oh yeah, if you put your pole straps on the right way, that can decrease risk of thumb injury considerably. you have to put your hand through the strap from underneath and then grip the pole, so if you fall or let go of your pole it just drops and doesn't catch your thumb liek it would if you put your hand through the strap from the top. They told us to do it this way in ski instructor training. Idk if you use the strap, or if you even use poles, but that will help if you do.
