I fell on my wrist on an icy parking lot the otehr day after a small bomb drop and it now hurts to move my thumb too much. also a while back I fell off a box and hurt my thumb so I couldn't move it.

oh yeah, if you put your pole straps on the right way, that can decrease risk of thumb injury considerably. you have to put your hand through the strap from underneath and then grip the pole, so if you fall or let go of your pole it just drops and doesn't catch your thumb liek it would if you put your hand through the strap from the top. They told us to do it this way in ski instructor training. Idk if you use the strap, or if you even use poles, but that will help if you do.

The guy who said about doing the straps that way is right. You can have them loose like that but still have the grip feel secure and if you fall it's all good. You can just drop your poles easily too and have them dangle. I used to do them with my hand going down through the loop and tighten the strap. The I fell one day and tore my UCL. And when I got it checked out I found out I'd dislocated it too and chipped ab one. Then when I got it check up 6 weeks later they x-rayed my "good" thumb as a reference and it turns out I had a chipped bone in there too from earlier in the winter.

Anyway, for protection I now wear a splint on the thumb that had the ligament tear that a physio made for me. It was made from a sheet of thermoplastic moulded around me so it's a perfect fit, nice and slim for under my glove and still strong. It feels really secure. I wouldn't bother with anything off the shelf.

level makes a clove that protects your wrist if you too that out and used some tape you could probaby brace it

another one is here.... it said in the description it helped with "skiers thumb" which sounds like somethin u might want...

my brothers thumb is permanently displaced from skiing. he likes to call it skiers thumb b/c it seems this happens to many people.

i have a broken thumb and i got a splint made to fit into a glove and grab a pole. go see a hand therapist they should hook you up.

ive torn my ligaments SIX times :( i hate it i just dont ski with poles anymore. oh and you can tape your thumb well enough and it'll be safe i do that for rugby.

i almost always have a broken thumb or torn liagment, so now i just bought a really good brace and i wear it over my gloves whenever i go skiing and it seems to have fixed my problem so far (p.s. i have a broken thumb right now so trust me on this one...)

ive torn ligaments in both my thumbs. the easiest way to prevent them is not to ware your pole straps.

okey i see i am not the only one with thumb problems and i think the best is to tape your thumbs to wear a splint under the glove...

I always hurt my thumb every season not seriously though. its never from my poles though I usually land wrong or slam my hand into my boot or something.
