Throwdown 19/20

Looks like the season is right around the corner!

Per the usual... post up some new tricks that you learned, park set ups that you're having a blast on, events going on, or anything relevant!

No announcements yet but I think the Spirit Mtn rail jam is Oct 19th and Giants Ridge usually does one the following Saturday. The fall colors are already starting up here, signaling an early winter if you're optimistic. Then again it could be 70 for week in November. Either way, hyped to get back on skis!

also drew i had a two year streak for creating the daily throwdown thread, how dare you take that away from me

Giant's ridge rail jam confirmed for this Saturday (19th) noon-3.

Checked Spirit's calendar and nothing official yet but gonna assume it will be during the swap as usual which will be the following Saturday (26th).

Stoked.

I'll be attending both, but torn over biking at giants over the rail jam with their 3 new trails compared to the only 2 I've experienced last time I biked there...

baby allen lam in the making over here

First day of shredding update:

Wild was packed, but some decent rails were set up and mellow tricks were landed. Troll and Wild this weekend!

This just in - Mont Du Lac is opening tonight 4-8pm with free lift tickets. Sounds like from their FB page they will be open this weekend also.

Spit rope opened this weekend. Got a solid 12 hours in, super fun. Did my first opening day invert so that’s hype.

Joel did a cork 7 stale on his first day though so my claim doesn’t mean anything...

Just remember, Joel is a cheat code. Since he's not on here, did he get a pass to Spit?

12 hours ?!?!? I bet you were tired the next day. I was dead after 5 hours on Saturday at Troll.

Breakdown: 2hr Thurs, 5hr Fri/Sat.

Had some homies trying to get me out Sunday too but the skiing muscles ain’t ready yet. Literally couldn’t get out of bed for a couple hours Sunday. Feeling great today but gotta wait til Friday for the next shred.

Elm is just my favorite hill ever, I learn something new there every time I go, I finally got down unatty slides which is the most bizarre gap in my skiing knowledge.

Pretty much did the same at spirit the other day, really never took the time to work on them before.

Hoping to hit up elm while I'm down in the cities over new year's, heard lots of good things about their setups.

it’s real solid, the weather lately totally froze the snow so I’m thinking we might see a park overhaul soon, just would be easier than banking on new snow.

I'm flipping out over spirit's big jump line... it's beautiful.

Jump 3 gets a 9.3/10 which is extremely high on my scale.

I guess I learned rodeo 5 mute on jump 3, nearly identical to the safety grab I usually do but it feels twice as good. Never really tried that grab on that trick before.

Medium jump line went in at spirit, haven't hit it yet but looks very nice.

Rest in peace spirit big jumps with this rain :((

Also took a major L yesterday switch carving an icy run, caught an edge and got whiplashed straight to my back at 40+ mph. Thank you edgeless Nomads... Can't really move my neck right now... Need a gofundme for new skis and ibuprofen...

I discovered by accident that como park has a ski hill on their golf course.

I just discovered that also last Sunday. I went cross country skiing since I live like 5 miles away from there. they had 4 features set up. I was surprised.

I’m going up to Duluth to see a friend, Im gonna check it out when I get back for science.

One epic claim I got from a few days ago is: first try, perfect left front 6 off of spirit's fat tube. I stomped the living urine out of it. Yes Drew, I know that's an 'easier' trick for midwest rail bois but it meant a lot to me because I haven't landed one in two years after trying quite a few times. To lace one up first try felt truly incredible.

Went for the right front 6 next hit but only got 540 around :/ only a nerd under-rotates their front 6s.

Oh yeah forgot to mention I'm coaching freestyle up at Spirit this year, been a blast so far! You get vicariously stoked whenever someone learns something. Plus there's a grom on our team who's still in elementary school but he got both way 5s and both way rail slides. Watch out nybora kids...

Rode at Elm Creek new years eve, place was packed but park was tight. Landings got rutted and icy pretty quick but probably hit more features per minute than I ever have in my life - perks of a tiny hill with dual tow ropes!

On another note, as I was getting my day pass there was a chick ahead of me in line - decked out in fresh gear and tons of Redbull gear; Beanie, helmet, boot bag. Figured anyone sporting that much Redbull gear must be actually sponsored or just a huge fannboy(fangirl).

Tuns out it was probably the former. She could shred.

Saw her a bit later in the park on a pair of new faction skis and saw her consistently do 5050s down a fdf, both sw tails and sw lip onto a down tube, and front and blind 2s. Wasn't able to figure out who she is though.

You probably saw Mathilde Gremaud. She's been in town -also hit Hyland and Troll. I unfortunately didn't get to see her in person just videos on Ig. I would have absolutely loved seeing her as I could use that female shred inspiration.

Spirit big jumps are still cash money after the rain, there's a cannon rail off the showtime knuckle. One thing led to another and I went back 8 lol.

Spirit jumps are still firing, they aren't quite as kicky as a week before but I don't mind. Sent my first cork 7 of the season yesterday, barely squeaked it around.
