Thule for a subaru

I keep flying back and forth across the country. I want to start driving now cause planes(southwest) are starting to scare me. I have a 2001 subaru impreza and i want to put racks on my car so I will have more room inside my car. But i know nothing about racks. Any suggestions from subaru kids?

minus the roof of a plane flying off which just lead to a look at all their other planes and major issues were found with a big majority. but you are right, as of now they will be the safest because they will be watched the closest.

Get a ski box, dont know how you call it, but in a box you can put a lot more than just ski's..so more space inside your car.. + your ski's wont get dirty

Yeah, last time it happened it sucked a flight attendant out. Other airlines have tons of Boeing 737's. It just happened to be a southwest flight. Could have been US Air, Continental, etc

which leads to my point about driving instead of flying. they all sketch me out now. but southwest especailly cause i was on a southwest flight the same day that happened... I love southwest as a company though. Its in their mission to care more about their employee then the customer which is a very rare trait to see in such a large corporation. Pretty cool to a business major i guess.

All I want to say is:

Look at the percentage chance you have being hurt in an airplane accident versus and auto accident, it will astonish you.

Also - consider the opportunity cost of driving as oppose to flying.

Sparknotes: Flying > Everything

if the plane would have had a thule rack and a front fairing it would have deflected the windstream around the area which eventually came free from the plane

ALANNA, just do the smart thing and buy a box, so you canput your skis, but also other stuff like food and coolers that you won't have to put in your subaru

Driving will cost so much more just in gas. Plus, it's slower and can be boring. Stick to flying. My dad was flying the same day 9/11 happened and he still flies, it's honestly nothing to worry about.

yeah think thats what i might do. Im going to see what your brother thinks today. You should come up and visit us again. The river is still open for a couple weeks and then im moving to north conway or jackson so you guys will have to do tuckermans with me.

If you want to get a rack for your car for practicality and to make road trips, then that is great. It can be really fun. But if you are doing it to avoid flying with the true intention that flying will kill you, that is quite silly. Irrational fears are just going to exhaust you.

You do realize that because of what happened at Southwest the government is now forcing everyone to inspect that area on planes too. And this has happened before and people got sucked out

sorry for trying to help. I meant what kind of impreza. There are like 3 or 4 varations of a 2001 impreza, some of them are much nicer to set up with racks than others. I know this because I worked at a roof rack shop for 6 summers

The biggest problem is that the area that they had an issue with literally runs the length of the entire plane. They're worried because 737's aren't exactly a new plane, and a fuselage expands and contracts with the pressure changes between the ground and cruising elevation.
