to court she would tell the judge I was going 82, and that I didn't have proof of insurance. The insurance thing isn't a big deal because I can prove that i had it. Can the cop even say I was going that fast if she didn't write the ticket for that speed? What should I do?

Pay the damn ticket, feel lucky she didn't ticket you for the speed you were really going.

whats on the ticket is what the court will look at. the cop cannot just change her story like that.

...Now I just can't shut you up, shut you up

So now I have to chop you up, chop you up

And I'll just wait till I get caught...

just pay the ticket man. if that cop pulls you over again she definitely wont take it easy on you if you make her go to court and make her do a ton of work.

I got pulled over once for now seatbelt, me and mypassenger were both given $115(can) tickets, took it to court, cop didn't show, chrages were dropped.

yea a lot of the time the cop does not even show up, which will get the charges dropped most likely. you dont have anything to lose if you go to court..its worth a try i say.

...Now I just can't shut you up, shut you up

So now I have to chop you up, chop you up

And I'll just wait till I get caught...

definately go to court. i got a ticket for driving with no license and no insurance, they both had huge fines and horrible things that could happen. i had both, just not with me. when i went to court, i brought my license and insurance. the da called me in, and asked if i had them. he looked at them for a minute and then put a big x through his records and told me i could go. no fines or jail time.

Yeah she can't change her story. But then again 135 aint bad....

If it were me I'd go to court

We'll have you dead pretty soon.

Yeah, if she tried to say 82 after writing down 79 then she's being a bad cop. Also, she threatened you by telling you that it would be worse if you took her to court.

well see it's a little more complicated than just the money, it's a 6 point ticket, and yesterday I got a ticket for failing to make a complete stop at a stop sign, and that's a 4 point ticket,I think I can get it reduced, but once I get 9 total points my license gets taken away. So I need to take every possible step to stop that from happening. what I'm trying to figure out is if she can arguee a different speed than whats on the ticket.

not to mention every point jacks your insurance through the damn roof

go to court and ask for the school thing. it doesnt add points to your record and i dont think you have to pay.

I don't doubt this, because he asked me if i wanted to come over to his house and gerbil. I insisted that he come over to MY house, since the whole thing seemed weird. no, the judge wont. If the cop opens her mouth about how fast you were ACTUALLY going, then she's fucked for misconduct.

I have past speeding experience. I was doing 96 in a 65 (31 over). Would have been a 6 point and 191.50 USD fine. My parents pay my insurance so they finally decided to get a lawyer so that the insurance wouldn't go up as much. We paid 400$ in lawyer fees with seems a ton, more than double the fine! But if you get a good lawyer there is a good chance that they will know your cop and could be friends with them and work it down very easily. Lawyers can find all the technical little shit that can get you out of the ticket. E.G. if the cop isn't wearing their hat then the ticket is void.

I got my ticket reduced to 3 points and 76 mph, you should take a shot. Even though the cop was nice, maybe a lawyer can talk it out with them and explain that you got another ticket, you'll lose your license and you need to work or something.

DAs do not always side with the cop. The DA in my town ALWAYS sides with the 'criminal'. A chick I know was doing 90 in a 50 and the DA let her off and just gave her a slap on the wrist.

TAKE IT TO COURT!

Join me in Whistler from June 20-26... it's gonna kick! :)

My brother was going 75 in a 65 or something like that. And the cop pulled him over at night. So obviously he was probably a night shift cop and wouldn't wanna show up for some punk ass kid at court during the day. Well my brother decides to go to court so he can get driving priveleges for work at least (it was his second offense). So he gets there and the judge tells him basically he has no case, the cop ticketed him or whatever and he was there. So then he explained he was just trying to get driving priveleges. Well... the cop left the room, came back and said he could go, everything was dropped. The prosecutor actually had tried to fool my brother saying the cop was there. Apparently that must be allowed. So yea, a lot of the times the cop doesn't wanna show up. But if you do show up, and you get fine, you'll also get court costs.

my mother worked for a pair of lawyers that specialized in traffic offenses. Yes they can go in to court and tell the judge they reduced the speed to give you a break with no repercussions. Police are aloud to use there judgement and help you out, but also are there for the public's safety. You have the choice of going to court but you also have the choice of being responsible for your actions and paying the fine and not driving like a bat out a hell. News flash for all that drive like complete idiots on the rode, you don't own the rode and somebody on the rode with you might just be coming home to their beautiful children and lovely wife from a hard days work. Please folks drive with sense I want to die an old man not in some bloody mess on the freeway cause miss junior driver is in a hurry to go shopping or some stupid shit.

You broke the law.... Not once, hahaha, but twice.... You're obviously a threat to society, and need to be locked up, for at least a month or two...

But seriously, you speed, you face the consequences. It was nice of her to let you off... Where are you from? In Canada, we have the option to go to the Justice of the Peace and make up some excuses to reduce our tickets...

You can always go to court and plead guilty to a lesser charge. That way you get a smaller fine and less points.

one time i was asleep in the back of a car and my friend got pulled over and the cop woke me up and gave me a ticket for no seatbelt...which was more money than the kids speeding ticket....i should have gone to court just to see what happened...but i didnt want to drive up to that town i was in...so I didnt

ususally if you go to court on it the cops never show so just give it a try, most likely you'll get off of it and as for the new seatbelt law... bullshit thats your choice, the amount of the fine is bullshit too.
