I bent my thumb back skiing, i didn't brake it, just sprained it i think. Anyway i can't hold a pole very well and i was wondering how to make it heal as fast as possible.

Thats nucking futs!

The same thing happened to me but it bent straight to the side away from the rest of my fingers. The doctor said that it's pulled tendons and there is really nothing you can do. It just takes time to heal.

hot then cold!!!!

hot water for 15 mins, ice pack for 15 mins...

repeat until satisfiiiiiiiied! - it works by relaxing and loosening the muscle when warm- then tightening it back in the right proportions (which are put out of porportion when you sprain a thumb) when cold...

I landed switch on ice (literally, not hardpack) and fell a couple days ago and pulled a back/hip muscle, any tips for that? It's healing on its own, but I want a shortcut.

what ever u do dont heat it just ice in reps of 15 min on 15 off repeat the process twice then take advil every 4 hours for a DAY keep icing it for a couple of days then tape it the next time u go skiing

NOPE completely shite advice as cooling it in early stages without heating it first ONLY lends to TIGHTEN the muscle/tissue, which is exactly what you DO NOT want to do, as that is the problem with sprains, etc. - tightening...

this is a common misconception of simply icing it because it DOES eliminate the pain and swelling in the SHORT RUN, but in the LONG RUN the injury takes far longer to heal due to the increased damage to the tissue.

SO IGNORE HIM^^^!!!!

yeah next time you go skiing tape that beast. also, try to let go of your poles when you fall. sounds dumb but it will save you

It doesn't sound like a muscle injury though. It sounds like a strained/pulled tendon or ligament.

icing helps heal a strain/sprain by constricting blood vessels and minimizing hemmoraging by platelets, reducing swelling and shortening time ur out- dont know about heat though

^but can actually reduce the range of motion. Especially if ligament/tendons/muscles are involved, you need to move it during the healing process.

Heat also works to speed up healing by bringing more blood to the affected area, thus helping speed up the healing.
